8 2.4 GHz Spectrum Overvew GLX-D operates wthn the 2.4GHz SM band whch s utlzed by W-F, Bluetooth, and other wreless devces. The beneft of 2.4GHz s that t s a global band that can be used anywhere n the world, lcense free. Overcomng the Challenges of 2.4GHz The challenge of 2.4GHz s that W-F traffc can be unpredctable. GLX-D meets these challenges n the followng ways: Prortzes and transmts on the best 3 frequences per channel (choosng from a pool of 6 frequences across the 2.4GHz band) Repeats the most mportant nformaton such that one frequency can be taken out entrely wthout audo nterrupton Contnuously scans durng usage to rank all frequences (both current and backup frequences) Seamlessly moves away from nterference to backup frequences wthout audo nterrupton Coexstng wth W-F f you plan to use W-F durng a performance, turn on W-F devces pror to turnng on GLX-D and scannng for the best channel. GLX-D detects and avods other W-F traffc by scannng the entre 2.4GHz envronment and selectng the 3 best frequences to transmt on. The result of ths s relable performance for your GLX-D wreless system as well as avodng W-F transmssons whch may be mportant as well. Burstng W-F s harder to detect as t s perodc; however, because GLX-D repeats the most mportant nformaton, even bursts at very hgh-levels don t have an effect on your audo performance. Challengng Wreless Envronments Some envronments are more dffcult than others for 2.4 GHz wreless system performance. Addtonally, body absorpton has a greater mpact n the 2.4 GHz spectrum, compared to the UHF spectrum. The smplest soluton n many cases s to reduce the transmtter to recever dstance such as placng the recevers on the stage wth a clear lne of sght. Challengng envronments nclude: Areas wth few reflectve surfaces such as: Outdoors Buldngs wth very hgh celngs 3 or more GLX-D recevers n use Strong W-F presence Compettve 2.4 GHz systems n use Note: Unlke analog TV band wreless whch typcally uses the same type of transmssons across manufacturers, all 2.4GHz wreless currently on the market use dfferent varatons of wreless transmsson. These dfferences make t more dffcult to mx and match 2.4 GHz from multple manufacturers successfully, as can be done wth TV band wreless solutons. Tps and Methods to mprove Wreless System Performance f you encounter nterference or dropouts, try the followng suggestons: Scan for the best avalable channel (press the channel button). Reduce transmtter to recever dstance - for example, place recevers on stage wth a lne of sght to the front of the recever. Change the group for all GLX-D systems: Sngle-Chanel System: use Group 4, whch s optmzed for sngle-channel use Mult-Channel System: use Group 2, whch s the most robust wreless group Move recever further away from W-F access ponts, computers, or other actve 2.4 GHz sources. Recommended dstance s a mnmum of 3 meters (10 feet). Dsable non-crtcal W-F on computers, cell phones, and other portable devces f you plan to use W-F durng a performance, turn on W-F pror to turnng on GLX-D and scannng for the best channel. Keep the transmtter and recever more than 2 meters (6 feet) apart Avod heavy W-F traffc actvtes such as downloadng large fles or vewng a move. Locate compettve 2.4 GHz recevers away from each other Avod placng transmtter and recever where metal or other dense materals may be present Move the recever to the top of the equpment rack Keep transmtters more than 2 meters (6 feet) apart - ths s less crtcal at shorter recever to transmtter dstances Note: f transmtters are wthn 6 nches of non-glxd transmtters or mcrophone cartrdges, audble nose s possble. Durng sound check, mark trouble spots and ask presenters or performers to avod those areas f there s a known strong source of W-F and you specfcally want to use frequences wthn that W-F channel, use the followng Group/Channel of GLX-D (best opton lsted frst): W-F 1: Group 3/Channel 8, Group 3/Channel 4 W-F 6: Group 3/Channel 7, Group 3/Channel 5 W-F 11: Group 3/Channel 2, Group 3/Channel 1 8
