2 Welcome from Councillor Steve Hynes WELCOME WELCOME I am pleased to introduce the Ealing Adult Learning Service Guide. Inside you will find a range of courses to inspire you to learn something new, develop your skills and potential as well as be more creative. If you want to brush up your maths, English or computer skills and find a way back into learning or employment; learn a foreign language or polish your artistic skills, there should be something exciting waiting for you in the EAL Course Guide. Our courses take place during the day, evenings and some weekends in community venues across the borough. I encourage you to make this your year to find a course near you. 4 INFORMATION 4 How to Enrol Choose a course Browse through the Ealing Adult Learning (EAL) course guide and select a suitable course for you, making a note of the course title and the course code. Enrolment and payment Online: This is the quickest way to enrol for non qualification courses: * Pay for your course online via debit / credit card (we are unable to accept American Express). Payment by debit card is free and payment by credit card will incur a charge. Post: Please fill out the enrolment form available on request or online and send to: Adult Learning, Perceval House, Uxbridge Road, Ealing, W5 2HL If you have enrolled by post you can pay by cash or card using our cash machines at Perceval house. Please note we no longer accept cheque payments. By appointment: Please contact us to book an appointment to show proof of concession - except over 65s. Appointments are available Mon - Wed 10am -12pm, term time only. Standard Fee This is the standard fee rate that you should expect to pay as a learner. Concessionary Fee This is the fee that you pay if you are over 65 or in receipt of a means tested benefit. Concessions When enrolling online or by post, you must provide current evidence of your entitlement each time you enrol. This should be dated within 3 months of the course start date. You may also be entitled to concessions if you are taking a qualification to gain employment. You can claim a concession if you are in receipt of any of the following: Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) Employment Support Allowance (ESA) Universal Credit Council Tax Support Housing Benefit Income Support Working Tax Credit Guaranteed Pension Credit The unwaged dependants (as defined by the Department for Work and Pensions) of those listed above. Course confirmation Your place will be reserved once you have completed the enrolment process. Places will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Once enrolled you will receive the Learner Guide and your course outline.

5 International / Opt out fee This is the fee if you have not lived in Europe or the UK for past three years. Please contact the EAL team for more details. 24+ Advanced Learning Loans If you re starting a Level 3 or 4 course and aged 24 or over, you may qualify for a government funded loan. These loans help you to pay the fees charged by approved colleges and training organisations in England. Most Learners aged 24 and over, studying at Level 3 or Level 4, will qualify for these new loans from the UK government. It s easy to apply, your household income isn t taken into account and there s no credit check. You won t have to pay anything back until 2016 and only if your income is over 21,000 a year. For more information visit nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/ advancedlearningloans *Other/Additional Fees: Learning materials required for courses are the responsibility of the learner. A list of items (or a price indication) will be provided on the Course Outline specifying what may be required for the first session. More detailed information for the whole course will be given by the tutor during the first lesson. In some cases where the materials and equipment required may be extensive, purchase of items may be impractical for learners, and the tutor may purchase these in bulk. In this case the cost per learner will be stated in the course outline and payment for materials should be made direct to the tutor in the first lesson. For other certificated courses (which includes costs for handbook, registration and certification), learners may be required to make the payment at the time of enrolment or to the tutor on the first day. We advise all learners to check the course outline or with EAL staff, at the time of enrolment, whether additional fees apply. Refund Policy We cannot give refunds if changes in your circumstances prevent you from attending, unless there is a medical reason and it is supported with a doctor s letter. Where a course is closed prior to the start, tuition fees will be refunded in full if an alternative course cannot be attended. Where the course is closed due to low numbers tuition fees will be refunded. Once the course is up and running there are occasions such as tutor illness etc. where disruption to learning is beyond the control of the EAL service, and it may be necessary to extend course sessions or course length. In these circumstances the tutor will negotiate a suitable alternative for all learners. If the outcome of this negotiation reduces the learner numbers below a viable level for delivery we reserve the right to cancel the course and a pro rata refund will be given. If there are insufficient learners (minimum 10) on a course we reserve the right to cancel or close it and will provide a pro-rata refund. Examination and registration fees are only refundable on courses which have been closed by EAL. Disclaimers: All courses include a 5.00 non-refundable registration fee. The fees payable are those at the time of enrolment, which may supersede any that may previously have been advertised. Please note fees may change at short notice due to circumstances beyond our control. 30 HOPE AND WELLBEING PILOT Ealing Adult Learning is working in partnership with West London Mental Health Trust and other local providers to offer an educational approach to help adults recover from mild to moderate mental health issues, such as, depression, stress, anxiety and sleep disorders. The courses will be delivered in the community and will help you to gain a better understanding of your experience, while developing practical skills to manage these issues. Courses vary from one off workshops to those that run for a number of weeks.
