4 SECTION 1: GENERAL INFORMATION Welcome The Business Enterprise Centre (BEC), Faculty of Business at NMIT, Preston campus is offering Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management (On- hired Services) in 2011 in partnership with the Recruiting and Consulting Services Association of Australia and New Zealand (RCSA) and SRM Risk. The program is designed for those who require recognition of current industry knowledge and skills and/or who desire a career in the on -hired recruitment industry. It is suitable for staff responsible for OH&S, those conducting pre placement assessment, branch and operations managers. The Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management (On- hired Services) aims to develop knowledge, understanding and skills regarding compliance to OH&S responsibilities and requirements for those working in the on -hired recruitment industry. 6 Qualification The Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management (On-hired Worker Services) is an NMIT Accredited Program. Upon successful completion of all assessments; participants may apply for Skills Recognition for the units: BSBOHS403B Identify hazards and assess OHS risks BSBOHS404B Contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risk BSBOHS401B Contribute to the implementation of a systematic approach to managing OHS BSBOHS408A Assist with compliance with OHS and other relevant laws The Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management (On-hired Worker Services) accrues the 25 points required to qualify for the Recruitment and Consulting Services Association s (RCSA) Accredited Recruitment Professional status. To attain the Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management (On-hired Worker Services) participants are required to complete all assessments. Pathways After successful completion of Certificate OHS Risk Management (On-hired Worker Services), and application for recognition of competency in the units BSBOHS401B Contribute to the implementation of a systematic approach to managing OHS BSBOHS403B Identify hazards and assess OHS risks BSBOHS404B Contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risk BSBOHS408A Assist with compliance with OHS may undertake participants may pursue further education to obtain the BSB41407 Certificate IV Occupational Health and Safety. BSB41407 Certificate IV Occupational Health and Safety requires the completion of a further 5 units of the nine (9) units of competency packaged as follows: BSBOHS402B Contribute to the implementation of the OHS consultation process BSBOHS405B Contribute to the implementation of emergency procedures or BSBOHS406B Use equipment to conduct workplace monitoring plus 3 Elective units Please refer to BSB07 Business Services Training Package or NMIT for full details of available options. 7 Employability Skills The following information contains a summary of the employability skills for this qualification. The information should be interpreted in conjunction with the detailed requirements of each unit of competency packaged in this qualification. The outcomes described here are broad industry requirements that may vary depending on the packaging options. Employability Skill Industry/enterprise requirements for this qualification include: Communication communicating verbally with clients and colleagues drafting routine correspondence that meets the organisational standards of style, format and accuracy Teamwork working in a team environment to promote team commitment and cooperation Problem solving choosing appropriate methods for communication and transferring information dealing with client enquiries and complaints Initiative and enterprise raising occupational health and safety issues with designated personnel Planning and organising planning and organising own work schedule for the day planning the layout of simple documents using appropriate software Self management dealing sensitively with client needs and cultural, family and individual differences obtaining feedback on work performance and identifying opportunities for improvement Learning encouraging, acknowledging and acting on constructive feedback from team members using manuals, training booklets and online help to overcome difficulties Technology selecting, maintaining and using business technology appropriate to the task This information is a summary of employability skills that are typical of this qualification and should not be interpreted as definitive. 8 Delivery methods The (On-hired Worker Services) is delivered via face to face workshops or flexible /online self paced learning activities. Delivery Timetable 2011 Dates Face to Face Workshops Sydney, Melbourne, Perth & Brisbane March May August November Wednesday 9th & Thursday 10 th Wednesday 4th & Thursday 5 th Wednesday 10 th & Thursday 11 th Wednesday 9th & Thursday 10 th Note: As the Face to Face workshops are conducted dependent on numbers enrolled it is essential that you check with Claudia Gray at the RCSA (details page 4) before booking flights and/or accommodation. Flexible Online Enrolment is available throughout the year. Customised Corporate Workshops BEC, NMIT are able to conduct customised corporate workshops for groups. 9 Texts and Resources All resources for this Program will be supplied by NMIT. The Preston campus Bookshop and Library hours of operation are as follows: Monday Thursday Friday 8.30am 8.00pm 8.00am 5.00pm Workshops As a workshop participant you will be receive a: Program Information booklet (On-hired Worker Services) Resource Guide that contains learning material and activities. NMIT Learning Environment participant login which will provide you with access to the Certificate in OHS Risk Management (On-hired Worker Services) Online Learning Portal that contains additional learning material, activities, discussion boards and templates. Participant Evaluation (to be completed and returned with your assessment). Flexible Online As a flexible-online participant (on enrolment) you will receive a: Program Information booklet (On-hired Worker Services) Resource Guide that contains learning material and activities. NMIT Learning Environment participant login. which will provide you with access to the Certificate in OHS Risk Management (On-hired Worker Services) Online Learning Portal that contains additional learning material, activities, discussion boards and templates. Suggested Timetable with an activity and assessment schedule. Mentor Contact Details Submission Details A mentor following enrolment. The mentor will induct you into the program; introduce you to the online learning environment and provide you with helpful hints to assist you in successfully completing the program. Participant Support Services Libraries NMIT has libraries located at each of its six campuses - Collingwood, Epping, Fairfield, Greensborough, Heidelberg & Preston. The libraries hold a combined total of approximately 100,000 items. Access to electronic resources - full text articles and e-books complement these hard copy and audio-visual materials. Computer access is available using the computers located at all campus libraries. These computers are equipped with Microsoft Office products and Internet Explorer. Printing, photocopying and scanning facilities are also available. Page 9 of 13
