1 Director and Committee member Application Threads Fashion Show 2016 Director/Committee Roles and Responsibilities All applicants must enroll in the AMD 357 course in the Spring Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30-7:50pm and allow time to work on projects or meet with people outside of class time. This class is where Directors will meet and work with their committee members to develop the best projects and ultimately work together with all other members of the class and the producers to execute the best Fashion Show. Directors: Responsible for learning and demonstrating the management skills involved in the production of an industry- oriented fashion show. Although Directors are interviewed for specific positions, all Directors are expected to assist with all aspects of the fashion show. Serving as a director requires a lot of time dedication, and perseverance. Once selected Directors will meet with the Producers in the Fall and begin work. All Directors are responsible for developing worthwhile projects with their committee members. Committee Members: Responsible for working with the other committee members in their group and for respecting the leadership and vision of their committee director and the Threads Producers. Committee members must be willing and excited to work, this is not going to be a class you can slack off in. This is a class to help you develop as a person and as a professional Committees: Venue Atmosphere Mounted Exhibition Promotions Special Events Sponsorship Hospitality Model Management Submissions
2 Description of Committee Roles and Skill Requirements Skill Requirements for All Positions Enthusiasm and self- motivation Attention to detail Organizational skills Time management skills Professionalism Positive attitude and stress management skills Ability to work within a budget Dedication and love for CMU s Threads Fashion Show Willingness to learn, grow and be pushed to be better Mounted Exhibition Design and develop layout plan for mounted exhibition Work with Submissions committee to organize layout and placement of mounted exhibition pieces Work with Submissions committee on Judging day to display all of the mounted submissions for easy review Come up with creative ideas for an inviting exhibition atmosphere Plan and arrange red- carpet photography at fashion show Work closely with the Venue Atmosphere committee to make the entire event cohesive Work with Vendors to incorporate advertising Visual merchandising skills Creative thinking skills Ability to give and receive constructive criticism Spatial reasoning skills Communication skills Teamwork and delegation Understanding of brand management Venue Atmosphere Develop and propose ideas for the show set Serve as set crew to implement show design Ensure communication is clear with University Events on what is needed Develop lighting and sound design Ensure that the overall feeling of the entire event is cohesive and inviting Budget and keep track of costs for set design Help with tear down of set after the show

Organize and direct special guest arrangements Able to keep things running smooth and accommodate any needs by directors, designers, models, and anyone involved in the production. Backstage for entire fashion show Able to work within a budget Professionalism Good communication skills Ability to stay organized Physical ability to transport food or necessary items Excellent teamwork Problem solving and decision making skills Promotions Team 2015 Model Management Develop and lead model informational meeting in the fall and an official model call in the spring Select make- up artists and hair designers for the show Propose choices for the class to decide the model hair and makeup Schedule trial makeup sessions with hair and makeup artists Organize and run modeling practices Work with Submissions committee to organize fit night Create and teach model choreography Offer constructive feedback to models Prior experience as a model (NOTE: applicants may be considered for this position without this experience) Teaching ability with concepts ranging from simple to complex Public speaking ability Ability to manage large groups of people Ability to give and receive constructive criticism Ability to work in a team
4 Sponsorship Committee Create fashion show awards and find sponsors to fund them Organize advertisement selling process for business ads in the program Arrange sponsorship for guest judges and guest designer accommodations Keep a detailed record of the budget for the fashion show Professional communication skills Interest in community outreach Fiscal responsibility Teamwork and delegation abilities Familiarity with local businesses Submissions Responsibilities: Organize and develop a system for the juried submissions Organize and direct the Judging Day Make arrangements for judges including itinerary and travel arrangements while they are here Develop efficient system for garment organization and mounted submissions Collaborate with producers to select the order of garments in the show Develop the content (list of designers, piece, image) which will go into the media presentation. Collaborate with Visual Media team. Responsible for handling and care of every entry from when they are turned in to when they are given back to the designer. Backstage for entire fashion show Knowledge of garment handling skills- ability to teach skills to others Ability to communicate negative messages to those who are not accepted Problem solving and decision making skills Physical ability to transport garments and dress forms Excellent teamwork and communication skills Marketing Committee Promote and market the fashion show in all outlets
5 Distribute posters and other marketing materials Work with all other teams to determine what marketing materials are needed Submit ads and write- ups to the local newspapers for publication Utilize Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media networks to publicize and create excitement for the fashion show Proficient with multiple media platforms Familiar with social media best practices Proficient with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign Professional communication skills- - strong grammar and technical writing abilities Teamwork and team communication skills Innovative and collaborative thinking skills Special Events Committee Organize events to promote and financially support the fashion show Think creatively to collaborate with other committees or RSO s on campus Organize the annual Resale event Develop a calendar of events for the Spring Semester Assist with the planning and implementation of Behind the Curtain event, Friday Event Planning experience or major/minor in Event Management Time management skills Delegation and organizational skills People management skills Teamwork and delegation abilities
