Available on Google Play and the App Store, the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon app features Race Day and Expo information, course maps, and the ability to track up to 25 participants live. Located at the Health & Fitness Expo are two stations where you have the chance to write a simple thank you to the volunteers who make the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds possible. 4 Photos This year, the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds will continue to have free, downloadable and searchable high definition photos available for all race participants a few days after the event. Give the photographers time to upload and sort the more than 30,000 photos so it s easier for you to search once they are available. The Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds is proud to offer free photos to all the participants and hope you find several to download, share and enjoy. Bib Timing No more chips! This year, the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds will utilize MyLaps BIBTAG technology for This system does not use a conventional timing chip, but rather an electronic reader strip mounted to the back side of the participants bib. You will notice a metallic strip, surrounded by a foam pad. The foam pad acts as a necessary insulator between the runner and the electronic reader. Be sure to wear the bib number visibly on the chest. Do not fold or crumple your bib number or tag and be sure to use a pin for EACH corner of the bib number. DO NOT pierce the tag itself. The BIBTAG system cannot be altered in any way prior to or during the event. Please DO NOT try to remove it! The tags do not have to be collected after the race so each participant can keep the bib with the tag as a souvenir. Finisher Items In 2015, every participant of the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds will receive not only a great participant tee, post-race food and beer, and photos but EVERY finisher will receive an item to celebrate and commemorate their accomplishment. Full marathon finishers receive a 4 ¼ medal. Half marathon finishers receive a 3 ¼ medal. 5K participants receive a 2 ½ medal. Team Relay participants receive an official Relay Finisher 4 x 2.9 baton! Congratulations to all participants on joining the #RunKCM family. Charlie Hustle Charlie Hustle is Kansas City s own widely popular vintage T-shirt company. Founded in 2012, Charlie Hustle is quickly becoming one of the most well-known brands in the area and is the go-to source for demonstrating KC pride. 5 Schedule of Events 6:30 a.m. ALL team relay buses will depart from the south of the intersection of Pershing Road and Main Street for exchange points 2, 3 and 4. There will be NO bus for the first exchange point which is located at Liberty Memorial Mall and Wyandotte. 7 a.m. Wheelchair participants start 7:05 a.m. Full marathon, half marathon and team relay start 7:30 a.m. 5K start (All 5K participants are to line up behind all full, half and team relay participants) 9:30 a.m. Kids Marathon start (on west side of Washington Square Park on Main Street) pg. 5

6 Health & Fitness Expo/ Packet Pickup Location Crown Center Exhibit Hall (located near the Sheraton Crown Center) 2323 McGee Street Kansas City, Missouri Hours of Operation Thursday, October 15 from 3-8 p.m. Friday, October 16 from 11 a.m. 8 p.m. THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY PACKET PICKUP Packet pickup will take place at the Health & Fitness Expo which is free and open to the public. It will feature a variety of vendors and companies both local and national. For a full list of vendors, visit marathon/race-weekend/expopacket-pickup/healthfitness-expo-vendors/ Packet pickup will be organized by bib number. Participants bib number will be available via the Kansas City Marathon App or via the bib receipt printers which will be onsite at the entrance of the Expo Hall. This number is different from your confirmation number received after registering. Parking for the Health & Fitness Expo is free with validation (for up to 3 hours). Registration Policy Registration fees are non-refundable and entries cannot be transferred to another year. The 2015 Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds does not condone nor approve purchasing or selling registrations. In order to protect all participants and insure a safe event, each individual participating in this event MUST be officially registered under their own name and information. Failure to do so will void the registration and prohibit participation. Contact race staff directly with any questions at register@kcmarathon.org. pg. 6

7 Merchandise NEW in Participants are able to order and receive their Kansas City Marathon merchandise and custom apparel BEFORE race weekend. Go to Kansas-City-Marathon to view and order yours today! All orders MUST be completed online prior to Sunday, October 11 to receive prior to race weekend. Ultramax will be printing onsite during the Health & Fitness Expo. If you miss your change at the Expo, no worries. 8 Course-Maps, Notes & Time Limit Download the Kansas City Marathon App to access course maps on the go!

