The front desk is open for transactions between 9am-3pm Monday through Friday. Cash and check payments are accepted. No drop-ins. Entire fee is due when registering for class. This class requires online registration. Chair Strength Training Monday & Wednesday 11:15am - 12noon Instructor: Shememe Williams Exercises are done seated and standing depending on physical endurance. Exercise video when teacher is. CASSA Chinese Folk Dance Tuesday 1pm - 3pm Come learn and experience Chinese folk dancing. Also, Ballroom dance once a month. Chinese Folk Dance Tuesday & Wednesday 10am - 11am Instructor: Ming Shan Come learn and experience Chinese folk dancing to Chinese inspired music. Full Body Stretch Monday 10:15am - 11am Instructor: Shememe Williams 45 minute full body stretch class created to target muscles and to relieve all stress and stiffness in your body. Your muscles will thank you. Class is performed lying down and standing. Meditation Wednesday 2pm - 4pm (Instructor Guided) Friday 2pm - 4pm (Self-Guided) Instructor: Chuan Truong Relax with guided meditation. Bring a pillow/cushion, yoga mat and water. Pickleball Thursday 10:30am - 12:30 pm This game is the fastest growing sport in America. Pickleball is a cross between badminton, tennis, and ping-pong. Permission form needed is located at our front desk to be filled out by your physician. Bring your equipment. Soul Line Dance * Thursday 9:45am - 11am Session 1: $18 (6 classes) Session 2: $18 (6 classes) Instructor: Peytrienne McCormick Groove to soulful music while Soul Line Dancing step by step and energizing your body. 5 SPECIAL EVENTS Stroke Awareness Event Thursday, May 5 th 1pm - 2pm Provided by Washington Adventist Hospital This event is held in honor of Stroke Awareness month. We will have a presentation that will educate you on what signs to look for and ways to prevent having a stroke. Soul Line Dance Party Every 2 nd Friday of the month 6pm - 9pm Come socialize, dance, and learn the newest dances. $5.00 per person. Pay at the door. Friday, May 13 th Friday, June 10 th Friday, July 8 th National Senior Health & Fitness Day Wellness Fair! Wednesday, May 25 th 10am - 2pm There will be over 40 vendors to help you succeed on your way to wellness. We will have stress, skin, and health screenings, body fat analyses, give-a-ways, mobile dentist, health lectures, food demonstrations, and much more! White Oak Day! Saturday, June 4 th 11am - 2pm Enjoy entertainment, food, games, and fun for all ages. This intergenerational event allows us to bring the community together to serve a purpose of valuing one another. Seniorita Sunshine Is Back! Tuesday, July 5 th 1:00pm 2:00pm Come enjoy a live show of singing and dancing with Seniorita Sunshine. TRIP * Hairspray at Toby s Dinner Theater Wednesday, June 22 nd 10am - 4pm See the Broadway musical Hairspray at Toby s Dinner Theater in Columbia, Md., while enjoying a full course meal. You will not be disappointed! Total Cost: $60.45, if riding bus ($48.45 per person + $12 for the bus) Full Payment due by Friday, May 20 Pay separately for the bus. 19 seats available. AARP Driver Safety Course Wednesday, July 27 th 10am - 3pm Please arrive by 9:45 for administrative matters. The classroom course is $15 for AARP members (bring membership card) and $20 for nonmembers. Checks are payable to AARP the day of the class. Feel free to bring bottled water and a light snack. You may pay at the center in person or call to register. Maximum class size is 25. TRIP * Super Senior Bingo Lunch Cruise Thursday, August 11 th 10:15am - 3:30pm Join us for a 2- hour cruise with an ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET on the Spirit of Washington cruise boat. We cruise from 12pm 2 pm, then return to the center by 3:30pm. Total Cost: $76.00, if riding bus ($64 per person + $12 for the bus) Deposit of $32 due by Friday, May 27 Balance of $32 due by Thursday, June 30 Pay separately for the bus. 20 seats available. 7 SHORT STOPS: Daily Shopping Trips Need to go shopping? We will take you to nearby local stores for your leisure! Must sign up at least 1 day in advance. Only 20 seats available. FRIDAYS 9:30am - 11:45am White Oak Shopping Center (Sears, Giant, Walgreens, etc.) Tech Road Shopping Center (I-Hop, TGI Fridays, Chick-Fil-A, etc.) Downtown Silver Spring (Whole Foods, Michael s, Ross, TJ Maxx, etc.) MINI TRIPS GENERAL INFORMATION Senior Nutrition Program Monday through Friday 12 noon Mix n mingle, and enjoy a healthy meal for persons age 60 or older, or a spouse of any age. A voluntary contribution is requested. Guests (including caretakers) under age 60 must pay full cost. The full cost of the meal is $5.49. Please make or cancel your reservations for lunch at White Oak Senior Center by noon a day in advance. 8 White Oak Senior Center Transportation Service... Just For You! Monday through Friday Morning Pick Up and Afternoon Drop Off Limited service is provided within a 5 mile radius of the center. Buses are wheelchair, walker and cane accessible. Spend some time with us-take a class or two, have a little lunch and head back home! Pickup locations are determined by addresses of participants. Our listing is located at the Senior Center front desk. We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our programs. If you have a desire to improve our program and would like to render your services, we would love your help. We are looking for people to answer the phones, help greet our members, help set up for events, and help create programs of interest. If you have an interest and would love to teach a class, workshop, or seminar on something that you have experience or knowledge in, please let us know. We are looking for ideas and welcome our members to share their gifts. WHITE OAK SENIOR CENTER STAFF Inclement Weather Policy When Montgomery County Public Schools are closed, all senior classes and programs, including lunch, will be CANCELLED. If Montgomery County Public Schools have a delayed opening, all classes or events scheduled to begin before 10:00 a.m. will be cancelled. The Center will open at 10:00 and lunch will not be served. During inclement weather, please listen to your radio (WTOP FM) or television news for possible school closings or delayed openings. If in doubt, please call the Center at for further information. Please keep in mind that staff members may not be able to get to the Center because of dangerous conditions. Senior with disabilities are encouraged to participate in senior programs. Montgomery County Government is committed to complying with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you need auxiliary aids or services in order to participate, call /TTY , at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the activity.
