1 SELWOOD HOUSING Job Description A Basic Details Department: Location: Reporting to: Finance directorate Head Office Senior Finance Business Partner B Job Summary Jointly with the finance business partners preparation and maintenance of Selwood s monthly management accounts and assisting in the production of the annual financial statements. Provide a high quality support service to decision makers in Selwood Housing by preparing financial data to assist in any decision making process allocated to them. Maintain the financial integrity of Selwood Housing's accounting package including maintenance and development Budget monitoring and assisting with the co-ordination and preparation of budgets, key performance indicators and forecasts. C Specific tasks and responsibilities 1. Accounting a) Jointly with the finance business partners preparation of the monthly management accounts within specified timescales by collating and preparing data for presentation to the Executive, Heads of Service and Board members.

2 b) Responsible for any elements of accounting records as allocated at the time by the senior finance business partner/group head of finance. c) Data mining as required from one or more systems to analyse, review and report on relevant transactional records. d) Jointly with the finance business partners ensure that adequate financial controls are in place and that all control account reconciliations are carried out in a timely manner with discrepancies being investigated and resolved. e) Maintenance of the accounting records and procedures in respect of financial systems and procedures ensuring all systems are accurate and up to date. f) Work with the senior finance business partner in preparing elements of the statutory and annual accounts and assist external auditors with any queries they may have in respect of them. g) Assist internal auditors with any queries that arise during any internal audit review. h) Preparation and submission of the VAT return. 2. Decision making support a) Review and analyse data and prepare ad-hoc reports as required. b) As required make appropriate recommendations and advise of the financial impact on Selwood Housing of alternative courses of action. c) Jointly with the finance business partners establish and maintain profit centre accounts and costing models for Selwood Housing s activities d) Carrying out necessary research, analysing it and presenting conclusions as requested. e) Work with the senior finance business partner identify benchmarking opportunities, preparing and submitting information and presenting outcomes with recommendations.

3 3. Ledger maintenance a) Ensure the nominal ledger system is up to date and accurate at all times by reviewing and updating the nominal codes on a regular basis. 4. Budgets and forecasting a) Work with the finance business partners to prepare the annual budget for all areas of the organisation by preparing schedules, collating data and drawing budgets together, facilitating budget planning meetings with senior management and liaising with budget holders as necessary. b) Work with the finance team manager to review data to set and agree relevant key performance indicators with budget holders. c) Preparation of forecasts for the whole organisation by preparing schedules, collating data and liaising with budget holders. d) Jointly with the finance team manager ensure effective budgetary control by instigating regular budget monitoring meetings with managers. 5. Statistics and returns a) Assist in preparing information for annual returns to the Homes and Communities Agency or any other regulatory body when required. b) Provide information as requested for any other return of a financial nature required to be completed by Selwood Housing. 6. General a) Contribute to the collation and analysis of benchmarking data as required and produce recommendations for change.

4 b) Develop up to date knowledge in legislation regarding housing and accounting. c) Encourage efficiency working within the department, identify and implement any opportunities that arise. d) To attend meetings and working groups as required. e) Contribute to and play an active part in the overall work of the Finance Directorate and Selwood Housing. f) Implement and ensure compliance with Selwood's policies, procedures, codes of practice and initiatives relating to equal opportunities, personal service standards and health and safety. g) Provide the highest quality services incorporating best standards and practice and work to continually improve standards, promoting Selwood Housing to its tenants, clients and those seeking assistance from Selwood Housing. h) Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required by the senior finance business partner, group head of finance or finance director. D Flexibility The post holder will be expected to work a variety of portfolios of work and may be allocated to any of the service portfolios within the Society. No job description can cover every issue which may arise within the post at various times and the post holder is expected to carry out other duties from time to time which are broadly consistent with those in this document. 5 Person Specification Interim Essential Desirable Qualifications Minimum of 5 GCSE or O level Passes to include English and Maths, or equivalent Qualified in a recognised accounting qualification i.e. CIMA, CIPFA, ACCA etc. Qualified by experience will be considered. Experience Experience of working in a Finance environment, working with management accounts, budget setting and treasury management. (Desirable: Experience in supervision of staff) Abilities Ability to analyse, interpret and present facts and figures ensuring consistency and understanding of the bigger picture. Ability to work as part of a team but also able to use initiative and work with limited supervision. Ability to prioritise workloads, set targets, work to deadlines and monitor own performance as well as team performance. Ability to motivate, develop and co-ordinate staff. Ability to act tactfully, with discretion and confidentiality.
