2 WELCOME TO THE Y. For over 150 years, the Y has served communities in Metropolitan Detroit, creating opportunities where children and families can grow. While our programs and facilities are always based on the unique needs and interests of our communities, every Y has one thing in common: our people. The volunteers, staff, members and donors of the Y are all united by a deep commitment to strengthening the community. Our Cause Defines Us We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Our Areas of Focus The Y is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, for healthy living and for social responsibility. That s because a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. Youth Development - Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. Healthy Living - Improving our community s health and well-being. Social Responsibility - Giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Our Impact is Felt Every Day With a mission based on Judeo-Christian principles, the Y is dedicated to putting its principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a volunteer mentor inspires a child, when a community comes together for the common good. We re Here for Everyone The Y offers affordable programs and services designed to benefit people of all incomes and backgrounds. Fees are based on the actual costs to provide each program. The Y uses contributed funds from the scholarship assistance program to ensure those unable to pay the stated fees are able to participate. If fees are a concern, please inquire at the courtesy counter for a scholarship application form. All records and inquiries are kept confidential and the form is simple to complete.
