1 Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management Sheffield Business School The Department of Management Permanent Full time Salary 32,277 to 47,328 per annum, dependent on experience Vacancy reference SBS 537/14 Closing date 12 November 2014 at 12 noon The Organsational Behaviour and Human Resource Management Subject Group The Organsational Behaviour and Human Resource Management Subject Group has experienced a sustained increase in the quantity of its work in terms of undergraduate, postgraduate, corporate and consultancy activities over the last few years. It is responsible for the delivery of two full time and one part time Masters Programmes in HRM as well as specialist Masters degrees in Coaching & Mentoring and Organisation Development. In addition, the Group contributes to MBA and other postgraduate programmes within the faculty. At undergraduate level we are principally responsible for delivering our BA in Business Studies and HRM course. We also provide a number of core modules on the BA Business Studies and other business based degrees as well as a range of OB & HR options. The Subject Group and its programmes have strong links to the CIPD and connections with other professional bodies e.g. MCC, CMI. A key part of the Subject Group's growth has been our involvement in business engagement initiatives and our continued involvement in activities such as knowledge transfer and corporate development programmes. We also pride ourselves on the strong vocational nature of our teaching and are always prepared to consider recruiting people with a mix of academic skills and strong practical experience, gained from holding HR roles in industry. For this position we are seeking someone who can demonstrate an ability to teach generalist HRM topics and work with both our undergraduate and postgraduate students. The first part will comprise of an informal discussion, a microteach presentation and a practical exercise (given on the day). Following these, the strongest candidates will then be invited to participate in the second part, which will be a formal interview. For the micro teach - presentation we would like you to prepare a short lecture, aimed at first year undergraduate students undertaking a Business & HRM degree. The objective of the lecture will be to provide them with insights into links between theory and practice, which will assist them in their further studies and the Module this lecture would support is called "Understanding People". You will have 15 minutes (strictly timed) to make your presentation, followed by 10 minutes of questions. Powerpoint and Flip Chart will be available. Within the micro-teach you will be expected to demonstrate: Well developed and current knowledge and understanding of critical, practical and theoretical issues relevant to HRM across a broad range of practice Ability to inspire, motivate and connect with a range of stakeholders e.g. students and external clients from a range of different backgrounds

5 Job description Job Title Faculty/Dept Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management Sheffield Business School Grade 7/8 Reports to Direct reports Role Purpose Subject Group Leader None To teach and support students by taking a learner-centred approach in line with the University s Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy. To contribute to curriculum development and delivery, research and other forms of scholarly activity as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Main Duties The post holder performs a range of duties and responsibilities from those listed below. The balance of these will vary between post holders. Student xperience Designs and delivers innovative, high quality and challenging learning experiences. quips students with the skills, knowledge and attributes required by employers through delivery of the curriculum. Contributes to the development of a sense of student community and acts as key contact for students. Assists with the operational delivery of courses/modules and acts proactively to address any emerging issues, escalating as appropriate. Actively participates in student induction (where appropriate), including preparation of key information for students. Plays an active role in the pastoral care and supervision of students. Learning, Teaching and Assessment Plans and delivers the curriculum using appropriate media, including the use of IT. ngages in critical reflection on practice as a basis for improving performance. Contributes to innovation in learning, teaching, assessment and curriculum development with the aim of meeting the needs of learners. Provides effective feedback, support and guidance to students. Translates professional experience into the academic context as appropriate. Regularly engages in staff development activities relating to teaching, learning and assessment. Supervises individual and group based student activities, e.g. dissertations, industrial placements, work based projects.
