2 CAUTION When you move the mchine, grsp the side hndholds tht re under the scnner. DO NOT crry the mchine y holding it t the ottom. Keep minimum gp round the mchine s shown in the illustrtion. 350 mm 100 mm 100 mm 90 mm The components included in the ox my differ depending on your country. Plese sve the originl pckging should you need to ship the mchine in future. If for ny reson you must ship your mchine, crefully repck the mchine in the originl pckging to void ny dmge during trnsit. The mchine should e dequtely insured with the crrier. For how to repck the mchine, see Pcking nd shipping the mchine in the Advnced User's Guide. The interfce cle is not stndrd ccessory. Buy the pproprite interfce cle for the interfce you wnt to use (USB or Network). USB cle It is recommended to use USB 2.0 cle (Type A/B) tht is no longer thn 2 metres. DO NOT connect the interfce cle t this time. Connecting the interfce cle is done during the MFL-Pro instlltion process. Network cle Use stright-through Ctegory5 (or greter) twisted-pir cle for 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX Fst Ethernet Network. 2

3 2 Remove the pcking mteril from the mchine d Lift the elstic nd off the drum. DO NOT connect the AC power cord yet. Remove the pcking tpe from the outside of the mchine nd the film covering the scnner glss. Open the front cover. e Pull the pper strip to remove the protective mteril s shown in the illustrtion. c Remove the Silic Pck from the inside of the mchine. f Tke out the drum unit nd toner crtridge ssemly. CAUTION DO NOT et the Silic Pck. Plese discrd. If ingested seek medicl ttention immeditely. 3

4 g Gently shke it from side to side severl times to distriute the toner evenly inside the ssemly. 3 Lod pper in the pper try Pull the pper try completely out of the mchine. h Put the drum unit nd toner crtridge ssemly ck in the mchine. While pressing the green pper-guide relese lever, slide the pper guides to fit the pper size you re loding in the try. Mke sure tht the guides re firmly in the slots. i Close the front cover of the mchine. 1 4

5 c Fn the stck of pper well to void pper jms nd misfeeds. 4 Connect the power cord DO NOT connect the interfce cle yet. d Put the pper in the try nd mke sure: The pper is elow the mximum pper mrk ( ). Over filling the pper try will cuse pper jms. The side to e printed on must e fce down. The pper guides touch the sides of the pper so it will feed correctly. Connect the AC power cord to the mchine, nd then plug it into n electricl socket. Turn on the mchine s power switch. 1 5 Choose your lnguge After turning the power switch on, the LCD shows: Select Lnguge Press OK Key Press OK. Press or to choose your lnguge nd press OK. e Put the pper try firmly ck in the mchine. Mke sure tht it is completely inserted into the mchine. For more informtion out recommended pper, see Recommended pper nd print medi in the Bsic User s Guide. Select Lnguge English c If the LCD shows the correct lnguge, press. OR Press to go ck to step to choose the lnguge gin. English? Yes No If you hve set the wrong lnguge, you cn chnge the lnguge from the control pnel menu of the mchine. For detils, see Chnging the LCD lnguge in the Bsic User's Guide. 5

8 USB Windows For USB Interfce Users (Windows 2000 Professionl/XP/XP Professionl x64 Edition/Windows Vist /Windows 7) 8 Before you instll Mke sure tht your computer is ON nd you re logged on with Administrtor rights. If there re ny progrms running, close them. The screens my differ depending on your operting system. The instlltion CD-ROM includes ScnSoft PperPort 12SE. This softwre supports Windows XP (SP3 or greter), XP Professionl x64 Edition (SP2 or greter), Windows Vist (SP2 or greter) nd Windows 7. Updte to the ltest Windows Service Pck efore instlling MFL-Pro Suite. For Windows 2000 (SP4 or greter) users, when the ScnSoft PperPort 11SE downlod screen ppers during the instlltion of MFL-Pro Suite, follow the on-screen instructions. Turn off the mchine nd mke sure the USB interfce cle is NOT connected to the mchine. If you hve lredy connected the cle, disconnect it. c d 9 Instll MFL-Pro Suite Put the instlltion CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If the model nme screen ppers, choose your mchine. If the lnguge screen ppers, choose your lnguge. If the Brother screen does not pper utomticlly, go to My Computer (Computer), doule-click the CD-ROM icon, nd then doule-click strt.exe. Click Initil Instlltion nd then Instll MFL-Pro Suite. Click Yes if you ccept the license greements. If the instlltion does not continue utomticlly, open the top menu gin y ejecting nd then reinserting the CD-ROM or doule-click the strt.exe progrm from the root folder, nd continue from step to instll MFL-Pro Suite. For Windows Vist nd Windows 7 users, when the User Account Control screen ppers, click Allow or Yes. Follow the on-screen instructions until this screen ppers. 8

