4 Civil Ceremonies At Shaw Lane Sports Club, we appreciate that each couple want their day to be unique and one they will cherish forever. Shaw Lane Sports Club is the ideal place to hold your ceremony and we offer a variety of suites in which to do so. The beauty of a civil ceremony is that it can be tailored to your individual requirements, meaning it can include readings and music of your choice. Our experienced staff will be on hand and delighted to ensure that your ceremony goes exactly as you wish. To arrange your ceremony, first you will need to decide upon a date then contact the Superintendent Registrar of the district of the approved premises, of which Shaw Lane Sports Club is one of them, contact us to discuss your dates and make a provisional booking. Once everything is in place we will help you plan your ceremony, to create a ceremony individual to you. 5 The Wedding Suites Shaw Lane Sports Club offers a choice of banqueting suites, which are licensed for civil ceremonies and can accommodate various sized wedding parties; from a small, intimate affair for 40 guests to a larger reception for up to 250 guests. The Griffin Suite Built as recently as 2009, the Griffin Suite is a fantastic sized room able to hold up to 250 guests. We have a licensed bar and a dancefloor, projector facilities and internet access. On top of this we have windows overlooking one of our beautiful bowling greens. The Shaw Suite holds up to 120 people and is also used for a number of different functions, once again with weddings top of the agenda. It has the most convenient access, situated next to reception and a spectacular view overlooking the cricket pitch is seconds away. Facilities include wifi access, a projector and screen. The Pavilion holds up to 160 people and is suitable for a number of functions including weddings. The Holgate Suite is a fine room, perfect for your wedding ceremony and holds up to 60 guests maximum.

12 The Top Table The top table arrangement facing your guests should normally read from left to right: Chief Bridesmaid, Groom s Father, Bride s Mother, Groom, Bride, Bride s Father, Groom s Mother, Best Man. The Receiving Line The receiving line is a courteous, practical and a great way to ensure you see everyone. Normally, when the Bride s parents have sent out invitations, they can be regarded as the host and hostess and should be first in line to receive the guests. Grace The toastmaster may say grace if required after escorting the Bride and Groom to their places at the top table. The toastmaster will introduce someone selected by the Bride and Groom to say grace if required. Sometimes grace is not said. The First Toast The first toast is the duty and privilege of the Bride s father, but where this cannot be the case a close relative or family friend may give this very special toast. The Bride and Bridegroom The Bridegroom responds to this toast on behalf of himself and his Bride. It is also the Bridegroom s duty to make the second toast. The Bridesmaids The Best Man, on behalf of the Bridesmaids, responds to this toast. It is his duty to read out selected messages of congratulations.
