1 JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: School Social Wker SALARY: Band 12, SP 34 37, TTO + 2 Weeks, 25,538 27,514 (Actual) REPORTS TO: Seni Leader with responsibility f Safeguarding and Child Protection Liaising with: Seni Leadership Team (SLT), Special Educational Needs & Disability Leader (SENDL), Educational Social Wkers (ESWs), Head of House Team, Subject Teachers, Personalised Suppt Team, Parents/Carers/Guardians, External Agencies PURPOSE: To suppt vulnerable students To develop and maintain links between school and external agencies to ensure the safety and well being of all students To ensure the safeguarding of students Key Areas 1. Child protection and safeguarding 2. Suppting students 3. Suppting staff 4. Suppting parents/carers/guardians 5. Liaison with other agencies 6. Safeguarding 7. Development 8. General Duties & Responsibilities 1. Child Protection & Safeguarding I. Assist the Designated Seni Person (DSP) in making referrals to external agencies including Children s Social Care. II. Develop robust systems (both electronic and paper) to recd all issues relating to students subject to a Child Protection Plan, CAF, those identified as Child in Need, Looked After Children and other vulnerable cohts. III. Be responsible f writing CAFs f identified students and liaising with appropriate staff to gather necessary infmation. IV. Monit the progress, attendance and behaviour of key cohts of vulnerable students identified by the school and wk with key staff to ensure that they are achieving at least expected progress. V. Maintain accurate and detailed recds of all wk undertaken with targeted students and their families. VI. When necessary esct identified students into school to ensure full attendance. VII. Produce repts f external agencies, including documentation f Care Services, TAC meetings and court proceedings. VIII. Attend all necessary meetings relating to issues of Child Protection and Safeguarding. IX. Suppt SENDL/SLT with responsibility f Looked After Children as required. X. Assist the DSP in being a main point of contact f all issues of Child Protection and Safeguarding. XI. Develop systems to recd and monit safeguarding and provide data repts f the SLT.
2 2. Suppting Students I. Be available during social times, befe and after school f students to discuss any issues/concerns they may have, whilst upholding the school s ethos, policies and expectations. II. Participate with colleagues in sht and medium term planning relating to individual suppt f students. III. In conjunction with relevant staff liaise with external agencies to ensure individual and relevant suppt f students. IV. Monit regularly the impact of intervention and suppt against student progress and assess value f money. V. Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers and other agencies as appropriate. 3. Suppting Staff I. Wk in partnership with colleagues on issues of Child Protection and Safeguarding, to ensure the safety and well being of all students. II. Collabate with teachers to link intervention and suppt with progress of identified students. III. Communicate effectively to staff issues regarding students being fully suppted without compromising issues of confidentiality. 4. Suppting Parents/Carers/Guardians I. Undertake home visits as necessary, following school procedures and guidelines to encourage parental participation in their children s educational development and to give infmation regarding their child s development and well being. II. When necessary esct parents/carers/guardians to school f meetings. III. Suppt parents/carers/guardians in their understanding of issues relating to their child s safety and well being. IV. Where appropriate advise parents/carers/guardians to ensure they are receiving appropriate suppt e.g. benefits, health etc. and signposting them to the relevant external agencies. V. Advise on and assist the school in fostering closer links between schools, parents/carers/guardians and other local agencies. VI. Establish and facilitate group wk with parents/carers/guardians, where appropriate, to help them realise their potential as educats, know the achievements and expectations of their child and how they can suppt assist their child s learning. 5. Liaison with other Agencies I. Develop effective wking relationships with a wide range of external agencies, e.g. Children s Social Care, LAC services, Health Service representatives, as appropriate to the individual student. II. Keep school fully infmed of the nature of contacts made and how the various agencies impact on the progress of the individual student. III. Maximise the use of suitable resources available from outside agencies in der to fmulate the most effective strategy f addressing individual needs. IV. Maintain accurate recds of all agency involvement with any student. 6. Safeguarding I. Undertake the appropriate level of Child Protection training to be able to make referrals to Children s Social Care and other safeguarding agencies.
3 II. Wk in conjunction with the DSP to ensure that all matters of child protection and safeguarding are dealt with. 7. Development I. Ensure continued personal professional development through attendance at relevant training. II. Undertake appropriate training in the use of ICT software programs. III. Suppt staff in their understanding of issues relating to student welfare. 8. General/Health & Safety I. Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Headteacher. II. To contribute to the life of the School community, and to suppt its ethos and policies. III. Be aware of the responsibility f personal health, safety and welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions inactions. IV. Be aware of the specific issues relating to health and safety in your area and make appropriate assessments of any risk. V. Co operate with the employer on all issues to do with health, safety and welfare.
