2 The 1 st Annual Perioperative Surgical Home Summit provides a comprehensive understanding of the conceptual framework for this care model as well as practical techniques for implementing this innovative model at your institution. The Perioperative Surgical Home is a multi-departmental initiative aimed at transforming surgical care by improving quality, lowering costs and increasing patient and provider satisfaction. Through lectures, panel discussion and open format roundtable discussions, the 1 st Annual Perioperative Surgical Home Summit promises to be an excellent, real-world learning experience. OBJECTIVES At the conclusion, the participants should be able to: Describe the concepts of the Perioperative Surgical Home model. Define the full scope and major operational elements of a prototypic comprehensive Perioperative Surgical Home model. Outline how the Perioperative Surgical Home can meet increasing consumer and payer emphasis on shared decision-making, patient-centeredness, and patient satisfaction. Describe how the Perioperative Surgical Home fits with national healthcare goals. Describe the steps to Perioperative Surgical Home implementation in your institution. Define the operational elements of the Perioperative Surgical Home model that will enable improved quality and safety of perioperative care and reduction of hospital readmissions of surgical patients. Recognize changing payment methods as they apply to the Perioperative Surgical Home. Assess the Perioperative Surgical Home as a means to succeed in a more competitive and austere economic environment. Identify opportunities to improve coordination of perioperative care. Summarize strategies to optimize patient preparation before surgery and reduce variability in the delivery of intraoperative and postoperative care. Recognize change management techniques.
