4 The City Apprenticeship Programme Apprenticeships in the City An Apprenticeship is a training programme which mixes real work with training. Apprentices are employed by a company, earning a wage and gaining experience whilst learning the practical skills needed for their job. The length of an Apprenticeship depends upon the degree of specialist skills that the Apprentice is required to learn: a Business Administration Apprentice can be achieved within 12 months, but a Surveying Apprentice takes two years to be trained. Apprenticeships Good for Business Apprenticeships are good for business: 80% of employers who employ Apprentices currently agree they make the workplace more productive and 81% of consumers favour a company that takes them on. Not only are Apprentices good for business but they ensure trained, hard working staff are prepared for the real world of business now and for the future. What does the City Apprenticeship programme offer employers? In addition to covering the costs of training, our service is able to offer employers a package that includes: Advertising the vacancy Initial screening of candidates An Induction and ongoing mentoring support Training the Apprentices on a day-release basis Teaching Literacy and Numeracy skills where needed Assessing Apprentices progress.
