(v) Project Description with Process Detail (a schematic diagram/ flow chart showing the project layout, components of the project etc. should be given) A. Regional Geology: The limestone belt of Jaisalmer has a vast tract of over 90 km and is a part of Khuiala formation of lower Eocene age. It is overlained by Shumar formation (Pleistocene to sub recent). The present investigation was restricted to Khuiala formation which comprises hard compact bouldery limestone which is underlain by chalky limestone & it is further underlain by marl, shale and Bentonite clays. Limestone beds are structurally undisturbed and horizontally disposes with gentle rolling dips of 2-4 due N-NW. Theoretically there are no perfectly horizontal beds in nature but here due to undisturbed water conditions of the basin of deposition and tectonic stability, limestone beds are found horizontal or nearly sub- horizontal. On the whole the area is undulating without detectable dips or strike, Messa and butte land from are also noticed containing scree and talus over slopes.

12 Parewar Limestone Mines SN - II with Proposed Limestone Production Capacity of 2.4 MTPA & Overburden 0.85 million m³/annum (M.L. Area ha) near Village Parewar SN-II, Tehsil & District Jaisalmer (Rajasthan). Due to thin soil cover and windblown sand, limestone is exposed intermittently As we know that ground water charged with necessary chemicals seeps along stratification, joints planes, cracks, and other openings in the rocks and slowly dissolved the soluble rock but here due to arid climate limestone is subjected to more mechanical erosion rather than chemical. However certain degree of solution effect was noticed in form of minor solution cavities. DESCRIPITON OF LITHOLOGICAL UNITS: (A) PSEUDO CONGLOMERATIC /IRONSTONE Weathered ironstone is present in the northern portion of the area over mount or hillocks. Weathered stone form thin float over sloping surface and ground iron enrichment. Bacterial activity in iron rich water is believed to be effective in the deposition of ferruginous soluble substances. (B) HARD COMPACT LIMESTONE Exposed is southern and central portion of block as disseminated patches and is intermittently covered by blown sand of 0.50m. thickness. It is bouldary creamish white to pinkish, fine grained, hard and fossiliferous in nature. It contains thickness 2-3 mts and underlain by chalky (Cement grade) limestone of whitish colour. Fossils of Gastropods, Biralves and Foraminifera commonly occur in hard compact limestone. (C) CHALKY LIMESTONE It is white to yellowish white moderately hard to friable limestone of cement grade. It is exposed at the surface only along the natural section and escarpment. Chalky limestone mts thick and contains fossils of Bivalves, Branchiopods, Gastropods. (D) MARL It is yellowish white calcarious mudstone encountered below chalky limestone in some bore holes. It is not exposed on surface. (E) SHALE M/s. Lafarge India Private Limited 8

Area ha) near Village Parewar SN-II, Tehsil & District Jaisalmer (Rajasthan). An argillaceous rock which has a well marked bedding plane fissility primarily due to the orientation of the clay minerals parallel to the bedding planes. Shales are soluble in water and do not form plastic mass when wet. Shales are encountered in the bore holes. (F) BENTONITIC CLAY It is present at the bottom of boreholes on an average of 20m of depth. It has not well developed partings along bedding planes. B. Local Geology: As per the surface exposures and sub surface data available from the bore holes drilled in the area it is observed that the lithological unit in the area varies widely in its contents and nature within the mining lease area. In some parts of the area has the alluvium capping and the upper horizon consists of iron stone as overburden. Below this iron stone is the bentonitic siltstone as overburden. These two litho unites are located in the eastern part of the area. The limestone occurs below these two litho units spread all over the lease area applied for. Thin to thick bands bentonitic clay, bentonitic siltstone, clayey limestone etc. occur within the cement grade limestone as waste. The general sequence of lithological units in descending order with their thicknesses found in the area is as given below:- Nil to 3.00m: Alluvium 3.00 to 8.00m: Iron stone 0.5 to 4.50m: Bentonitic Siltstone and clay 3.00 to 8.00m: Cement grade limestone Nil to 10.00: Bentonitic clay, clayey and chalky limestone etc. occur alternatively or otherwise within the cement grade Bottom: Sandstone M/s.