9 Course Time Limit There is a 6 hour time limit that the course is closed and the aid stations are available. However, the Kansas City Police Department may open sections of the course to let vehicles cross when there are large gaps in the participants and it is deemed safe. Participants must maintain at least a 14 minute per mile pace to make the course deadline. Participants in the marathon that do not maintain the 14 minute pace per mile will be asked to turn onto the half marathon course at the course split. Course Notes Mile Markers Mile markers will be positioned every mile on each of the courses. In addition, there will be signage at the course splits for the 5K and half marathon participants. All races share the first mile of the course together. The marathon and half marathon share the first 8 miles of the course together before splitting. Please pay close attention when coming up to a split to ensure you stay on the correct course. Aid Stations The marathon course will have Aid Stations about every 2 miles with fruit available at miles 14.5 and 22, and GU (vanilla and strawberry banana) at miles 9 and 20. The half marathon course will have Aid Stations about every 2 miles with fruit available at mile 9. The 5K will have one Aid Station available just after mile 2 along the course. Each Aid Station will have a restroom, water, Gatorade and medical kits available. NOTE: No oral medication will be available on the course. Aid Stations WILL NOT have Tylenol, Advil, allergy medicine, etc. Restrooms Restrooms will be available at each of the aid stations along the course as well as at the Finish Line Festival presented by BNY Mellon. pg. 9

10 Relay Exchange Points Leg 1: 3.4 miles Exchange 1 located at the end of Liberty Memorial Mall and Wyandotte Liberty Memorial Leg 2: 9.2 miles Exchange 2 located at the intersection of 52nd Terrace and Summit Street Loose Park Leg 3: 3.8 miles Exchange 3 located at the intersection of 75th Street and Wornall Road Waldo Leg 4: 5.7 miles Exchange 4 located at the intersection of 39th Street and Gillham Road Gillham Park Leg 5: 4.1 miles Spectator Notes The relay exchange points are a great location for family and friends to spectate! Exchange points are located near parking lots with easy access to and from the start/finish area. In addition to the relay exchange points, there will be 7 specific spectator cheering points along the course. Family and friends are encouraged to go to these points along the course and cheer all the participants as they make their way to the finish. Spectator Points 1. 11 Pacers Information -presented by Missouri Lottery Pacers Information presented by Missouri Lottery There will be half marathon pacers for finishing times of 1:30, 1:35, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:05, 2:10, 2:15, 2:20, 2:25, 2:30, 2:35, 2:40, 2:45, 2:50, 2:55, 3:00, 3:15, and 3:30. There will be marathon pacers for finishing times of 3:15, 3:30, 3:40, 3:50, 4:00, 4:10, 4:20, 4:30, 4:40, 4:50, 5:00, 5:15, 5:30, and 5:45. The pacers will be from the SmartPace Team. The SmartPace Team is a collection of all stars with their running backgrounds and positive personalities. Combine that with an intelligent game plan and you have a winner! There will be an opportunity to meet them at the pacer booth at the packet pickup as well as to pick up a complimentary pace band. On race morning, they ll be easy to spot with their pace signs and bright red shirts. We encourage you to take advantage of this major perk! pg. 11

12 Race Day Information Parking Race day parking is located south of the finish line area along 27th Street between Gillham Road and Grand Boulevard. There are eight lots available free of charge for participants and guests. Parking lots will be available on a first-come, first served basis. Participants and guests are also able to utilize any other parking opportunities available in the vicinity including Union Station. As a NOTE, the Kids Marathon will start at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Main and Pershing, which may hinder any participants or spectators wishing to leave from Union Station parking until 10 a.m. NOTE: Please allow yourself at least minutes before start time (7 a.m.) to park, walk to the start, use the restroom, warm up and check gear on race morning. Race Number Please place your race number so it is visible from the front. Race numbers may be attached to your shirt, the top of your shorts or a race belt. Safety pins will be available at the Health & Fitness Expo and the Information tent in the Finish Line Festival presented by BNY Mellon. Remember, if you plan on taking off layers during the race, pin your number to the bottom layer. Your race number MUST be visible when you cross the finish line. Headphones The use of headphones is strongly discouraged. While the Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation along with the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds strongly discourages the use of headphones for safety purposes, there is not a ban on wearing such devices EXCEPT for those athletes eligible for prize money. Many runners choose not to wear headphones and, instead, listen to the entertainment and the crowd cheering them along the route to the finish line. Staging and Start Lines Marathon, half marathon, and team relay participants are to line up based on your expected finish time with faster athletes at the front. There will be pace leaders with expected finish time signs to help you find your place at the start line. No spectators are allowed in the fenced start area. Only registered athletes are permitted. 5K participants are to line up BEHIND the entire marathon, half marathon and team relay participants. The 5K race will start at approximately 7:30 a.m. AFTER the marathon, half marathon and team relay. Medical Support A large staffed medical tent will be stationed next to the finish line. The medical staff has the right to withdraw any athlete from the event who appears in distress or who may be at risk should he or she continue on the course. In addition, aid stations will be available throughout the course with restrooms, water, Gatorade and medical kits available. NOTE: No oral medication will be available on the course. 13 Gear Check & Lost and Found Gear Check Gear Check will be located on the Northwest side of Washington Square Park just past the stage. Official gear check bags for 2015 will be handed out during packet pickup at the Health & Fitness Expo. Each participant is only allowed one bag for their gear. To ensure the safety and security of all participants and guests on race day, only official Gear Check bags will be accepted at the Gear Check tent on race day. No exceptions. To check your gear, place all items inside the clear bag and secure your gear check tag, included on your bib, to the top of the bag using the twist tie. Then drop your bag at the appropriate section of gear check. Each event will have its own section marked by colored signage. NOTE: Each participant is allowed ONE gear check bag each. Please have your personal bib number tag attached to your bag upon check in race morning. NOTE about START CHUTE: Any and ALL clothing discarded and left within the race chute will be collected after the start and placed into donation bags for pick up. Items WILL NOT be available for pick up when you finish. Any items you wish to have back at the conclusion of your race are to be placed into your gear check bag and checked prior to the race start. Lost and Found Any items found within the start/finish area will be returned to the Information tent of the Finish Line Festival presented by BNY Mellon. Any items found that are not claimed on race day or that are found out along the course will be at the Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation offices the week following. Please to claim any lost and found items. NOTE: Each participant is allowed ONE gear check bag each. Please have your personal bib number tag attached to your bag upon check-in race morning.

