Object Wizards/Editrs Yu can nw create and edit bjects f the fllwing types: check cnstraints, dmains, exclusin cnstraints, freign keys, functins, indexes, primary keys, rles, rules, schemas, tables, tablespaces, triggers, unique keys, and views. Refresh Materialized View Object Actin A new Refresh Materialized View actin is available against views created using the CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW statement. It lets yu build and submit a REFRESH MATERIALIZED VIEW statement. Simple default behavir replaces the cntents f a materialized view. 5 Datasurce Explrer Perfrmance Nde A Perfrmance nde is nw available in the Datasurce Explrer. As with ther DBMS platfrms, the PstgreSQL Perfrmance nde has Lcks and Prcesses subndes. A Prepared Transactins subnde prvides details n transactins that have been prepared fr tw-phase cmmit. The new Server > Lgs nde prvides access t lgfiles. A Rtate Lg actin signals the lg-file manager t immediately switch t use f a new utput file. PstgreSQL Utilities Data and Schema Utilities The fllwing Utilities menu features are nw available against PstgreSQL datasurces: Database Mnitr prvides details n lcks, prcesses, and prepared transactins. Data Lad lets yu lad data frm a file. Embarcader Technlgies 5

6 Data Unlad lets yu generate a pgadmin exprt data call, dumping database data t a file. Database Backup generates a pg_dump script, backing up ne r mre tables r views f a database. Database Restre generates a pg_restre peratin, restring tables r view data frm a previus backup. Schema Extractin walks yu thrugh the prcess f building an extractin script, executing it fr strage f the database r bject schema in a file. Schema Migratin migrates schema and table data frm ne DBMS platfrm t anther. Schema Publicatin lets yu generate HTML reprts dcumenting the details f yur schema, databases, and database bjects. Reverse Engineering lets yu analyze, cntrl, and dcument existing database bjects. Database Mnitr DBArtisan nw ffers the Database Mnitr against PstgreSQL datasurces. Similar t Database Mnitr fr ther DBMS platfrms, Lcks and Prcesses tabs are available in the Data base Mnitr. A new Prepared Transactins tab is als available against PstgreSQL datasurces. It displays identificatin details fr transactins that have been prepared fr tw-phase cmmit. The fllwing pg_prepared_xacts table clumns are displayed fr each transactin: transactin ID, glbal ID, date and time that the PREPARE TRANSACTION statement was executed, and the wner and database assciated with the transactin. When this tab is active, the tlbar lets yu Cmmit and Rllback a selected transactin. PstgreSQL Tls Menu Updates The fllwing Tls menu features are nw available against PstgreSQL datasurces: Database Search lets yu search fr bjects whse DDL cntains a specified character string, acrss multiple databases. Query Builder lets yu cnstruct, structure, and manipulate queries using a graphical interface. Data Editr lets yu edit table data in real time. Embarcader Technlgies 6

7 PstgreSQL Updates t the SQL Editr The Paste SQL Syntax and Paste SQL Statement features are nw available against PstgreSQL datasurces. Welcme Windw The Welcme Windw helps custmers t get infrmatin abut prduct features, news and upcming events. This windw als includes direct links t useful DBArtisan features like New Prject, Open Prject r links t Recent Datasurces. Prject Management, Versin Cntrl, and Script Library DBArtisan Prject Management Supprt DBArtisan prject management facilities act as a repsitry t maintain all surce cde fr a database prject. When yu create a new prject (File > New > Prject), yu can initialize the prject using ne f fur methds: Frm an existing database Frm ne r mre files (SQL/query scripts, DDL files, ER/Studi files, prcedures, Java, Javascript r VB Script files, r text r HTML files) Frm a versin cntrl prject Uninitialized. 8 In additin t basic prject peratins (New, Open, Clse), Prject menu and right-click ptins prvide basic file and flder ptins. Other key ptins let yu Specify a build rder fr yur prject scripts Execute the build. DBArtisan Versin Cntrl Supprt The Prject menu als prvides access t versin cntrl supprt, als new fr this release f DBArtisan. Basic versin cntrl functins are prvided: Get Latest Versin, Check In, Check Out, Und Check Out, Add t/remve Frm Versin Cntrl, Shw Histry, Shw Differences, Versin Cntrl Prperties, Share Frm Versin Cntrl, and Refresh Status. 9 Supprt is prvided fr any surce cntrl prduct that uses the MSSCCI plug-in interface. Script Library Nte: Fr the 64-bit versin f DBArtisan, a 32-bir versin f the MSSCCI prvider can be used fr versin cntrl access. The feature is cntrlled fr the Optins Editr's Versin Cntrl tab (File > Optins > General > Versin Cntrl). The Script Library (View > Script Library) prvides a drag-and-drp library interface f all supprted DBMS syntax, SQL syntax, built-in functins, ptimizer hits, and SQL-cnditinal syntax. Additinally, it prvides the ability t create custm flders t stre cmmnly-used cde fr quick and efficient access r executin, as needed. Datasurce Registratin Updates Fr cnnectivity purpses, DBArtisan is packaged with a native driver as well as a set f ne r mre JDBC drivers fr each DBMS platfrm. In previus releases, the native driver fr each platfrm was the default cnnectin ptin when registering a datasurce. This release intrduces tw enhancements: Yu can nw designate ne f the JDBC drivers as the default cnnectivity ptin fr a DBMS platfrm. Yu can universally change the definitin fr all existing, currently uncnnected datasurces fr a platfrm t use either the native driver r a JDBC driver as the cnnectin ptin. Embarcader Technlgies 9

