2 General Information BSB20115 Certificate II in Business reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of mainly routine tasks using limited practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge in a defined context, working under direct supervision. Completion of the Certificate may lead to employment in any of the following positions: Administration Assistant Clerical Worker Receptionist Office entry-level positions Information Desk Clerk Data Entry Operator You will develop an understanding of the principles and practices of business operations within organisations, learn to use computer applications in a professional context and develop practical administration skills. If you consider you have minimum workplace skill knowledge or experience, this is a great way to gain employable business and office skills that could lead to employment or a traineeship. It is also an ideal program for anyone to gain up-to-date office skills to assist them to re-enter the workforce, gain a traineeship or continue to further study. What is expected of a Certificate II learner? At this level, you will be able to: Demonstrate some theory and practical knowledge in a moderate range of areas Apply a range of well developed skills Apply known solutions to a variety of predictable problems Perform a range of tasks that required well-developed skills where some discretion and judgment is required Interpret available information, using discretion and judgment Take responsibility for own outputs in work and learning Take limited responsibility for the output of others Entry requirements There are no set entry requirements for this course. However, the following underpinning knowledge is recommended to be successful in study: Basic literacy language (reading) and numeracy ability. Understand your way around basic computer functions and keyboard, using internet searches. Course duration Part-time or full time flexible study means you set the time and study goals. Units are required to be completed in the calendar year they were started. Competency based training Certificate II in Business is offered under the Business Services Training Package and is competency-based that is; - the ability to perform something to an agreed standard. Learning and assessment involves completion of activities, assignments and knowledge activities. To further enhance your skill level you should consider accessing voluntary work placement opportunities - talk with your teacher for more ideas on this. 3 Enrolment The enrolment process with TasTAFE requires the completion of several forms. This includes a career pathway plan and training subsidy form. You are also required to provide proof of identity and evidence of concession if applicable. The enrolment process will also include participating in a Literacy Language (reading) & Numeracy Skill Indicator Assessment. This requirement is designed to ensure you are able to access the most appropriate study and learning pathway to achieve your qualification goals. To enrol with TasTAFE, you must have a USI (the Australian Government requires all students to hold a unique student identifier (USI) - visit to create your USI. Once enrolled, you will be provided with a Username, Password and Course Induction allowing you to access on line course work. This process can take up to 48 hours. Enrolment Costs and Concessions applying in 2016 There are two levels of fees generally applying to students wishing to enrol. Standard fee (full fee paying) applies to those who do not have evidence of concession eligibility currently charged a standard fee of $2.08 per Unit nominal hour with fees capped at $1, for the 2016 calendar study year. Concession eligible students will have fees capped at $ for the 2016 calendar study year. A concession requires the student, or parent with a dependent student, to present one of the following: Pensioner Concession Card; (Includes PPS, CAR notation); Veterans Affairs Concession Card; Evidence verifying receipt of either Austudy/Abstudy or Youth Allowance Health Care Card. Concession fee cap does not apply to or include Unit Resource Fees. Upfront payment can be made by EFTPOS, credit card, cash or cheque. Alternative payment options by Instalment Plans can also be accessed. Fee Sponsorship may be applicable for fee payment through agreement with a relevant fee sponsor, such as a Job Network Agency, Further information on fee payment eligibility and options can be discussed with your enrolling teacher. Your Resources Flexible learning involves you allocating time to study rather than turning up to a physical class, you have choices in deciding when you switch into study mode and allocate time to study. A positive attitude to making that time happen will give you the greatest success in achieving. Online e-learning also requires access to:- a computer, - if using a laptop a separate keyboard & mouse is suggested a personal address and an internet connection and have Microsoft Office installed. TasTAFE can provide a daytime flexible learning environment with individual access to computers within the Libraries at regional campuses as an option. Page 3 of 9

4 Learning support from us to you Learning support is provided throughout the online course. A teacher/facilitator is available to assist you reaching your learning goals. You are expected to show some independence in your learning. Your Teacher is available to provide advice, but ultimately you are the one who needs to make time to complete your goals. Activities should have agreed deadlines for completion and it is your responsibility to ensure you meet these deadlines. Work Presentation Consider how you should present work to meet workplace standards. This means that work is to be wordprocessed, proof-read and formatted in a professional manner. Work involving the completion of forms and/or including calculations should be accurate, neat and legible. Assessment summary Assessment will include: Observation/Checklists from workplaces if relevant Completion of activity and assignment tasks Completion of project assessments to demonstrate your competency Assessment feedback Feedback may identify: Corrections required to demonstrate competency Missing work Re-assessment requirements (if any) Your final result Recommendations for future action (if relevant). You are provided with 3 attempts at assessment tasks, with feedback provided at each attempt. You will also be able to check your feedback with your teacher or through your on line course. Foundation Skills Foundation skills describe the language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that you may develop during your life through your education, training, work experience, interests and extra-curricular activities. The skills are:- Reading, Writing, Oral Communication, Navigate the world of work and Get the work done. These skills are embedded in your learning and assessment activities. Recognise Prior Learning If you have skills and experience to meet all the competencies of any units and can demonstration/document that competency, then you may apply for recognition of prior learning. 5 Units of Competency BSB20115 Certificate II in Business requires completion of twelve (12) units of competency, consisting of one (1) Core Unit, plus a minimum of seven (7) Specified Elective Units and up to four (4) Elective Units, a maximum of two (2) of these units may be selected from either a Certificate I or III qualification. If you wish to include units from other Training Packages, or you have studied units previously with a different Registered Training Organisation please talk with the Teacher/Facilitator at enrolment.
