Our BPS recognised awards were successfully reaccredited in March Clients We are also currently engaged in consultancy work with large industrial corporate clients. This is an area of provision we wish to develop within the department. Laboratory Facilities We have recently updated our laboratory facilities to enable more flexible and dedicated teaching of research methods and statistics. The main psychology laboratory consists of teaching space with PCs as well as space for noncomputerised research teaching. The laboratory has access to dedicated software to enable students to run computerised experiments, for example, -Prime experiment generator software. There are also facilities within the main laboratory to analyse both quantitative (using both SPSS & AMOS statistical packages) and qualitative data (using the NVivo package). In addition to the main teaching lab, there are a number of specialised research laboratories. There is an eye-tracking laboratory, which has advanced eye-tracking technology. The Tobii T60 eyetracker is a non-obtrusive eye-tracker which does not require head mounted tracking equipment. This is currently a laboratory-based tracker but has been adapted for portability to enable eye-tracking research in the field. There is psychophysiology laboratory which houses both lectroencephalograph (G) facilities as well as more basic psychophysiology recording equipment (e.g. heart-rate, skin-conductance recording etc.). The G recorder allows recording from up to 64 sites on the scalp for the collection of fine detailed G information. We are currently in the process of purchasing a new higher specification G machine

4 There is also a low-level vision laboratory. This facility has dedicated equipment especially suited to fine grained manipulation of stimulus intensities and durations particularly suited to low-level vision research. Furthermore, the department now have an observation suite. The observation room has 3 high definition video cameras and microphones which enable all activities within the room to be heard and observed. One of the cameras can be moved by remote control to allow the observer to follow and to focus on certain activities. The output from the recording equipment is fed to a computer and viewing area next door, where it can be edited and downloaded. There is also space for more general purpose laboratory work such as running focus groups and oneto-one interviews. We have access to a number of other research facilities, which are available through arrangement with other sections of the University. There are considerable laboratory facilities within the Centre for Sports and xercise Science including soundproof and climate control rooms, as well as facilities within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.
