1 2016 POSITION DESCRIPTION Student Ambassador Position Title Student Ambassador HEW Level HEW 2 School / Unit Faculty / Division Reports to Direct Reports Contract Type Marketing and Communications Vice-Chancellor s Division Student Recruitment Officer None Casual ROLE DESCRIPTION Provide support to the Student Recruitment team in the delivery of domestic undergraduate student recruitment and marketing activities that promote the University via traditional and online channels, with a focus on engaging and influencing future students to drive lead generation and conversion to application. OVERVIEW OF UNIT/SCHOOL AND POSITION CONTEXT The Student Recruitment team within Marketing and Communications supports the implementation of the domestic undergraduate recruitment strategy through brand awareness, event management and school engagement, maximising opportunities to influence future student audiences to drive lead generation and application preference to support the achievement of recruitment targets. Student Ambassadors play a key role within the team engaging with future students sharing their university experiences through school talks, careers expos, on-campus events, online communities and University of promotional tools. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TYPICAL ACTIVITIES Area of accountability Engagement, Recruitment and Advice Core Responsibilities & Typical Activities Represent the University in a positive manner within the community with a focus on increasing awareness of University degree offerings and enhancing the reputation of the University. Engage with, and talk to future students and their influencers about university experiences, degree, support services, facilities and university life at student recruitment events and activities, including Measures of Performance Positive feedback from supervisor and stakeholders Positive feedback

2 Communication and Social Networking Event Support Administration but not limited to: - School talks - Careers markets and expos - Campus tours - University Open Days and sessions - Any other student recruitment events or activities as required. Deliver engaging presentations about the University of on topics such as degrees, admission processes, alternative pathways, scholarships, services and facilities, including first-hand experiences, to a range of audiences including high school students, parents and career advisers. Engage with future students by actively contributing to social media channels such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, sharing university experiences and assisting students with enquiries during peak seasons. Provide a personal profile documenting university experiences for use in University promotional tools, including but not limited to the website, videos testimonials and publications. Actively participate in and assist with Student Recruitment events including event setup and dismantlement and preparation of materials. Undertake any other duties relevant and appropriate to this level as directed. from event attendees and university stakeholders Adoption of engaging presentation techniques Adoption of engaging techniques Successful completion in line with specific objectives Timely and effective completion of tasks Timely and effective completion of tasks POSITION CHARACTERISTICS Organisational Knowledge Professional / Industry Knowledge Level of supervision / Be familiar with, and observe, the University s policy and procedures on Complaints Resolution, Equity and Diversity, and Work Health and Safety in the performance of the responsibilities of the position. Understand and be familiar with the tertiary admissions process. Under the leadership of the supervising Student

Ability to show initiative and to work with minimal supervision at times. Ability to apply common sense in unforeseen situations. More complex issues to be referred to the supervising Student Recruitment Officer for advice or decision. Be able to attend a compulsory 2-day training module Be able to travel and work outside the normal span of office hours, including evening work and overnight travel. Current NSW C class (car) driver s licence Be able to lift loads of up to 15kgs Be able to stand for long periods of time Yes If successful in gaining a position it s the responsibility of the applicant to obtain a Working With Children Check. There is no fee for students and the check lasts for five years. INHERENT REQUIREMENTS This Position Description outlines the major accountabilities/responsibilities and the selection criteria against which you will be assessed as suitable for the position. 4 ESSENTIAL CRITERIA A current University of undergraduate student studying one of the following degrees (you can apply for multiple positions if you are studying more than one degree): Degree Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Business Bachelor of Biotechnology Bachelor of Communication Bachelor of Construction Management Bachelor of Design (Architecture) Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management Bachelor of Nursing Bachelor of Oral Health Bachelor of Podiatry Bachelor of Psychology Bachelor of Science Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) Newstep Open Foundation Campus or or or or or Motivated, outgoing and enthusiastic with a willingness to share positive experiences about studying at the University of. Knowledge and understanding of the needs of, and ability to relate to future undergraduate students and the influences that impact upon their choice of a university degree. Strong public speaking skills with the ability to develop a rapport with future students and their influencers, and keep audiences engaged. A high level of professionalism and enthusiasm with good customer service and communication skills. The ability to work as part of a team and independently to complete allocated tasks. Ability to show initiative and to work with minimal supervision. Proven time management and organisational skills. Be able to attend out-of-hours activities and the ability to travel in areas beyond,, Port Macquarie and Sydney and be away for up to one week at a time. Current NSW C class (car) driver s licence with confidence driving in all conditions, including city traffic and open country roads. Be able to lift loads of up to 15kgs and have the ability to stand for long periods of time. Knowledge of workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.
