2 WELCOME TO THE MS 177 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM Questions? us at or call x1580 We are pleased to offer this Spring 2015 Catalog, with a variety of fun and exciting classes for the children of MS 177. Our classes are offered as enrichment programs to enhance our children s academic experience. We ve included a selection of classes designed to strike the curiosity of children and parents alike. This program is designed to grow as MS 177 grows. Children enrolled in the program are supervised before and after classes, by our highly competent after school supervisors, who ensure your children are safe and comfortable. A snack is provided to all children before classes begin. We try to provide a nut-free snack, and you are welcome to send snacks to school, with your children. Most classes prepare an end-of-semester program for family and friends, where you will enjoy seeing your children in action! Please review these guidelines with your child so they may enjoy the after-school program. All children should: respect others, their space and their property, cooperate with Supervisors and Instructors, remain at their designated table during snack and while waiting for instructors to take them to class, remain with their instructors during classes, until a parent/guardian signs them out at pick-up. Unacceptable behaviors include using profanity, disrespecting others and their space, failure to comply with directions, excessive horseplay, and inappropriate or violent physical contact. The MS 177 After School program may report incidents of unacceptable behavior to the parents/guardians of all children involved. We reserve the right to remove a child from the program for unacceptable behavior.

3 POLICIES & PROCEDURES Questions? us at or call x1580 Check-in and Attendance At school dismissal, children enrolled in classes will be escorted to the small cafeteria by their classroom teacher(s). Our Supervisors will provide a snack and take attendance. Students are welcome to bring their own snack too. If you know your child will be absent, please call us in advance. At 3:30pm, instructors will escort the children from the small cafeteria to the classroom. Dismissal and Pick-Up Dismissal is 5:00pm. Extended Day Dismissal is 5:45pm. All classes end at 5pm, at which time, the instructors will bring the children back to the small cafeteria. If your child is enrolled in Extended Day, he/she will remain in the small cafeteria with the supervisors. Parents/Guardians should enter through the school s main entrance and go directly to the small cafeteria to meet your child(ren) and sign them out with their instructor. Once you have your child(ren), please vacate the school immediately through the door on York Avenue. We cannot release your child to anyone without parental consent. Please include all acceptable pick-up parties when registering your child. If your child will leave school on their own, please fill out the Independent Walker form in the PS 158 PA office. Absence Please or call the Hotline, (club158@ps158.org or x1580) to report your child absent. We cannot refund for missed classes and no make-up classes are offered. Schedule & Holidays Spring Semester: September 15, 2014 through February 13, 2015 The After School Program is closed on the following dates: February 16 th -20 th, April 3 rd -10 th, May 25 th, June 4 th. Please note, CLUB is not in session on any half days or days when school is closed due to inclement weather. We are unable to offer make-up classes or refunds for classes cancelled due to holidays, half days or inclement weather. Refund & Cancellation Policy 100% of the tuition will be refunded if you withdraw the student AND notify us, in writing, by Monday, February 23, 2015 (less pro-rated fee for classes attended); 50% of the tuition will be refunded if you withdraw the student AND notify us in writing, by Monday, March 9, 2015 ($10 registration fee in non-refundable); No refunds will be issued after these dates. We reserve the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, we will be happy to place your child in an alternative class, without charge, or refund your tuition. Class Change Policy You may switch your child to another available class ONE TIME by Monday, March 9, 2015, without a fee. After this date, there is a fee of $25.00 for each class change. Class admission is based on availability at the time of change. Drop-In Classes If you are in a bind and cannot tend to your child right after school, why leave the kids at home in front of the TV or shuffle them around? Let them enjoy one of the MS 177 after school classes on a drop-in basis. Some classes accept daily drop in students. Registration for drop-ins must be done in the PS 158 PA Office or by ing us at club158@ps158.org by 1pm on the day of the drop-in. A one-time per student/per semester registration fee will be added to the first drop-in class fee.

