1 Industrial and Systems Engineering Master f Science Prgram Data Analytics and Optimizatin Department f Integrated Systems Engineering The Ohi State University (Expected Duratin: 3 Semesters) Our sciety is underging a majr transfrmatin with the use f large-scale, diverse, and high-reslutin data sets that allw fr data-intensive decisin-making and ptimizatin. There is an imperative need fr data analytics means and methds fr using large data sets and cmputer mdels t drive business value, understand human relatinships, and imprve decisin-making. The pwerful cmbinatin f big data analytics with ptimizatin has been successfully demnstrated and will be increasingly needed in the management f: healthcare and transprtatin netwrks retail and financial decisin making supply chain and lgistics systems large scale infrmatin systems manufacturing peratins energy and smart grids scial netwrks. The ISE Masters Prgram in Data Analytics and Optimizatin is designed t prvide students with a strng backgrund in analytics, data science, cmputer science and ptimizatin methds. The track requires a sequence f curses in: cmputer science peratins research cgnitive engineering prbability and statistics Additinal electives are als recmmended in Business, Cmputer Science Engineering (CSE) and Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) and Statistics (STAT).

2 Students will be prepared in the use f critical tl sets necessary fr managing, visualizing, and extracting useful infrmatin frm big data, as well as pwerful skill sets such fr mdeling, simulatin, ptimizatin and decisin analysis in rder t supprt efficient data-driven decisin making. Admissin Requirements. Prir t admissin, students interested in admissin t this Masters Prgram shuld be prficient in the fllwing areas 1 : Vectr calculus Cmputer prgramming (e.g., C, C++, Java) Calculus-based prbability Prbability-based statistics Linear algebra Graduatin Requirements. All Analytics Graduate Students must satisfy degree requirements defined in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Graduate Student Handbk ( T cmplete the ISE Masters Prgram in Data Analytics and Optimizatin, students must cmplete a ttal f 36 graduate credit hurs. The curse wrk cnsists f: 12 semester hurs f ISE curses, 10 semester hurs f CSE curses, 4 semester hurs f STAT curses, and 3 semester hurs f Visual Analytics (in ttal 29 credit hurs) 2 semester hurs f ISE 7883 (Department Seminar) and ne 5000-level r higher ISE curse in manufacturing r human factrs, subject t apprval f the advisry cmmittee, in rder t meet the ISE secndary sub-discipline requirement. (in ttal 5 semester hurs ) A prject, exam r Masters thesis designed t meet the exit requirements f the Data Analytics and Optimizatin MS Prgram: 1. M.S. students can meet the exit requirement by 1) ding a Masters thesis (4 units); r 2) earning a B r higher in a r higher- level Analytics elective curse that is at least 2 units and has a prject requirement; r 3) passing the M.S. Exit Examinatin. 2. M.S. students wh are nt ding the thesis ptin and did nt receive a B r higher in a 5000-level Analytics elective curse with a prject requirement may instead take the M.S. Exit Examinatin. 3. The M.S. Exit Examinatin is administered annually during the week after Spring final examinatins have been cmpleted. Any ISE graduate student wh achieves an verall GPA (including all graduate curses taken at OSU) f 3.00 is eligible t take the exam. 1 Students withut evidence f this material n their transcripts will have t demnstrate prficiency with the subject matter. This can be accmplished via apprpriate cursewrk, at either the undergraduate r graduate level, t be determined in cnsultatin with the academic adviser.

3 M.S. Exit Examinatin fr ISE M.S. Analytics students M.S. students wh are nt ding the thesis ptin and did nt receive a B r higher in a 5000-level Analytics elective curse with a prject requirement may instead take the M.S. Exit Examinatin. The M.S. Exit Examinatin is administered annually during the week after Spring final cmplete. Any ISE graduate student wh achieves an verall GPA (including all curses taken at OSU) f 3.00 is eligible t take the exam. Thse students wh are planning t graduate in Fall shuld take the exam in the preceding Spring semester. The prcess t sign-up fr the exam will be annunced during Spring semester. Students intending t take the exam must sign-up befre the annunced deadline, s there is sufficient time t check that the grade eligibility requirement is satisfied. The intent f the exam is t verify that students are sufficiently well grunded in the fundamentals f OR. Fr example, the exam might cver the fllwing tpics: Optimizatin: Integer and Linear Prgramming Frmulatins and Slutin Methds; Linear Prgramming Thery and Duality; Cmplexity Thery; Cnvexity Stchastic Prcesses: Randm Variables; Prbability Distributins; Cnditinal Prbability and Expectatins; Randm Number Generatin; Simulatin Thery Statistics: Parametric and Nn-Parametric Hypthesis Testing; Distributin Fitting; Regressin After the exams have been cmpleted, the OR Faculty meet t discuss each student s perfrmance n the exam and perfrmance in classes taken. Based n this, the faculty determine whether each student has passed r failed the examinatin. A student wh has failed the examinatin, may be deemed eligible t retake it. Students wh are deemed eligible t retake the exam must d s the next time that it is ffered. N student will be eligible t take the exam mre than twice. Yu and yur advisr will discuss a viable plan f study, cmplete the ISE MS Plan f Study frm, and btain yur faculty advisr s signature. Yu shuld als sign the frm, and then seek an apprval signature frm the ISE Graduate Chair. A cpy f this frm shuld be prvided t the ISE Graduate Crdinatr t be placed in yur graduate file in the ISE main ffice (210 Baker Systems). It is als yur respnsibility t prvide a cpy f the ISE MS Plan f Study frm t yur faculty advisr. The Plan f Study must be apprved prir t registratin fr yur secnd semester f study. If any significant changes t yur Plan f Study are made as yu prgress thrugh yur prgram (e.g. substitute curses, change in primary r secndary sub-disciplines, etc.), it is yur respnsibility t seek frmal apprval f thse changes frm yur faculty advisr. This can be dne by writing-in the changes n the riginally submitted ISE MS Plan f Study frm, and btaining the faculty advisr s initials and date next t the changes. This frm als serves as a cnvenient checklist fr yu, yur faculty advisr, and the ISE Graduate Studies Chair t verify that all ISE MS prgram requirements have been met at the cmpletin f yur academic prgram. Yu shuld submit yur applicatin t graduate thrugh GradFrms.su.edu using yur OSU username t submit an Applicatin t Graduate. The deadline t apprve graduatin is the third Friday f the term (the applicatin t graduate deadline includes bth regular term and thse planning t use the End-f-Semester deadline); students shuld apply far enugh in advance t allw time fr bth the Faculty Advisr and the Graduate Studies Chair r Graduate Prgram Crdinatr t apprve the applicatin. Applicatin submissin at least tw weeks prir t the third Friday f the term is highly recmmended.
