1 Great Falls Symphony Association Posting for Executive Director Position: Executive Director Salary: Commensurate with experience, with a range of $45,000 - $50,000. Application Deadline: September 15, 2015 Overview The Great Falls Symphony Association seeks an outgoing and passionate non-profit professional for the role of Executive Director to build on the Association s tradition of excellence and help navigate new visions for the future. The Great Falls Symphony is a mid-size symphonic association located under the Big Sky of Central Montana. The organization includes a seventy-member orchestra; one hundred-voice symphonic choir; regional Youth Orchestra program with two orchestra ensembles serving over 100 students in grades 6-12; two professional resident ensembles, who as nine individual musicians serve as principals in the orchestra and in ensemble perform as the Cascade String Quartet and Chinook Winds Quintet. Through these components the GFSA offers a diverse mix of activities including a seven-concert orchestral/choral series and Chamber Music series. Additional activities including the sponsorship of a Broadway Series and other special events which reach approximately 35,000 to 40,000 people annually. To fulfill a state and regional mission, the GFSA places highest priority upon programs that provide statewide outreach for rural communities throughout Montana. Two annual Educational Matinees reach over 3,000 students from as far as 150 miles away. The Association s professional string and woodwind resident ensembles serve the entire state of Montana, traveling an average of 3,000 to 4,000 miles each year presenting concerts and school programs. In its eighteen-year history, the Symphony s Regional Youth Orchestra program has served countless young musicians from public, private and home schools in 20 different communities. In 2004 the GFSA celebrated the 25th year of commitment to its professional string quartet residency with a concert featuring internationally known cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Since that time the World Artist concerts have continued biennially featuring the orchestra with such artists as Itzhak Perlman, Midori, Joshua Bell, Sir James Galway, Evelyn Glennie, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and others. The Executive Director should be able to begin his/her new responsibilities in early December, 2015.

2 Requirements Experience in arts management and non-profit administration, or similar experience in for-profit setting Proven fund development, grant writing, and donor development skills Strong fiscal management and reporting skills Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders (patrons, funders, educators, and business entities) Strong computer skills and knowledge of social media trends Experience in personnel management Experience in community outreach The Executive Director is responsible and accountable for all operational aspects of the organization, and for the implementation of the policies set by the Board of Directors. Principally, the Executive Director promotes financial stability, coordinates Board operations and communications, maximizes audience and community awareness, and oversees concert and event production. The Executive Director will be a visible and active member of the Great Falls community. The Executive Director reports to the President of the Board. The Executive Director fulfills this role by effectively accomplishing the following responsibilities: PLANNING Implement the GFSA strategic plan and annual goals, which support the artistic, financial, and public relations objectives of the organization. Work in conjunction with the Board, Music Director, other staff, consultants, and volunteers to articulate the mission and strategic goals of the GFSA. BOARD OF DIRECTORS Attend appropriate meetings of the Board, Executive Committee and all board committees and implement all policies. Oversee the preparation of reports and other requested materials for all meetings. Coordinate communications with board members. Oversee the maintenance of historical files of all Board / Committee meetings.

3 Comply with all GFSA bylaws and policies. SERVICE VOLUNTEERS Establish and coordinate GFSA volunteer organization. FUND RAISING AND DEVELOPMENT Prepare and submit grant applications and reports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Monitor legislative and community activity that affects the organization. Identify and implement new approaches / processes to fundraising. Oversee accurate and complete record keeping of contributions, subscriptions, ticket sales and other significant data. Manage the gift acknowledgement process. Coordinate and accompany Board members on fundraising calls. Oversee endowment, corporate and individual fundraisings efforts. Coordinate GFSA participation in / cooperation with regional and national cultural organizations, as well as building relationships with local schools and other Arts institutions. ARTISTIC ADMINISTRATION Consult with the Music Director in the selection of guest artists and financial viability in the negotiation of contracts. Assist the Music Director in the coordination of import musicians as needed. CONCERT ADMINISTRATION Assist the Music Director and other staff in the implementation of a master plan for all musical operations, including rehearsals and performance schedules, chamber performances, and special events. Negotiate and execute concert hall leases and other rehearsal / performance space as needed. Supervise the securing of required equipment, instruments, licenses, and permits for GFSA operations.

4 Oversee the negotiation and presentation of the Broadway series. Ensure that rehearsals and performances are properly staffed. MARKETING AND PROMOTION Oversee sale of tickets and subscriptions. Arrange for graphic design and brochure preparation, concert program, flyers, print advertisements, and any other promotional pieces. Implement and administer marketing plan. Develop and administer press coverage. Design advertising campaigns. Manage online and social media campaigns. Oversee subscription mailings. Supervise GFSA web site. FINANCE Prepare and submit annual operating budgets. Monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with approved budget. Prepare monthly financial statements including projections and shortfalls for Board review. Coordinate with the Music Director the periodic review of symphony owned instruments and equipment; maintain inventory records; and maintain appropriate insurance against physical damage and public liability. Comply with all reporting requirements of grants. Comply with all GFSA fiscal policies and any applicable state or federal regulations. ADMINISTRATION Hire, supervise, and evaluate administrative personnel, including Administrative Assistants. In coordination with the Music Director, hire, supervise, and evaluate the Education/Outreach Coordinator. Respond to correspondence, including patron suggestions and complaints. Maintain all payroll records for administrative and artistic staff. OTHER Other Tasks assigned by the President that are appropriate to the position.
