2 Every eleven minutes, one child goes missing Dear Friends, My name is Stanley Wei, Committee Chair of Missing Children Society of Canada s annual Raise Hope dinner and a member of the Board of Directors. 6 WHAT IS THE ISSUE? Over 45,000 children were reported missing in Canada in That s one child every 11 minutes. When a child first goes missing, the police, the media and the community all rally together to help the terrified and anxious family search for their child, but as time goes by, that involvement inevitably decreases. It is for these families that the Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) was established in Our unique and comprehensive programs serve families in the critical hours after a child goes missing and provide ongoing support until the child is found, investigative programs that assist police and searching families, mental health programs that help families deal with the emotional consequences of a missing child, and critical awareness generating campaigns that allow us to provide essential support for searching families. We are the only non-profit in Canada that is actively searching for missing children. We are 100% funded by donations. And we provide our services at no cost to families. WHAT DO WE DO? Emergency Response. In the case a child goes missing, MCSC sends pertinent, time sensitive information to Canadians through three arms of communication: our Most Valuable Project which harnesses the power of social media, our CodeSearch Program, which uses geotargeted alerts to engage corporate partners and their employees, and our partner Marketwired pushes our alerts to every media outlet in the country. Together this program enables us to reach millions of people within a three hour window. Professional Investigations. Our team of former law enforcement have over 150 years of experience between them, and work alongside law enforcement in active investigation driving leads and case developments. Our Investigators work with families, some for over 15 years, in order to bring answers every case, no matter how old, is a priority. Family & Peer Support. No family should have to deal with a missing child alone our programs provide both professional counseling and support from families who have previously dealt with the trauma of a missing child in an ongoing program to help families cope with the emotional tragedy.

7 WHAT ARE WE ACCOMPLISHING? MCSC receives 2 3 calls per day with requests for assistance and to take on new files. MCSC closes on average 3 cases per week. MCSC works with all types of families regardless of socio-economic status. Anyone can experience the ordeal of a missing child. We serve families from quiet suburbs to rural areas to new Canadians as well as schools and shelters. MCSC works alongside all types of government agencies municipal and provincial police, RCMP, Central Authority, the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, Foreign Affairs, consulates and American Fugitive Squad, to name a few. HOW ARE WE DOING IT? Embracing the future through technology and volunteerism Two things are needed for a child to go missing: time and anonymity. By removing those two key elements from the equation, MCSC is bringing missing children home faster. Using technology, we are able to spread information faster and engage a greater number of Canadians in the search these Canadians become volunteers and each and every one of them is critical to recovering that child. By uniting a country in the search for a missing child, MCSC is preventing it from occurring the more eyes on our communities, the smaller the likelihood that an abductor will take a child. Supporting MCSC ensures we can continue to keep Canadians as informed as possible in an emergency and prevent future abductions. Healing our Families Our Family & Peer Support Program is run by an experienced professional counselor who has previously built similar programs and worked with Canadian Mental Health. From one-on-one sessions to speaker series with industry professionals, the program is built for any family member experiencing emotional distress over a missing child parents, grandparents, siblings or extended family. Supporting MCSC means helping these families rebuild their lives. Empowering our Investigative Team Our Investigators provide a critical service to family, law enforcement and other government agencies they are experts in the field of missing children and internationally known. Important leads can come up at a moment s notice, and our families lean on our Investigators for everything from mediation to navigating the legal and judicial systems.
