Tell the childre before the lesso (maybe durig circle time or the day before) that you are oly goig to speak Eglish durig the lesso ad that you will use a sig at the begiig to show that from that poit you will speak Eglish (hat, flag, rhyme etc.) Tell them you will explai thigs with pictures ad gestures ad they ca ask you questios i Dutch. Start the lesso with the sig Materials ad orgaisatio: - the sig (hat,flag..) - the childre are seated i a circle or at their desks Itroductio phase: - flashcards aimals from the book - the book (if you have a copy) Tell the childre they are goig to lear the words for colours ad some aimals. Show the childre the flashcards with the aimals from the book (oly the pictures ot the words o the back!) Say what aimal it is. Do they kow some of the words already? What other aimal words do they kow? Now look at the colours. The bear is brow, etc. Do they already kow some colours? What other colours do they kow? Ecourage the childre to say words they already kow for aimals ad colours i Eglish ad give them complimets whe they do. You kow a lot already! Good job! wow, that was very good, etc. Tell the childre they are goig to liste to a story ad practise the colours with a game. Itroduce the book: Brow bear, brow bear, what do you see.

Iput phase: - the book or the clip o YouTube The Book: Brow bear, brow bear, what do you see? Read the book or show the clip o the iteractive board. Note: The woma readig the book i the clip speaks America Eglish. If you as a teacher speak British Eglish, that is fie also. (Wat doe de kidere? Nadeke, atwoorde, schrijve, luistere, opruime, etc.) The childre liste to the story ad respod to your questios afterwards (they are allowed to speak Dutch, but you speak Eglish). This is the text i case you have a Dutch versio of the book: Brow bear, brow bear, what do you see? I see a red bird, lookig at me. Red bird, red bird, what do you see? I see a yellow duck lookig at me. Yellow duck, yellow duck, what do you see? I see a blue horse, lookig at me. Blue horse, blue horse.. (etcetera) Gree frog Purple cat White dog Black sheep Goldfish Teacher, teacher what do you see? I see childre, lookig at me. Did the childre like the story? Maybe the childre say that there are o blue horses or purple cats. It is a bit strage, but aythig ca happe i a story. Iput phase: - colour flashcards or coloured paper

4 games with colours Tell the childre you are goig to play a game about colours, but before you ca do that they have to practise the colours with you. Use the colour flashcards or coloured paper: brow, red, yellow, blue, gree, purple, white, black. The childre repeat what you say Show them a colour ad say what it is, the childre repeat what you say. Do this a few times with all the colours. colour bigo You ca the had the learers ( i groups) smaller flashcards with colours ad ame the colour. The childre the (as a group) have to show ( put up) the proper card with the correct colour. Variatio: If they kow some colours already, ask them: what colour is this? they ca aswer with: red or it s red Note! The objective for this lesso is that they recogise the colours, they do ot have to ame them yet! (oly whe they already kow them) Practise phase: No materials eeded. Game: teacher, teacher, what do you see? Tell the childre you are ow goig to play a game called Teacher, teacher, what do you see? Like the book, but ow the childre have to ask you what you see. Ask them to repeat: Teacher, teacher, what do you see? Ad the say: I see somethig blue. The walk to somethig blue i the classroom ad touch it. Say: I touch somethig blue. (You ca also me what you say). The demostrate the game with a child who you thik will uderstad. Ask the child to say: Teacher, teacher, what do you see? Ad the aswer with: I see somethig red. Tell the child to look aroud ad walk to somethig red i the classroom ad touch it. Do you see somethig red? Touch somethig red. Perhaps you have to demostrate touch agai. Give the child a big complimet! The childre ask a set questio ad the liste to a istructio, which they follow-up. Now tell all the childre to stad up. (demostrate)

The childre touch somethig with that colour i the classroom (try to make them fid somethig close to where they are stadig). Tell them it s ot a race, they ca ot ru. Repeat this with other colours. At the ed ask the childre to sit dow agai ad praise them. Variatio with more movemet: The childre walk through the classroom util you say stop. The they say: teacher, teacher.. ad you give them a colour they have to touch.
