4 REVENUE RECOVERY SERVICE Almost all companies have at some point been affected by inaccurate utility billing. A number of UK businesses have been recouping hundreds of thousands of pounds in refunds from energy suppliers, purely down to billing errors. BIU carry out audits to recover monies lost due to incorrect billing on water, gas and electricity. Since the start of deregulation in UK energy, billing data has become increasingly complex. There are currently over 1,000 combinations of data that can make up a final invoice, many of which are not visible on the bill. In this environment, it is not surprising that billing errors occur which cannot be picked up in standard day to day validation processes. We log hundreds of different types of billing anomalies using our state of the art systems and apply this expertise to identifying opportunities to recover revenue. BIU handle the negotiations until refunds and / or credits are successfully returned. BIU S REVENUE RECOVERY SERVICES BIU s Revenue Recovery service carries out an in-depth analysis of historic water, gas and electricity bills from the past six years to identify all billing errors. If any inaccuracies which lead to lost revenue for our clients are identified, we will ensure they are rectified. Data Gathering We aim to make the process as easy as possible for all our clients, which is why our team work with you and your suppliers to source historical data, with our team looking back at the previous six years of data. Data Analysis Our team will investigate complex billing data, looking at all aspects of your utility costs, from contracts and tariffs, day to day operations and environmental factors. We will provide a full report on our findings and identify any areas for cost savings and recovery. In reconstructing the bill as it should be, our team can then check data used by the suppliers in the creation of bills. Revenue Recovery Once we have completed our full analysis, we will negotiate with your utility suppliers to recover any costs due from overpayments and correct any false or inaccurate information to help prevent future billing errors. We input all invoices into our Analysis System, EMPIRE, which allows us to carry out in-depth analysis of all utility bills as well as cross-reference them with other data such as metering and data reports. Supplier Relationships We have been working with all energy and water suppliers for over 15 years and our excellent reputation helps us to achieve exceptionally high conversion rates for identifying errors and returning monies quickly and efficiently. Continued Support Our Revenue Recovery team, which collectively has over 100 years expertise within the utilities industry, includes experienced Energy Analysts, Data Management specialists and Account Managers. Every BIU client will have a dedicated Account Manager who will be on-hand to answer any queries and keep you up to date on the project at all stages. 8 BESPOKE SYSTEMS EMPIRE BIU s bespoke energy management system, EMPIRE, was developed and built in-house to ensure we can carry out the most comprehensive analysis of your properties and billing data. We populate the database with the invoices relating to your portfolio of supplies, as well as your contracted rates and any other detailed profile-based consumption data. Energy and Water Supplies The system holds all electricity, gas and water supply data. Meter ID s, meter locations and the number of meters per site are all recorded on EMPIRE. This is useful for both client and supplier queries and results in the property portfolio being managed much more accurately and effectively. Time, money and energy are all saved as a result. Manipulation of Data The system is capable of managing data relating to supply and meter agreements, wholesale energy costs, AMR and half hourly data, carbon emissions, budgets, targets and forecasts covering cost, carbon and consumption, savings initiatives and long term strategic objectives. Property Portfolio Our EMPIRE Analysis System now handles all properties of our 350 clients. The system holds all property details for all sites owned or leased by the client, all utility supply details associated with a specific property, specific site contact details and annual usage for each utility on site, usage forecasts as well as meter details and locations. 8

It has helped us to focus on inaccuracies in a broader sense in other areas of billing. 9
10 REPORTING We provide a complete, fully managed service to all our clients which includes both on-going progress reports and a final evaluation report. Each Revenue Recovery Project is different, therefore we will tailor them to your specific needs. All clients are offered complete access to their consumption, cost and carbon data within our BIU247 system. Reports on the outcome of the audits are then presented separately.
