2 About the Marathon In its inaugural year, the University of Maine Black Bear Marathon and Half Marathon expects to have 1200 runners, and over 1000 spectators and volunteers. Proceeds from the marathon will support the youth summer camp scholarship program, the student emergency fund, and student wellness and substance abuse prevendon programs. Both the marathon and the half marathon will begin at 7:30 AM. The course for the half marathon starts on the UMaine campus and travels through Orono and Old Town and onto the university bike path for a return to campus. The full marathon course is a double loop. The Black Bear Marathon is an event that will extend much farther than just the race through Orono and Old Town, however. Our goal is to build a healthier and stronger community by engaging our people all over the the state of Maine and beyond in this excidng and energizing event and in doing so create opportunides for our supported programs. Sponsorships will help raise money to allow underprivileged children the freedom to learn and grow through summer camp programs. Secondly, proceeds will provide UMaine students increased opportunity for help with substance use and abuse issues, not to mendon open doors for others who want to make a posidve change in their own lives. Your organizadon s name or logo will appear by the stage. Sponsor a Water StaDon: There are up to 12 water stadons along the marathon and half marathon course. Sponsorships are available for one or more locadons. Sponsor a Photographer: Photographers will be placed throughout the course. By sponsoring a photographer, your logo will appear on the official pictures. Food/beverage Sponsor: Provide pre- race or post- race food to the runners with logo or banner at food stadons. 6 2015 Race Management We andcipate this race will bring 2,000+ people to the Old Town/Orono area. Going through the downtown secdons of both Old Town & Orono and through the University of Maine campus, our course will offer plenty of exposure opportunides for your business. Management of the University of Maine Black Bear Marathon and Half Marathon is coordinated by a commixee of University and community members who run, direct races and love to give back to the community.
