3 Here we go again! The Amazing People Gala Committee is proud to invite you to participate in one of the most exciting and inspirational events of the year in Ottawa. The two previous galas have moved people to tears and seen people dance until after midnight. We celebrate incredible people and our unique community. We have experienced great joy and felt sadness and sacrifice. Together we have raised $150,000 to help Ottawa young people learn their power in the world. We offer scholarships for them to travel internationally to build schools in Nicaragua or support education in Kenya. In 2015, we are planning to raise another $150,000. We like to aim high! The money will be spent doing incredible work in Nicaragua and Kenya where we are already changing lives. We have participated in building four schools in Nicaragua, as well as a The Amazing People Resource Centre in Asembo Bay, Kenya. That story was on CTV s W5 and is up for a CSA (Gemini) Award. Also this year, in addition to SchoolBOX and Hera Mission, we have added Project North, Ryan s Well and Miracle League to our charities. We are supporting education, clean water, healthy living and accessibility. More than 550 people will be in attendance. About 50 people, who have been honoured on CTV s Amazing People series, will be on hand. Also, some of Ottawa s most influential leaders will be there, as our award judges have included the Ottawa Mayor, MPPs, Cabinet Ministers, community leaders, and business executives. What we believe we offer to our partners and sponsors is coverage, contacts and community. 5 SchoolBOX & Hera Mission Your sponsorship helps to pay for the facility, staging and collateral materials essential to hosting this incredible gala so the funds raised can focus on supporting worthy projects for SchoolBOX and Hera Mission. In addition, communities in the Ottawa region will be challenged and empowered to fundraise and potentially participate in SchoolBOX and Hera Mission endeavours. Through the sponsored scholarship program, six local youth received gala scholarships in This afforded them opportunity to participate in a life-changing experience on a SchoolBOX volunteer build trip helping to build a gala classroom. Not only did they grow as students and people, their impact continues to be felt throughout their communities. SchoolBOX, a registered Canadian charity, is committed to supporting the right of every child to a basic education. More than 51% of children in Nicaragua do not complete grade five. Many children live with single parents, and there is always pressure for children to work instead of getting a primary education. Learning under a tent in the scorching sun without proper school supplies does nothing to motivate children to learn either. A new school instills a sense of pride in the community and motivates children to stay in school. 4 gala schools have now been made possible with hundreds of children empowered and 4 communities forever changed. Every child has dreams and an education gives them the skills and confidence to realize them. The HERA Mission of Canada has been working with women leaders in a village called Asembo Bay in Western Kenya since It was after a life changing trip to Kenya where Co-founder Peggy Taillon became a mother after a 15 month battle to bring her son Devlin home to Canada. HERA is his middle name and means love in his tribal language of Luo.Our women leaders have implemented a number of programs to respond to the needs of over 300 orphans and 100s of widows, grandmas and great grandmas. HERA Mission has raised over $100, with our fund-raising dollars focusing on creating child sponsorship for education, agricultural program, building community infrastructure and women led businesses. This year HERA is launching a youth to youth volunteer program and partnering with World Expedition s HUMA Challenge to establish and volunteer tourism program with their village and other breathtaking locales in Kenya.
