HYOP AS HYOP AS is an independent company dedicated to bring hydrogen fuel to the market HYOPs mission is to own and operate hydrogen refuelling stations and hydrogen production facilities HYOP shall be a tool for implementing hydrogen fuel in the transport segment Signing the take over from Statoil May 8, 2012
The HYOP station network Three hydrogen stations in operation in Eastern Norway Porsgrunn In operation since 2007 Capacity 130 kg/day 350 bar car/bus 700 bar autumn 2012 Drammen In operation since 2009 Capacity 20 kg/day 350 bar 700 bar Oslo In operation since 2009 Capacity 20 kg/day 350 bar 700 bar
The HYOP station network HYOP will plan for the expansion of the fuelling network in Norway Plans are being made for expansion of the station network in cooperation with roll-out of fuel-cell cars from the car industry MoU signed with Hyundai 15/5-12 MoU signed with Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan and Honda 9/10-12
Hydrogen for transport in Norway Six stations in operation Five for cars and one for buses Technology has functioned well Up-time > 95 % But the stations are vulnerable for technical faults Not intended to have 100 % up-time due to cost A fleet of 21 cars 15 cars was recently taken out after five years service Current capacity is more than needed for the cars Five buses in operation in Oslo CHIC project
Current hydrogen station network Oslo Gaustad Drammen Lillestrøm Oslo - Økern Oslo - bus Porsgrunn
Moving on From Demonstration to Pre-commercial market Build a network that gives the car users a similar driving pattern as they are used to The network of stations to be defined Exact location and capacity A certain number of cars needed A viable business model must be developed during the precommercial phase
Hydrogen cars The market introduction should be planning for Hydrogen FCEV in daily use When will the cars come? What will decide the speed of introduction of the cars? Where will they be sold? How will they be used? Fleets, Taxis, Private use? What will be the criteria for choosing a hydrogen car? Fuel demand?
Next phase - stations To fuel the cars we need stations Locations must be co-ordinated with car-industry based on the planned roll-out of cars Co-ordination gives the best business case for all Developing in regions will be most economical Demand can change locations of stations Can delay commercial business model if network is too much spread out in this phase
Requirements for the stations Start building the permanent infrastructure Demo type of stations can no longer do the job R&D stations will be a side track, but still important Robustness and reliability are key drivers The stations must deliver 24/7 The customer must always be able to get some hydrogen The stations must be built to minimize hydrogen cost Dispensing capacity must aim for high volumes 1000 kg or 2000 kg per day Stations can be built stepwise as modular design
Production of hydrogen In Norway there will be enough renewable power available to produce all hydrogen needed for road transport Possible to obtain Zero emission from Well to Wheel On-site production is the preferred solution Trucked-in will be an option on all stations Regional production centres Trucking hydrogen to stations Back-up for maintenance and production outages
Expansion of hydrogen station network Build foundations for the large stations in the Oslo area Creating robustness Expanding driving range with highway locations Focus area
Conclusions A new type of company has been formed Dedicated to bring hydrogen fuel to the market Broad co-operation needed to succeed Car industry, infrastructure and governments The new stations must be capable of delivering large volumes of hydrogen Norway will be able to use renewable power for all hydrogen fuel production