9 USB Windows e Connect the USB cle to the USB connector mrked with the symol on your mchine nd then connect the cle to your computer. f Turn the mchine on, nd follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup. DO NOT cncel ny of the screens during the instlltion. It my tke few seconds for ll screens to pper. For Windows Vist nd Windows 7 users, when the Windows Security screen ppers, select the check ox nd click Instll to complete the instlltion correctly. If n error messge ppers during the softwre instlltion, run the Instlltion Dignostics locted in Strt/All Progrms/Brother/DCP-XXXX (where DCP-XXXX is your model nme). Windows USBMcintosh Finish The instlltion is now complete. Depending on your security settings, Windows Security or ntivirus softwre window my pper when using the mchine or its softwre. Plese llow or permit the window to continue. XML Pper Specifiction Printer Driver The XML Pper Specifiction Printer Driver is the most suitle driver for Windows Vist nd Windows 7 when printing from pplictions tht use the XML Pper Specifiction documents. Plese downlod the ltest driver y ccessing the Brother Solutions Center t 9

10 USB Mcintosh For USB Interfce Users (Mc OS X x) 8 Before you instll Mke sure your mchine is connected to the power nd your Mcintosh is ON. You must e logged on with Administrtor rights. For Mc OS X users, upgrde to Mc OS X x. (For the ltest drivers nd informtion on the Mc OS X you re using, visit 9 Instll MFL-Pro Suite Put the instlltion CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Doule-click the Strt Here OSX icon. Follow the on-screen instructions. Connect the USB cle to the USB connector mrked with the symol on your mchine nd then connect the cle to your Mcintosh. c It my tke few minutes for the instlltion to complete. Follow the on-screen instructions until this screen ppers. Choose your mchine from the list, nd then click OK. c Mke sure your mchine s power switch is on. d When this screen ppers, click Next. The instlltion of MFL-Pro Suite is now complete. Go to step 10 on pge

