1 SUNFLOWER ELECTRIC POWER CORPORATION RESPONSIBILITY OUTLINE Position Title Transmission Technician I Date May 2015 Department Transmission Engineering Pay Status Hourly Reports To Transmission Tech Services FLSA Category Nonexempt Supvr. Hays/Great Bend EEO Category 3 SUMMARY Assist with a variety of projects and perform substation construction planning and review, line design review, surveying, and drafting. Depending upon work assigned, incumbents will be required to perform some or all of the following responsibilities. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of senior department staff: Project Management Assist with coordinating, scheduling, facilitating procurement of materials, procuring and scheduling resources, sequencing stages, solving issues, and ensuring projects are completed on time and per specifications and coordinate with both consultants and internal resources from all departments. Project Inspection Assist with field inspecting projects to verify construction conforms to engineering design requirements and project specification standards. Substation Technical Support Provide assistance with blueprints, sepias, mylars, and other illustrations. Assist with gathering technical data on distribution and transmission systems. Provide assistance with preliminary layouts of substations and organize drawing sets for projects. Assist with performing preliminary design reviews to ensure they meet engineering design and drafting requirements for engineering staff approval. Transmission Line Technical Support Assist with performing preliminary design reviews from consultants to confirm that they meet engineering design requirements for engineering staff approval. Surveying Assist with performing surveying (using both total stations and global positioning systems), interrogating data, and applying and manipulating it to provide a clear and detailed drawing.

2 Drafting Perform drafting, as needed, to support other responsibilities. GIS/GPS Assist with Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and coordinate systems. Assist with manipulations and interpreting aerial imagery and applications relating to Google Earth. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Bachelor degree in engineering technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Engineering support/technical experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Able to gain knowledge to identify, understand, and apply basic legal descriptions, which includes mapping of easements or deeded properties to assist engineering, records, or legal. Able to learn to apply substation and transmission line design philosophies and electrical concepts. Must have good mathematical skills. Able to learn to operate various copiers, scanners, and blueprint machines. Able to learn to conduct Job Safety Orientations.

3 Able to learn basic identification of reclosers, capacitors, wire sizes, loading concepts, insulators, transformers, phasing, sag, pole class and length, relaying, load carrying capacities, and regulators. Able to learn to identify energized and de-energized systems and equipment. Able to learn to identify safety concerns and clearances. Able to learn and apply Geographical Information Systems (GIS), coordinate systems, Google Earth, and applications relating to Google Earth. Basic understanding of construction specifications and construction drawings. Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills at the level required to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position. Able to operate computers and associated programs, including AutoCad, MS Office programs and internal SharePoint sites, at the level required to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position. Other Must possess and maintain a valid driver s license. Able to travel to all Sunflower sites and attend training and meetings out of state as needed. Able to work outside of normal working hours as required, which may include weekends. Able to work in varying weather conditions, including stormy weather, wind, and rain. Able to drive a trailer.
