2 1. Introduction I m really pleased to present you with our 2015/16 Adult Learning Prospectus. Getting involved in Adult Learning is a great way to meet new friends, learn new skills, and support you in developing your career. We have a wide range of subjects on offer this year so please take time to browse our Prospectus to see what sparks your interest! However, if you would like any further information about any of our courses then please give us a call or drop in to one of our enrolment days, where we will be happy to talk through your options in more detail. Halton s Adult Learning Team provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment and we welcome all individuals and skills levels. I look forward to seeing you in class very soon! Are you looking for careers advice to help find out about access to training to enhance your skills? Are you seeking guidance on the work options available to you? Do you need practical job search support such as CV drafting, interview tips and advice on how to gain the job you want? To make an appointment to receive one to one advice with a qualified advisor please contact National Careers Service by calling Appointments are available in Runcorn and Widnes and can be arranged at a time and date convenient to you. 3 2. Benefits of Adult Learning Of course, joining an Adult Learning course will present you with new knowledge and skills, but it can also provide a whole host of other benefits for you. Adult Learning Supports the development of work-related skills Contributes to personal and community health and well-being Provides the opportunity to develop friendships Contributes to personal fulfilment and increased self-confidence Provides intellectual, creative or physical stimulation Can be an important stepping stone to further learning and a more skilled future We always ask our learners what they think of the courses they attended - here s what some of them said: The courses were excellent- my tutors were very encouraging I really enjoyed practising my new skills I would like to work my way up through the range of computer courses available Help is always there when I need it Maths will no longer be a frightening experience when it comes to helping with homework... Find Out How To Enrol To enrol on our courses, you ll need to attend a short induction session at one of our Learning Centres, where you will receive specialist advice to help you choose the right course for you. You may also be offered assessments before enrolments. For more information, please call where one of our team will be happy to help you. 4 4. What Kind Of Support Is Available For Me? Specialist staff can provide support with Maths, English and IT. We offer a range of support for learners with visual and hearing impairments, dyslexia and physical support needs, including the use of assistive technologies. The support takes place in a variety of settings, from the classroom to individual one-to-one discussions with your tutor. Learning Facilities Our main Learning Centres are fitted with the latest equipment including high quality learning resources, interactive whiteboards, data projectors and computers. In addition, our main centres have height adjustable tables installed and disabled access toilet facilities. Refreshment facilities are available in the centres. Progression Opportunities At the end of each course our tutors offer guidance on progression opportunities available, these can include: Access to information, advice and guidance through the National Careers Service Advice on community volunteering Links with Jobcentre Plus Signposting to FE courses with local colleges Information on other courses Advice on employment options 4

5 6. Fees Courses in Maths, English, Family Learning and Employability Skills are free. All other courses have fees attached, but you may be entitled to fee remission depending on your circumstances and the type of course you wish to attend. All course fees should be paid in full at enrolment by cash or cheque (supported by a valid banker s card). If your employer is paying for your course fees, you must bring a letter of authorisation from which we will issue an invoice direct to your employer for payment. Please bring proof of identification to enrolment, and if you are entitled to fee remission, you must provide the relevant evidence when you enrol. FEE REMISSION ENTITLEMENT To check eligibility for fee remission, please see table below. Please note, fee remission may not apply for workshops, call for details. 9 Sept - Dec 2015 An additional charge of 7.20 is required for anyone attending the Decorating Cupcakes or the Vintage Cupcake course. This is to cover the cost of the Cupcakes. If you would prefer to make you own, there will be no additional charge. Please note that all courses are subject to change throughout the term. We reserve the right to amend our timetables in accordance with demand. Please call for details. Family Learning Courses Family Learning courses are for parents/carers only and can be adapted to support children at any Key Stage. If you would like to attend one of these courses, please call for details of your nearest venue. Family Learning School Based Courses Family Learning school based courses are for parents to work alongside their children to work alongside their children, or learn about their children s development. All schools are eligible to receive this free of charge so if you think your school might want to host a course, please contact Children s Centre Courses At our Children s Centres we offer a wide variety of courses including Help your Child with English, Learning Together, Creative IT, Confident You!, Early Years Foundation Stage, Cake Decorating, Story Sacks, Keep your Child Healthy & Safe and So You Want to Work in Care?. To qualify for a place on a Children s Centre course, you need to have or care for a child under 19 years.