Add them to your tracking list and follow along on race day! Live tracking also provides the option to have push notifications sent directly to your phone. Once you have followed a runner, simply click on their name within the live tracking page, click the Following button and Enable Push Notifications to receive a message every time your runner crosses a split. Want to share your runner s success with all your friends? 15 Finish Line Festival presented by BNY Mellon Entertainment Again this year, the Finish Line Festival presented by BNY Mellon will have three great local acts to entertain finishers and families race day. Southern Vixens This female trio features country from yesterday and today along with a mix of rock n roll, all done with a unique Southern Vixen twist. Ironband Comprised of amateur endurance athletes, runners, triathletes, cyclists, adventure racers, and musicians, Ironband s live shows are packed with originals and rocking cover tunes that will have you entertained. Kangaroo Knife Fight This four-piece indie rock band is based in Kansas City and is fronted by Anthony Avis and his soulful voice, yet driven with the edge of today s modern indie rock. pg. 15

16 Food & Beer The 2015 Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds will have participant food provided by Seasons 52. Seasons 52 is a celebration of what s good now with seasonally inspired dishes containing ingredients at the peak of their freshness. They provide the best of each season, straight to your table. Thank you to Central States Beverage! Central States Beverage will be providing all the participants of the 2015 Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds a beer after they finish the race. Central States Beverage is located right here in Kansas City where they provide and distribute several product lines in both Kansas and Missouri with case volume in excess of 5 million per year. Each participant (21 years of age and older) will receive a complimentary beer donated by Central States Beverage. Be sure to have your ID as everyone will be carded! Results & Awards Results will be available onsite at the Results Tent located next to merchandise. Each participant can have their results printed onsite to take home that day! NOTE: There will be NO Awards Ceremony on Race Day. But be sure to stick around and enjoy all the festivities available at the Finish Line Festival presented by BNY Mellon. Results will not be finalized until Wednesday, October 21. This is to ensure accurate information and placement for all participants prior to awards. All awards will be mailed directly to participants using the address they provided during registration. Athletes are eligible to win awards in multiple categories (excluding the overall male and female winners of each event). pg. 16

17 I-35 Challenge: Kansas City I-35 Challenge participant check in will take place at the Kansas City Sports Commission booth which will be located near the entrance of the Health & Fitness Expo. After picking up your regular race materials for the Kansas City Marathon, i.e. your participant bib, participant tee and gear check bag, please stop by the Kansas City Sports Commission booth to check in. Upon check in, you will receive your official I-35 Challenge participant tee along with your first official I-35 Challenge race bib specifically for Kansas City race day on Saturday. You are not required to wear your Kansas City I-35 Challenge race bib on Saturday, but it is strongly encouraged. 18 Volunteers Events like these could not take place without the support of great volunteers! Over 1,500 volunteers are needed to make this event a success! Make sure to thank all the vital volunteers you see and encounter race weekend. From packet pickup, aid stations, course monitors, green team and food, all volunteers are crucial to making this event happen. As a way to help give back to the city, the Kansas City Marathon enlists the help of local groups, organizations and clubs to help keep the 26.2 mile course safe.
