2 LGSO : MONUMENTS Monuments. What is it that makes something achieve this status? What makes one structure ordinary and another one have some kind of importance attached to it that gives it the grand description of monument? Height can certainly influence this designation, as skyscrapers are commonly referred to as monuments. But really any structure with a certain level of historical importance can have this designation from the Statue of Liberty to a war memorial, all the way to a roadside attraction. The term monument can also be applied to other areas as well. Think of a work of literature that stirs your soul, a famous painting that takes your breath away, or a performance of a play that is life-changing. Authors, playwrights, painters, sculptors, actors, composers, musicians, dancers, individual performances all of these can achieve monumental status. In our season, we will explore this idea of a monument and all of the ways it can be applied to music. We hope that you will be able to use this term to describe everything about our season, from the pieces we perform, to the guest artists, orchestral musicians, composers, audience, volunteers, sponsors, and venues. 3 EXPERIENCING Under Music Director David Anderson, the LGSO reaches new milestones in artistic achievement and community outreach. The season brings to life three monumental Symphonies: Tchaikovsky s No. 4, Beethoven s No. 3, and Sibelius No. 2. LGSO hosts nationally recognized pianist Krassimira Jordan, performing Ravel s Piano Concerto, and Matthew Zaremba of Williams Bay, the 2014 Young Artist Competition winner. Partnering with Calvary Community Church, LGSO presents three holiday performances of sacred and secular music for choir and orchestra. EDUCATING LGSO s School Day Concerts have brought live symphony orchestra music to nearly 10,000 Walworth County elementary school students since 2001, while masterclasses by visiting artists enrich young players musical experience. The Fellows Program brings undergraduate musicians to the LGSO, and the Young Artist Competition selects a local high school musician to solo with the orchestra. Classical music concerts draw sophisticated audiences seeking quality services, shopping, and entertainment. As an LGSO sponsor your business enjoys an intimate introduction to an attentive reader. LGSO expects more than 2000 people to attend its seven orchestra performances in distributed at each of LGSO s seven season concerts, including three Christmas concert performances. Your business will be listed as a sponsor in the program book and on LGSO s website. Bronze, Silver, and Gold sponsor ads will be in color, located in featured positions, and include a link on LGSO s website and complimentary tickets to classical concerts. Additional benefits are available for Platinum sponsors. The Fellows program allows selected undergraduate musicians to participate in the LGSO by providing a travel stipend for rehearsals and performances, but the program needs your support. Your business can sponsor an LGSO Fellow with a donation of $750. Fellows sponsors will receive a half-page color advertisement and will be recognized separately in the concert program. Our goal is to have between 7 and 9 LGSO Fellows this season.
