1 Position Description The New Student Orientation Program will select a group of dedicated leaders who are current Schoolcraft students to directly work with incoming students and family members. Orientation leaders are enthusiastic, energetic, passionate about Schoolcraft College, and excited to share their knowledge with incoming students and their families. Orientation Leaders are expected to know specific information about the College acquired through training and experience and must be able to share this information with Orientation participants. Selection to the Orientation Team is a great honor and is also a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth. Minimum Qualifications Schoolcraft College cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above Be currently enrolled for 6+ credit hours for the Fall 2013 and Winter semesters Must meet standard academic progress (Schoolcraft College Academic Progress Policy in the College Catalog, page 200) Must demonstrate excellent leadership, flexibility, and problem solving skills Must exhibit strong communication skills Ability to work with effectively with a diverse group of team members, students and parents Must demonstrate a positive attitude, high energy level, knowledge and enthusiasm for Schoolcraft College Orientation shifts will be the following days: March 4-May 28 May 28-August 13 Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 2-8 pm Wednesdays from 2-8 pm and Fridays from 8 am-2 pm You must be available at least one of the above weekdays for eligibility for the OL position. Roles and Responsibilities Attend the mandatory Orientation Training sessions and be an active participant throughout all Orientation activities Serve as a positive representative of Schoolcraft College to new students and their guests Promote interaction among new students during small group discussions, ice breakers, snacks and activities Give campus tours and have extensive knowledge in Schoolcraft College resources and class registration in Web Advisor (training will be provided) Provide support for the program, including preparation of Orientation materials, event set up and clean up Make phone calls to invite new students to Orientation Mandatory Meetings Will occur on Fridays if there is no Orientation event scheduled

2 Terms and Conditions of Employment Training: s must be present and on time without exception for all scheduled training sessions, work schedules, and team meetings. Mandatory Training Sessions Fridays; February 7th, 14th, 21st and March 7th from 9 am- 12 pm. Mandatory Meetings Will occur on Wednesdays or Fridays when there is no Orientation event scheduled. Orientation Programs: s are expected work their full shift. Compensation: $7.40/hour first semester of work; $8.00/hour each semester after shirts Snacks provided during Training and each Orientation Program Fun opportunity to meet other students and learn more about your college Selection Process Overview STEP 1: Confirm that all mandatory dates and times work for your schedule. We will be relying on the s attendance for each training, meeting, and orientation. If you are unavailable during the specified times above, you will not be eligible to apply. STEP 2: Complete the application and essay questions Please be clear and concise in your written responses. The application and essay questions are designed to better inform us about an applicant s background, leadership experience, academics and motivation for wanting to be an. STEP 3: Individual interview (pending invitation) A select number of applicants will be invited for an individual interview. Individual interviews will be conducted by the Orientation staff and are designed to give further insight regarding candidates experiences, qualifications and understanding of the College and the role.
