2 Teachers Treasures Helping Teachers Help Kids Our missin Teachers Treasures btains and distributes schl supplies free t teachers f students in need. The need Every day at public, private, charter, and parchial schls lcated thrughut Marin Cunty, children f all ages attend class withut the mst basic supplies they need t get a gd educatin. Dedicated teachers are ften willing t pay fr these much needed supplies ut f their wn pckets t make sure the kids in their classrms have the necessary tls t learn. Teachers spend an average f $800 - $1,200 ut f their wn pcket t prvide educatinal materials t their students. Our answer Teachers Treasures, in partnership with lcal businesses, charitable fundatins, neighbrhd rganizatins and individual cntributrs, helps fill this need by perating a vlunteer-based Stre fr Teachers. Dnated educatinal supplies and ther materials are distributed via this unique cnduit t teachers fr the benefit f their students. Eligibility Teachers Treasures prvides classrm materials fr use in public, private, parchial and charter schls, kindergarten thrugh twelfth grade, t schls in Marin Cunty-recgnized by the Indiana Department f Educatin- with 60% r mre f the student ppulatin n the free r reduced Federal lunch prgram. Principals prvide a request t participate, which identifies the eligible individuals in their schl. Only full-time, certified, Pre-K-12 teachers (including art, gym, music), principals/directrs, vice principals, media specialists, scial wrkers, nurses, and guidance cunselrs frm eligible schls may shp. Our stry Teachers Treasures was funded in 2000 by a retired schl principal, Phyllis Imel, wh wished t cntinue helping the at-risk children in the cmmunity succeed in schl. The free stre fr teachers pened in a small unused area in the basement f Washingtn Cmmunity Schl n the near Westside. A dedicated staff f vlunteers began seeking prduct and financial cntributins which culd be used t prvide teachers with the educatinal supplies and materials needed by the children in their classrms. As awareness and interest grew thrughut the educatinal and business cmmunities, s did the need fr mre rm. This need was met by Krger, wh leased a frmer stre at 1800 East Tenth Street t the rganizatin fr $1 a year. In September 2007, Teachers Treasures pened a new lcatin almst three times larger than the riginal space. 2

4 Teachers Treasures Registratin Fee Guidelines 1. Eligible individuals frm qualifying schls must pay an annual registratin fee t take advantage f Teachers Treasures resurces. 2. The annual fee is $25.00 per persn if paid n r befre September 1 st, after September 1 st the fee is $35.00 per persn. The supply fee is nt prrated the fee is the same whether an individual signs up in September, January r April. 3. I.D. MUST be presented fr the mnthly shpping trip. 4. Registratin, even if paid by the schl crpratin, schl, PTO r similar schl sanctined rganizatin is fr the individual teacher specified n the registratin frm and cannt be transferred t anther teacher. 5. We will accept cash, checks (payable t Teachers Treasures) and debit/credit cards. If the check is returned fr insufficient funds r the debit/credit card is refused, an additinal fee f $25.00 will be assessed.. 6. An individual may find a spnsr t underwrite the cst f the registratin fee. 7. The registratin fee is NOT a tax-deductible cntributin. 8. Individuals cntracted t teach summer schl classes may shp in May in preparatin fr summer schl. We are nt pened fr shpping in June. 9. Registratin fees are nt refundable. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 1. Wh is Eligible: Only full-time, certified, Pre-K -12 teachers (including art, gym, music), principals/directrs, vice principals, media specialists, scial wrkers, nurses, and guidance cunselrs frm eligible schls may shp 2. Shpping privileges will be revked frm anyne fund ineligible. N refund will be issued. Individuals (Title I, Literacy, ESL, etc.) wh serve multiple schls will shp nce a mnth with their hme schl. 3. The items prvided by Teachers Treasures are fr use in the classrm and fr prjects that enable students t participate in learning activities. Any participants wh are discvered t be using items fr persnal use by themselves, their family r ther rganizatins, will have their shpping privileges revked. The registratin fee will nt be refunded. 4. Never resell r trade merchandise t any public r private cmpany, r individual. 5. Teachers Treasures is nt respnsible fr determining the apprpriateness f materials fr yur students r classrm. All items in the stre are available n a first cme, first served, and as is basis. N warranty regarding serviceability is prvided. Teachers Treasures makes every effrt t assure items in the stre are in wrking rder hwever defective r nne wrking items cannt be replaced r exchanged. 4

5 6. Eligible individuals may shp Mnday Thursday f their assigned week during regular shpping hurs r the ne Saturday each mnth Teachers Treasures is pen. Shp trips cannt be carried ver mnth t mnth. If yu are nt able t shp in a given mnth, cntact yur schl s liaisn t request they pick up items fr yu. Bring yur Schl ID fr each f yur visits! 7. It is permissible t bring a cmpanin fr assistance nly if yu are sight impaired r require medicallycmparable assistance. Fr reasns f liability, ther individuals such as classrm aids r student teachers, are nt allwed t shp with yu. N children r shpping cmpanins are allwed t be in the stre during shpping hurs. 8. Yu may fill ne shpping cart during each visit. Please feel free t recycle by bringing bags r cntainers with yu. 9. ITEM LIMITS - The quantity available f each item depends n ur inventry. If yu have a special prject and need mre than the limit allwed, please see a staff member. We are always happy t help if it within ur capabilities and fair t ther teachers. 10. Items btained thrugh Teachers Treasures may be used fr schl activities such as Hmecming, Carnival, Prm, etc. 11. Large items Fr safety and liability reasns Teachers Treasures staff and/r vlunteers cannt assist in remving large items frm the building r assist with lading these items int yur vehicle. Fr yur cnvenience a hand truck is available t help with remval. Any large items reserved during yur shpping trip must be remved by the next business day. Pick up hurs are: Mnday thrugh Thursday 8:00 AM 5:30 PM and Friday 8:00 AM 3:30 PM. Any unclaimed items will be made available t ther shppers. EXTRA SHOPPING TRIPS 1. TEACHER LIAISONS - Each qualified schl r prgram is asked each year t appint ne f their individuals as the Teacher Liaisn (TL) with whm we can cmmunicate directly. The TL will receive ne extra shpping trip per mnth prvided they meet the fllwing requirements: a) Ensure the principal prvides a list f eligible individuals t Teachers Treasures by Octber 1 st. b) Cmplete ne prmtinal activity per mnth, such as an , flyer, r scial media pst which invlves: Sharing infrmatin abut Teachers Treasures with c-wrkers and encuraging eligible individuals t shp r vlunteer. c) Prvide, nce per semester, ne f the fllwing: a pster thank yu frm a class, a grup r individual thank yu letters frm a class. Highly encuraged: Psting pictures f students/classrms using items frm Teachers Treasures r prjects made with materials acquired frm the stre n Teachers Treasures Facebk page. Suggestin: Pst a picture f students hlding a Thank Yu pster that includes: Schl name, grade, and teacher s name. d) Shuld a Teacher Liaisn fail t meet the abve requirements, the additinal shpping privilege will be revked. 5

6 2. The VOLUNTEER TO SHOP PROGRAM prvides teachers with the pprtunity t earn additinal shpping trips t supply their classrms. It is als a way fr Teachers Treasures t build lasting relatinships that may nt be pssible n busy shpping days AND t intrduce teachers frm ineligible schls t Teachers Treasures.
