Product safety. > CNG is as safe as conventional fuels because: >> In the event of a spill, lighter-than-air CNG will dissipate into the atmosphere. >> CNG fuel cylinders are much thicker and stronger than diesel or petrol tanks, and are industry tested and built to withstand severe impact, temperature and environmental exposure. >> Less fire risk. CNG is a readily available fuel source that s made by compressing Natural Gas to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. It s a viable alternative because: > CNG consists typically of gas from the network, or delivered by the network, and is odourless and noncorrosive. > CNG can reduce life cycle (well to wheel) CO 2 vehicle fleet emissions by up to 20% compared to diesel and dissipates into the atmosphere if there is a spill. > It is a viable alternative to other high priced fuels. > CNG is not LPG. Many leading Australian Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) support natural gas as an alternative fuel through the availability of back-tobase, purpose-built CNG vehicles. Fuel security. > CNG is an Australian fuel supply, locally sourced and independent from international energy suppliers. In Australia natural gas is abundant. > If overseas petrol or diesel supply is interrupted, CNG supply may not be affected. Proven. > CNG vehicle technology is proven, with a large variety of purpose built vehicles available. Compressed or liquefi ed? CNG is more commonly used and suited for back to base solutions, small to medium and some heavy duty applications, such as buses. As the name suggests, natural gas is compressed and dispensed into the vehicle in a compressed form. LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is suited for heavy-duty, long-distance vehicles. While CNG vehicle performance is similar to their diesel equivalents, CNG also provides additional savings to fleet operators due to their cleaner fuel operation. A proven market internationally. CNG has been available in Europe for more than 30 years. In the USA, CNG is an accepted alternative fuel. It can provide up to 40% lower fuel costs and some transport operators are now opting for CNG over diesel. The global trend is toward natural gas as a fuel source, and Australia is following suit. It is believed there are in excess of 3,000 Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs) in Australia, mostly buses. This is a very small proportion of the global NGV fleet which is in excess of 14 million. 6 7

In Australia it aims to establish CNG as a long-term viable and widely available fuel for commercial customers. > CNG provides the market with an alternative transport fuel source in Australia. > Increasingly CNG is becoming a popular fuel for commercial vehicles, given the potential operational savings it provides, compared to diesel, petrol and LPG. > AGL is looking to develop the CNG infrastructure in Australia, starting with public refuelling stations in Victoria, and expanding nationally. > Proposed stations will be located in key areas that enable fleets to fill without changing their location routes; AGL will also work with fleet operators to meet their needs. > CNG will provide transport operators with a lower operating cost fuel. > AGL can fix the fuel price at public refuelling sites. > Vehicle performance will match or be similar to that of traditionally fuelled vehicles. > Major OEMs such as Isuzu, Iveco and Mercedes already have CNG vehicles available in Australia for fleet owners and operators to use. How AGL has managed the challenges of CNG. Will there be AGL Smart CNG public refuelling outlets in convenient locations? AGL s strategy is to increase its refuelling infrastructure on Australia s east coast, starting in Melbourne, and expanding nationally. AGL will work with customers to deliver refuelling stations that are convenient to their businesses. Do OEMs have available vehicles to meet operator requirements? OEMs including Iveco, Isuzu and Mercedes currently have a range of CNG vehicles available in Australia. They have indicated other mid-range vehicles will become available in the near future. OEMs are now reviewing their products to market given there is foreseeable growth in the infrastructure. Will the additional vehicle weight from CNG trucks alter my payload? Where there is a loss of payload, this may be off-set by the fuel price savings. In addition, AGL and industry groups are working with governments to follow international precedents which allow fleet operators alternative measures/concessions to accommodate the natural gas fuel tanks. What is the future of natural gas? Queensland LNG exports commence this year. This increased demand is driving up natural gas prices, but gas still has a strong future. It is home grown, and provides long term fuel security. Importantly, in comparison to diesel, CNG is cost effective, cleaner and proven. QLD: Gas demand for LNG exports will increase dramatically over the next few years. Contract gas prices have already increased. NSW: Government policy is making it difficult to develop local gas supplies for NSW. Interstate gas supply contracts start falling away in Contract gas prices are likely to increase after this date. VIC: Gas supply contracts are in place until the end of Contract gas prices will probably move up after this date. 8 9

CNG is compressed and stored on site to meet load requirements. This process allows refuelling capacity to be expanded as required. CNG fast fi ll station. NG Utility Main Natural gas advantage for Toll group. Toll Group is Australia s largest provider of transport and logistics, operating more than 2,500 heavy vehicles and 1,500 medium rigid vehicles across the country. Toll began exploring CNG as an alternative fuel option in 2009, and currently has more than 70 pickup and delivery vehicles operating on CNG in its market-leading express road freight business, Toll IPEC. What about excises on natural gas? Won t that make it more expensive? Both CNG and LNG became subject to fuel excises from 1 December These excises will be progressively increased until 2015, when they will be capped at 50% of the excises on petrol and diesel (on an energy equivalence basis). What happens to my vehicle warranty? Speak with your manufacturer however generally; if your natural gas vehicle is purchased from an OEM it will carry the full OEM warranty as with any other fuels. If you convert an existing petrol or diesel engine to natural gas, your converter may either provide a warranty for the vehicle or arrange for the manufacturer to honour the manufacturer s warranty on the converted vehicle. LPG is quite different from natural gas. Natural gas is cost effective and cleaner than LPG, and the properties of the fuels vary significantly. Public stations will have either a swipe card payment system or point of sale interfaces, as well as being equipped to take credit cards. AGL can work with you to integrate you current billing and energy reporting systems. Dispensers. CNG dispensers are similar in appearance to diesel, designed for high flow rates, and capable of fuelling CNG vehicle types such as cars, vans, buses and trucks. Priority Panel Noise.
