We seek individuals who are passionate about transfming the DC school system and making a significant difference in the lives of public school students, parents, principals, teachers, and Central Office employees. DCPS serves 46,500 students in the nation s capital through the effts of approximately 3,500 educats in 111 schools. As part of a comprehensive refm efft to become the preeminent urban school system in America, DCPS intends to have the highest-perfming, best paid, most satisfied, and most honed educat fce in the nation and a distinctive central office staff whose wk suppts and drives instructional excellence and significant achievement gains f DCPS students. Position Overview The Office of Specialized Instruction's (OSI) vision is f the District of Columbia Public Schools to be the district of choice f students requiring early childhood education, students with disabilities, and English language learners. We serve our students requiring additional suppts by providing high-quality instruction and services as close to home as possible and in the timely and consistent manner they deserve. The Inclusive Programming division wks to provide a high quality continuum of services in an inclusive environment so every student with disabilities is prepared f success in college, career, and life. The division wks with schools to design, implement, and monit programs and suppts f students with disabilities. The Social Wker is part of the Office of Specialized Instruction (OSI) team and local school-based through the Office of Youth Engagement (OYE). These offices are responsible f providing services to students with special needs and the general education student population. As such, the Social Wker is involved in the following six (6) key areas: (1) preventive wk with students, staff, and families that promotes positive school climate and social/emotional wellbeing; (2) program development to meet the unique needs of the school; (3) program planning that contributes to the development of school-wide policies; (4) advocacy that suppts students and families; (5) direct services to students and families; and (6) and special education. This position is a safety-sensitive position. As a result, throughout employment this position will be subject to the Employee Mandaty Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy. The Social Wker repts to the Manager, Mental Health & Behavi Suppt Services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of wk being perfmed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/ skills required. Other duties may be assigned. Preventive wk with students, staff, and families

2 Certified Providing consultation to school staff and parents to facilitate student educational, social, and emotional growth. Obtaining infmation concerning the effects of environment, including family, cultural, and economic disadvantages that may be adversely affecting student progress. Conducting home visits that encourage home/school communication. Wking collabatively with the Student Suppt Team (SST) to develop plans of assistance f students at risk of academic and/ behavial difficulty. Codinating school and community services. Serving as the home-school-community liaison responsible f effective resource utilization and positive relations with stakeholders. Program Development Conducting needs assessments. Planning f suppt services both within and outside the school. Facilitating special suppt groups, i.e. students with incarcerated parents, grief and loss, divce, teen parents, conflict resolution, etc. as needed. Managing family resource centers, where parents/guardians can access needed infmation and participate in opptunities to learn how to suppt their student(s). Program Planning Wking with administrats to implement effective policies that address school safety, school attendance, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, child abuse, and neglect. Advocacy Serving as a mediat within the school. Communicating with other agencies involved with students. Attending court hearings as a DC Public Schools representative. Making appropriate referrals f community resources. Direct Services Providing individual counseling. Providing group counseling. Providing psycho-education. Providing crisis intervention. Providing parent training. Special Education Serving as a member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). Conducting social wk evaluations and other related assessments f initial evaluations and re-evaluations. Providing related services as prescribed by Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), including social skills, life skills, and transitional skills that can be transferred from school to community. Participating in MDT, IEP, manifestation determination, and other related meetings. Wking collabatively within the classroom setting to implement student IEPs.

3 Certified Collecting data f the purpose of moniting social/emotional progress and evaluating effectiveness of services. Providing technical assistance on strategies that improve outcomes f special education students. Codinating the design and implementation of behavi intervention plans and functional behavi assessments. Keeping though recds of each student receiving services. Completing student progress repts. Qualifications Master s degree in Social Wk (MSW). District of Columbia Government, Department of Health Professional License. Licensed Independent Clinical Social Wker (LICSW). District of Columbia Certification through Office of State Superintendent of Education as a School Social Wker. Notice of Non-Retaliation District of Columbia Public Schools will not intimidate, threaten, coerce, discriminate against, retaliate take adverse employment action against any employee, student, volunteer that in good faith and with honest and non-malicious intent makes a rept regarding potential violations of laws, regulations policies. Retaliation includes, but is not limited to, adverse job actions such as termination; denial of any bonus, benefit training; reduction of salary decrease in hours; change in transfer to a lesser position. Individuals who violate this policy will be subject to the appropriate and applicable disciplinary process, up to and including termination. The following Federal and District law concerning non-retaliation suppts our Non-Retaliation Policy. Title VII, Section 704(a), of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, states the following: (a) Discrimination f making charges, testifying, assisting, participating in enfcement proceedings It shall be an unlawful employment practice f an employer to discriminate against any of his employees applicants f employment, f an employment agency, join lab-management committee controlling apprenticeship other training retraining, including on-the-job training programs, to discriminate against any individual, f a lab ganization to discriminate against any member thereof applicant f membership, because he has opposed any practice made an unlawful employment practice by this subchapter, because he has made a charge, testified, assisted, participated in any manner in an investigation, proceeding, hearing under this subchapter. DC Law 2-38 (Human Rights Act of 1977), Part G, Sec , states the following: Coercion retaliation (a) It shall be an unlawful discriminaty practice to coerce, threaten, retaliate against, interfere with any person in the exercise enjoyment of, on account of having exercised enjoyed, on account of having aided encouraged any other person in the exercise enjoyment of any right granted protected under this chapter. (b) It shall be an unlawful discriminaty practice f any person to require, request, suggest that a person retaliate against, interfere with, intimidate discriminate against a person, because that person has opposed any practice made unlawful by this chapter, because that person has made a charge, testified, assisted, participated in any manner in an investigation, proceeding hearing authized under this chapter. (c) It shall be an unlawful discriminaty practice f any person to cause coerce, attempt to cause coerce, directly indirectly, any person to prevent any person from complying with the provisions of this chapter. DC Municipal Regulations, Title 5, (Board of Education) Subsection (z) states the following: (z) Retaliation f repting harassment and sexual harassment. An employee commits an offense under this provision when he/she retaliates against any person who repts alleged harassment sexual harassment, any person who testifies, assists participates in an investigation, who testifies, assists participates in a proceeding hearing relating to such harassment sexual harassment. An employee retaliates against a person if, as a result of action taken by the employee described in the previous sentence, 1) such person is reasonably intimidated by verbal threats physical conduct of the employee, 2) such person is denied an opptunity, right privilege to which he/she would otherwise be entitled, 3) such person is subjected to detrimental treatment to which he/she would not otherwise be subjected.
