2 About the Event In December 2014, Mosqoy will be hosting our largest event of the year. Held in the Ivy Ballroom at the Fairmont Empress Hotel, the 1 st Annual Winter Gala will bring together influential community members and business owners to celebrate and support Mosqoy. This prestigious event will include a sustainably sourced four-course meal, a spectacular silent auction, an exhibition of our fair-trade hand-woven Andean textiles, and a special keynote address from Wade Davis, Canadian anthropologist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence. The funds raised from this exclusive event will be used to fund Mosqoy s many programs and initiatives. These projects include the Global Stewardship Program, the Andean Youth Program, and the Q ente Textile Community Program. Through these initiatives, we bring awareness of the impacts we have in our increasingly interconnected world and empower people of all ages both locally and in the Andean mountains of Peru to create positive change. 3 About Our Programs Andean Youth Program Launched in 2006, this initiative funds the post-secondary education of up to 20 promising youth per year from rural communities of the Cusco province, a region in the highlands of the Peruvian Andes. Under Mosqoy s program, our scholarship students complete a degree or diploma program at either a technical instituted or university, while receiving leadership training. After completing their education, they are encouraged to return to their home communities to share their knowledge and skills. Our hope is to create more leaders in the community and establish a chain of reciprocity for families to sustain themselves. Thus far, we have supported over 60 students, 27 of whom have graduated. Mosqoy is a Canadian-Peruvian charity that supports the educational and cultural rights of indigenous communities in Southern Peru. Textile Revitalization Program This program works directly with approximately 150 weavers in the Peruvian Andes to revitalize their weaving tradition, an irreplaceable cultural cornerstone for the Quechua culture. We provide fair-trade outlets for our female artisans to sell their masterpieces worldwide, as well as capacity-building workshops to foster interdependence and sustainability. All profits from this social enterprise return to the weavers, the Andean Youth Program s scholarship students, and the weavers communities to invest in socioeconomic development projects of their own choosing. Global Stewardship Program We all make an impact; it is therefore our responsibility to ensure it is a positive one. The purpose of this program is to spread awareness about responsible travel and consumerism, and to spark an interest and passion for global stewardship in youth in developed countries. We host lectures, presentations, and tours at the elementary, high school, and university level in BC and Alberta. We facilitate and encourage the inauguration of school clubs, to create self-driven youth and teach skills of leadership, non-profit management, and social entrepreneurship. 3