10 Participant Counselling Qualified staff are available to discuss issues participants have which may be interfering in their Program. The service is provided free of charge to participants. Services include: Personal and crisis counselling Career and Program advice Group programs on a range of issues Financial advice Referral to a range of community agencies and resources Disability Support Participants with disabilities are not disadvantaged at NMIT. Support is available for participants whose learning is affected by physical, intellectual, sensory, psychiatric or neurological disabilities or chronic medical conditions. This support may include equipment loans, adaptive technology, note takers, tutors, signing interpreters and Program materials provided in alternative formats. Availability of certain support services is subject to funding. Recreation & Activities A fully-equipped gymnasium is located at the Preston Campus. Memberships are available on a term by term basis. Further information can be located at Investment Cost The Investment Cost to complete the (On-hired Worker Services) is $ (all inclusive of resources and materials). Please be aware that if you withdraw from the program, you are required to apply in writing up to and including 5 days prior to the date of commencement. If you re application to withdraw is successful you will be offered a place in : An upcoming Recruit & Select course or Another NMIT course that is aligned with RCSA course including Certificate IV in HR or a workshop class (if enrolled in Flexi program) or a Flexi program (if enrolled in workshop) No refund of any fees paid is possible. 11 ENROLMENT Enrolment Process Step 1 To register and pay for the Certificate in Recruitment and Selection please go the Recruitment and Consulting Services Association (RCSA) website and complete the following steps: Step 2 Workshop Click on the link Select the relevant date Click Next Complete form Click on Pay by credit card complete details and follow prompts to make payment Note: As the face to face workshops run according to numbers it is essential that you check with Claudia Gray at the RCSA (Contact details above) prior to booking flights and/or accommodation. Step 2 Flexi-Delivery Click on the link Select the 1st option: Online Learning Click Next Complete form Click on Pay by credit card complete details and follow prompts to make payment Upon confirmation of registration from the RCSA, NMIT will confirm the Program at least 5 days prior to the scheduled Program commencement. If the nominated workshop is cancelled you will receive a full refund and updates on the next workshop. For further information you can visit the RCSA website: Page 11 of 13
12 SECTION 2: ASSESSMENT Strategy A range of assessment methods will be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. Detailed information regarding assessment projects, criteria, skills recognition and options will be provided to participants at Program commencement. Context of Assessment All assessment activities will relate to a real or a simulated workplace environment. A range of assessment methods are used to assess practical skills and knowledge: direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate evaluation of outcomes and processes from activities managed by the candidate, particularly in relation to how innovation and innovative practice was encouraged and supported oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of ways that innovation can be fostered and the typical challenges and barriers to innovation Allowable Adjustments All evidence gathered will be assessed according to the rules of evidence and the Evidence Checklist for each unit or section of the Program. Assessor of appropriate gender. Cultural issues. Check for age and gender of assessor. Use demonstration - assess knowledge rather than talking. Use video or drawing to demonstrate skills. Draw on candidate s previous experience. Read printed information to the candidate. Build rapport, put the candidate at ease. Page 12 of 13
13 Language Cultural background. Speaking. Reading. Writing. Numeracy. Confidence Check for any cultural issues, events that need addressing. Use interpreter/support person. Use oral questions. Use graphics (pictures) instead of text. Ensure methods are culturally sensitive, especially gender issues. Use video for practical demonstration Plagiarism Plagiarism is copying. It occurs when a candidate copies or reproduces another person s words or ideas, and presents them as their own without proper acknowledgement. This includes: work of others, with or without their knowledge; downloading information from the internet; copying sections from books. Plagiarised work will not be assessed. Privacy Statement NMIT collects personal information from participants at enrolment, during the Program of their studies and when they access other NMIT services. The information that is collected is treated confidentially. Disclosure of relevant information is only made to approved authorities or where the participant gives permission. As part of NMIT Quality procedures, facilitators are required to collect samples of participant work. These samples will be treated confidentially and will only be retained with participant permission SECTION 3: SKILLS RECOGNITION After successful completion of the training and assessment component of the Certificate in OHS Risk Management (On-hired Worker Services), participants may submit their assessment as part of their application for Skills Recognition in: BSBOHS401B Contribute to the implementation of a systematic approach to managing OHS BSBOHS403B Identify hazards and assess OHS risks BSBOHS404B Contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risk BSBOHS408A Assist with compliance with OHS may undertake Skills Recognition is an assessment process for acknowledging previous learning and how this contributes to your current competence. In this application, previous learning can include relevant life and work experience as well as formal education and professional development related to the above units. Page 13 of 13