10 In the Optins Editr, the Cnnectins page nw has a tab crrespnding t each supprted DBMS platfrm. The Default Driver Selectin grup f settings prvides the new functins. Fr DBMS platfrms with a native driver and ne r mre JDBC drivers packaged, the Cnnect using... and JDBC driver t use cntrls enable selectin f a JDBC driver as the default cnnectin ptin and let yu select a JDBC driver. The Assign t all discnnected Datasurces cntrl assigns the selected JDBC driver as the cnnectin ptin fr all discnnected datasurces fr the current platfrm, if the Cnnect using... cntrl is selected. Otherwise it assigns the native driver as the cnnectin ptin fr all discnnected datasurces fr the current DBMS platfrm Trace File Lgging Optins As a new diagnstic tl, yu can nw generate a trace file cnsisting f the sequence f Lgging page nw lets yu activate and deactivate, specify a lcatin fr, and select a severity level f messages lgged. In descending rder f severity (and ascending rder f ttal messages lgged), Trace Level ptins are Fatal Errrs, Errrs, Warning, Inf, Debug, Trace, and Max. DBMS Platfrm Updates The fllwing tpics describe DBMS platfrm and versin updates fr this release. Sybase IQ 16 - Functinality available fr previus Sybase IQ releases is nw available against Sybase IQ 16 datasurces. Apache Hive - This release presents a technical preview f Apache Hive supprt. As with ther technical previews, minimal functinality is prvided. Features include datasurce registratin and cnnectin, a minimal Navigatr/Explrer tree, and a minimal set f bject management features. 11 Explrer and Database Mnitr Updates Imprved numeric clumn filtering in Explrer and Database Mnitr. Users can nw filter numeric clumns by using peratrs (>,=,<,<=,>=). When n peratr is used, >= is assumed. ISQL Windws Backup Fr Windws Vista and higher, the aut save feature f DBArtisan is nw cnnected t the Restart Manager. Als, unlike the previus versin ( Windws XP) all mdified ISQL windws will have a backup saved at a regular interval, even thse ISQL windws that d nt have a file name assciated with them. In the event f a crash, thse ISQL windws will autmatically pen up n the next restart. If the Restart Manager is able t detect the crash, it will attempt t autmatically restart the applicatin fr yu. On Windws XP, this feature will functin as it did in past versins. Cnnectivity Imprvement Cnnectivity has been imprved t have a central lcatin in the ptins page t set the driver fr all datasurces f a certain type t use. An individual datasurce can verride this setting, but by default all datasurces will bey the glbal setting. N lnger will custmers have t change each individual datasurce if they want t use a particular driver fr their system. Perfrmance Analyst fr SQL Server Imprvements Perfrmance Analyst imprves the space usage functinalities adding infrmatin abut the database and bject that are taking up the mst space n the system. Java Update DBArtisan has updated t Java 1.7. Imprved Multi-Mnitr Supprt Users can nw detach any MDI tab frm the main applicatin windw.
