Everyone takes the NRP Provider Course. The NRP Provider Course is intended for those participants who are taking an NRP course for the first time and for those whose NRP Provider card has expired, as well as for those whose NRP Provider status needs a 2-year renewal. 3 GENERAL INFORMATION Course Description The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is an education program of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association that teaches concepts and skills of neonatal resuscitation. Participants study the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, or view the textbook DVD-ROM and pass the online test in the 30 days prior to attending an NRP course. Class time is used for hands-on practice and simulation/debriefing. Instructors support and evaluate individual skills, then integrate skills and knowledge with essential components of teamwork during simulated neonatal resuscitation scenarios. Our NRP course is designed to cover all 9 lessons in the textbook; however, participants may receive credit for the course by completing the minimum course requirement which is Lessons 1 through 4 and Lesson 9. The Neonatal Outreach Program cannot determine your course requirement. If you are not sure, ask your employer or professional organization. The NRP Provider Course allows ample time for individualized hands-on skills development and practice with an NRP Instructor. Every attempt is made to tailor the course instruction and simulation training to fit the participant s clinical practice. This is a hands-on interactive course. To successfully pass the course, the learner must: Produce the Verification of Completion from the NRP online examination on course day Demonstrate neonatal resuscitation skills (minimum Lessons 1 through 4 in the textbook) Demonstrate the NRP resuscitation flow diagram interventions in correct sequence, integrating cognitive and technical knowledge relevant to the participant s learning objectives (Lessons 1 through 4 or Lessons 1 through 6). Course participants who do not have job responsibilities for procedures such as intubation or umbilical venous catheter placement may pass the online exams for these lessons, practice, and demonstrate these procedures to enhance their learning experience. NRP does not certify the learner to perform any technique, does not imply competence to perform neonatal resuscitation, and does not determine the participant s scope of practice. Support the goals and purpose of NRP Provider status. Practice and demonstrate critical components of newborn resuscitation and demonstrate skills in correct sequence according to the NRP flow diagram to optimize neonatal outcome. Demonstrate NRP knowledge, skills, and teamwork, which may reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality, by participating in simulated newborn resuscitation.

5 REGISTRATION It is suggested that participants register at least 30 days prior to the course to allow adequate time to study the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 6 th edition and take the online examination before the course. Online registration at: Course Fee: $ Includes access to one online examination, instructions will be sent to you. We do not reimburse accidental payment if you access the exam from another website. Parking: Driving and parking directions will be sent with registration confirmation letter. We do not validate the cost of parking at the University of Washington Medical Center. NRP Course Material: Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 6 th edition (2011): Many hospitals have copies for loan; otherwise you may purchase a textbook from the American Academy of Pediatrics online bookstore Cancellation/Transfer/Refund Policy Please note that your full registration fee will not be refunded if you fail to attend the course, request to cancel or reschedule with less than one week s notice prior to the course date. If you reschedule before one week prior to the course, your full registration fee will be applied to your new course. If you reschedule with less than one week s notice, a $10 transfer fee will be applied. If you cancel before one week prior to the course, your registration fee will be refunded minus a $30 administrative fee. If you cancel with less than one week s notice, your registration fee will not be refunded. A space in the course is not confirmed until we receive payment. All fees are the responsibility of the registrant. Confirmation materials, including location information and driving directions, will be ed approximately one month prior to the course, depending on timely registration. No refund if the participant fails to successfully complete all requirements of the course. NRP course attendance does not guarantee successful course completion and attainment of NRP Provider status. If a participant cannot demonstrate critical skills of neonatal resuscitation during the evaluation component of the course, the learner may repeat a Provider course at full cost at a later date.
