JOB POSTING FY 14/15 JULY 2, 2015 ELECTRICIAN #4695 UTILITY SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT This position is an Essential classification and will require you to report to duty before, during and after a civil emergency. POSITION SUMMARY: Semi-skilled and Skilled work at an apprentice level involving both rough and finished electrical work, troubleshooting electrical motor failures and electric circuitry preventative maintenance. THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by college courses (preferred). Prior utility experience preferred. Electrical training is required through IRSC Electrical Apprenticeship Program (or equal) to cover a period of four years. By the end of the documented four years, employee must pass the Journeyman s exam and obtain a Journeyman s s License within one year thereafter. A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. ADA PROFILE: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to work in close, confined spaces, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear, reach above shoulders, work overhead on ladders and platforms, use fingers and hands with dexterity, and feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must very frequently lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Summary Semi-skilled and Skilled work at an apprentice level involving both rough and finished electrical work, troubleshooting electrical motor failures and electric circuitry preventative maintenance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Installs, repairs and maintains electrical services in City-owned buildings/water & wastewater treatment facilities, including electrical outlets, lights, motors, relays, alternators, electrical equipment, starters, breakers, VFD s, transformers, etc. Regular and punctual attendance. Works with plant operators to understand plant processes. Assists in other instrumentation and control, and electrical maintenance operations. Troubleshoots and repairs process and control equipment. THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS. Ability to plan, lay out and perform electrical work of average difficulty. Ability to work from blueprints and/or sketches. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Mathematical Skills Strong ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute and apply rate, ratio, and percent and to draw to practical situations and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills 3
