1 Introduction The University of South Wales offers all enrolled students the use of a free personal account which up until now has only been available via Unilife, but can now be accessed using your mobile device. Your account includes a calendar, notes and an address book to organise and store your contacts, and provides more than 30Gb of storage space. Step1/1 - Setting Up Your Windows Computer To use your University on your Windows computer you first need to configure the device to connect to the University servers. As the University student is run by Google, configuring the University system is similar to setting up a Gmail account. The example pictures in the following pages are using Microsoft Outlook 2010 installed on Windows 7, but can be easily configured for use with other devices as long as they support the IMAP protocol, see page 8 for server details. This guide assumes you have Microsoft Office installed on your PC. All enrolled students are eligible for 5 free copies on a variety of platforms, please visit : login.microsoftonline.com, enter your full student address ( @ students.southwales.ac.uk) in the username box, and your current University password in the password box, then click on the Install button in the website, run the downloaded file to install Office 365. 2 On your Windows computer, click on the Start Menu, then Microsoft Office. Click on Microsoft Outlook. 2

3 Microsoft Outlook will now display a setup wizard on screen, click on Next to start. You will now be asked whether you would like to setup/configure an account, select the Yes radio button, and then select Next to continue. 3

Your Name: Enter your name Address: Enter your University address (i.e: students.southwales.ac.uk) Account type: IMAP Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com Username: Enter your University address (i.e: southwales.ac.uk) Password: Enter your current University password. Select More Settings... to continue. Hint Placing a tick in the Remember Password box will allow Outlook to remember your password. 5

Incoming server (IMAP): 993 Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL Outgoing server (STMP): 465 Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL Important Click on the drop-down menu and select SSL before typing in the incoming and outgoing port numbers, the incoming port (IMAP) number will likely change to 993 by default, but the outgoing server (SMTP) will default to port 25, please delete and type in 465. Then select the Outgoing Server tab, and enter the following settings. Place a tick in the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication tickbox. Select the Log on using radio box, enter login details as per screenshot. Select OK to proceed. 6

Select Close to finish, Microsoft Outlook should now open, and display

7 Microsoft Outlook will now attempt to send a test message to confirm the mail server settings have been setup correctly. Select Close to finish, Microsoft Outlook should now open, and display your University . You can now send / receive your University on your Windows computer. 7