4 Summary of Tuition & Fees: Registration fee per student, per semester (non-refundable) $10 Tuition per class/per semester $450-$750, as specified Extended day tuition per day/per semester $100 Drop-in class $30 per class Drop-in extended day (for students in Club 158 class) $10 per day Late pick-up fee (up to first 15 minutes after dismissal) $15 Late pick-up fee (for each subsequent 15 minutes) $20 Class change fee (one-time switch is permitted free of charge until 3/9/15) $25 Returned check fee $30 Registration Spring semester registration begins online at 8:00pm on Wednesday, January 21 st. We strongly encourage all families to register online, even if you elect to pay by check or cash, as registration is first come, first served. You are welcome to use the computers in the PA Office for registration. Should you register online without submitting credit card information for payment, you must bring payment to the PA Office within 24 hours of submitting your registration in order to hold your child s class. You may submit a completed registration form and waiver, in person, to the PA Office; however, your registration will not be entered into the system until the end of that day. If you would like to enroll in a class that is full and the wait-list is full, please contact the PA office to be put on the extended wait-list. The link for the online registration, along with detailed instructions, will be posted at Online instructions for new families: Information will be posted on our website, prior to the start of online registration. NOTE: this link is different than the link for previously registered families. Online instructions for previously enrolled families: Families who have enrolled in CLUB 158 (drop-in classes included) in the last year must complete online registration through our portal. Please click on this link and log-in to your account before January 21 st, to confirm that you have no issues with your log-in. The link to the portal is through our website at under the CLUB 158 Registration Portal. Your log-in ID is your address. You can request a new password by clicking the I don t know my password link. If you do not receive an with a temporary password, please check your spam folder. Please note that classes will not appear on the registration tab in the portal until 8:00pm, January 21 st. Once you have logged into your account, you will be greeted with a message asking you to agree to the terms and conditions of by typing your full name in the box at the bottom of the pop-up message. York Ave Drama Academy (YADA) is for any 6 th grade student that thinks they have what it takes to be a professional performer anywhere from Drew Carey s show, "Whose Line is it Anyway", to the under the bright lights of Broadway! Improvisation helps students think on their feet, develop confidence in their own creativity, and find their inner comedian. In addition, students will also explore scenes from some of their favorite plays and stories. All of these activities will stimulate the imagination, develop storytelling skills, strengthen acting choices, increase stage presence, and this class is tons of fun! Students also learn to write sketch comedy scenes and monologues from scratch and perform in a presentation to showcase their new talents at the end of the semester. Tuition: $475, Class is limited to 15 children. Photography (5-6) AlpFine Art In this unique and dynamic class, students will gain an in depth understanding of digital photography, Photoshop, and its application on the computer. Students will be encouraged to explore and use their imagination as they learn that art is all around them. The class will culminate with a year-end portfolio presentation. Cameras and computers will be provided by CLUB 158. Instructor, Andrew Levine is a professional photographer whose work has been featured in magazines, advertising, and gallery exhibitions. Tuition: $475, Class is limited to 15 children.

6 MS 177 After School Program Spring 2015 Choir Club (4-6) with Ms. Crowe Want to sing in a choir? Choir club will allow students to learn proper singing techniques along with various vocal warm-ups, ear training activities, harmonies and more! These vocalists will perform songs in different genres ranging from traditional folk songs to today's radio hits and have the chance to sing on stage! Tuition: $450, Class is limited to 20 children. Percussion/Drums (5-6) Mr. Baretto (Sir Chris) This is an introduction drums class for the older students of the 5th and 6th grade classes. Students will learn a strong foundation of drums and rhythm. Student will learn basic drum rudiments while playing along to popular music, proper hand techniques, time keeping, knowledge of drums, percussion, rhythm, notes, and how to read music. Also students will get an introduction to different drum and percussion instruments (Tom Tom drum, talking drum, cowbells, shakers, tambourine, etc...) and learn to play them together as an ensemble setting. If your child is constantly banging on the dinner table and is interested in drumming this is the perfect class for them. Tuition: $450, Class is limited to 24 children. Band Club (3-6) with Ms. Crowe Want to join the band? Now s your chance! Students are welcomed to choose the flute, clarinet or alto saxophone and start from the very beginning. Band members will learn instrument technique, scales, how to read music and how to play as an ensemble with other instruments. The instruments will be rented through Music and Arts under a 5 month contract. Please inquire for pricing. Tuition: $375, plus instrument rental. Class is limited to 12 children. Public Speaking & Debate with Mr. Finkler of MS177 (5-6) What do Kelsey Grammer, Oprah Winfrey, and Margret Thatcher all have in common? They participated in speech and debate! Come find out how to select sources, make an argument, and engage with others after learning the requisite skills to engage in debate! Tuition: $450, Class is limited to 15 children. Filmmaking (6) Kids Make Movies Together, students write a script, decide on characters and draw a storyboard for the film. They act, direct, film and edit. We shoot in front of green screen. At the end of the class everybody gets a DVD with the minimasterpiece. In this class special attention will be given to acting and editing. Genre: Adventure, fantasy. Tuition: $550, Class is limited to 12 children. Coding/Video Game Design (6) RoboFun What do Kelsey Grammer, Oprah Winfrey, and Margret Thatcher all have in common? They participated in speech and debate! Come find out how to select sources, make an argument, and engage with others after learning the requisite skills to engage in debate!