(Not for Windows 2000 users) 10 Windows Instll MFL-Pro Suite on dditionl computers (if needed) If you wnt to use your mchine with multiple computers on the network, instll MFL-Pro Suite on ech computer. Go to step 9 on pge 12. e If you re not using the Windows Firewll, see the user's guide of your firewll or ntivirus softwre for informtion on how to dd the following network ports. For network scnning, dd UDP port If you still hve troule with your network connection, dd UDP port 137. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup. DO NOT cncel ny of the screens during the instlltion. It my tke few seconds for ll screens to pper. If your mchine is not found over the network, confirm your settings y following the on-screen instructions. You cn find your mchine s IP ddress nd the node nme y printing out the Network Configurtion Report. See Print the Network Configurtion Report on pge 32. For Windows Vist nd Windows 7 users, when the Windows Security screen ppers, select the check ox nd click Instll to complete the instlltion correctly. If you wnt to use more thn 5 PCs with ScnSoft PperPort 12SE or ScnSoft PperPort 11SE instlled, plese purchse the Brother NL-5 pck which is multiple PC license greement pck for up to 5 dditionl users. To purchse the NL-5 pck, contct your uthorized Brother deler or contct Brother customer service. Finish The instlltion is now complete. You cn esily scn, shre nd orgnize photos nd documents using Presto! PgeMnger. Enter nme for your Mcintosh in Disply Nme up to 15 chrcters long nd click OK. Go to d. On the Brother Support screen, click Presto! PgeMnger nd follow the on-screen instructions. If you wnt to use the mchine s SCAN key to scn over the network, you must check the Register your computer with the "Scn To" function on the mchine ox. The nme you enter will pper on the mchine s LCD when you press (SCAN) nd choose scn option. (For more informtion, see Network Scnning in the Softwre User's Guide.) d When this screen ppers, click Next. The instlltion of MFL-Pro Suite is now complete. Go to step 10 on pge Instll MFL-Pro Suite on dditionl computers (if needed) If you wnt to use your mchine with multiple computers on the network, instll MFL-Pro Suite on ech computer. 16 For Wireless Network Users For Wireless Network Interfce Users 8 Before you egin First you must configure the wireless network settings of your mchine to communicte with your network ccess point/router. After the mchine is configured to communicte with your ccess point/router, computers on your network will hve ccess to the mchine. To use the mchine from these computers, you will need to instll the drivers nd softwre. The following steps will guide you through the configurtion nd instlltion process. If you re going to connect the mchine to your network, we recommend tht you contct your system dministrtor prior to instlltion. You must know your wireless network settings efore you proceed with this instlltion. If you hve previously configured the wireless settings of the mchine you must reset the network (LAN) settings efore you cn configure the wireless settings gin. 1. (For DCP-7055W / DCP-7057W) On your mchine, press Menu nd press or to choose 3.Network. Press OK. (For DCP-7070DW) On your mchine, press Menu nd press or to choose 4.Network. Press OK. 2. Press or to choose 0.Network Reset. Press OK. 3. Press to choose Reset. 4. Press to choose Yes. To chieve optimum results with norml everydy document printing, plce the Brother mchine s close to the network ccess point/router s possile with miniml ostructions. Lrge ojects nd wlls etween the two devices s well s interference from other electronic devices cn ffect the dt trnsfer speed of your documents. Due to these fctors, wireless my not e the est method of connection for ll types of documents nd pplictions. If you re printing lrge files, such s multi-pge documents with mixed text nd lrge grphics, you my wnt to consider choosing wired Ethernet for fster dt trnsfer or USB for the fstest throughput speed. Although the Brother DCP-7070DW cn e used in oth wired nd wireless network, only one of the connection methods cn e used t time. The screens re sed on DCP-7070DW. 17 For Wireless Network Users 9 Choose your wireless instll method The following instructions will offer three methods for instlling your Brother mchine in wireless network environment. Choose the method you prefer for your environment. To setup your mchine in ny other wireless environment, you cn find instructions in the Network User's Guide. Configurtion using the Instlltion CD-ROM nd temporrily using USB cle (Windows only). It is recommended tht you use PC wirelessly connected to your network for this method. You need to temporrily use USB cle during configurtion (cle not included). For Windows 2000 nd Windows XP users you will need to know the wireless settings of your network efore you proceed. Plese write down your wireless network settings in the re elow. Item SSID (Network Nme) Network Key (Security Key/Encryption Key) Record the current wireless network settings * The Network Key my lso e descried s the Pssword, Security Key or Encryption Key. Plese do not contct Brother Customer Service for ssistnce without the wireless security informtion. We cnnot ssist you in locting your network security settings. If you do not know this informtion (SSID nd Network Key), you cnnot continue the wireless setup. How cn I find this informtion (SSID nd Network Key)? 1. You should see the documenttion provided with your wireless ccess point/router. 2. The initil network nme could e the mnufcturer s nme or the model nme. 3. 18 For Wireless Network Users Mnul configurtion from the control pnel (Windows nd Mcintosh) If your wireless ccess point/router does not support Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) or AOSS, write down the wireless network settings of your wireless ccess point/router in the re elow. Plese do not contct Brother Customer Service for ssistnce without the wireless security informtion. We cnnot ssist you in locting your network security settings. 19 For Wireless Network Users Configurtion using the Instlltion CD-ROM nd temporrily using USB cle (Windows only) 10 Configure the wireless settings e When this screen ppers, choose Chnge the Firewll port settings to enle network connection nd continue with the instlltion. If prompted, select your model nd lnguge. If the Brother screen does not pper utomticlly, go to My Computer (Computer), doule-click the CD-ROM icon, nd then doule-click strt.exe. Click Initil Instlltion nd then Instll MFL-Pro Suite. f If you re not using the Windows Firewll, see the user's guide of your firewll or ntivirus softwre for informtion on how to dd the following network ports. Follow the on-screen instructions. Choose Wireless Network Connection nd then click Next. g Red the Importnt Notice. Check the ox fter you confirm the SSID nd Network Key, nd then click Next. For Windows Vist nd Windows 7, when the User Account Control screen ppers, click Allow or Yes. If you re instlling from wireless PC running Windows Vist or Windows 7, check the ox nd then click next. 20 For Wireless Network Users h i Choose Temporrily use USB cle (Recommended) nd then click Next. Temporrily connect the USB cle (not included) directly to the computer nd the mchine. If the list is lnk, check tht the ccess point hs power nd is rodcsting the SSID, nd then see if the mchine nd the ccess point re within rnge for wireless communiction. Then, click Refresh. If your ccess point is set to not rodcst the SSID you cn mnully dd it y clicking the Advnced utton. Follow the on-screen instructions for entering the Nme (SSID), nd then click Next. j If the confirmtion screen ppers, check the ox nd click Next. When the following screen ppers, check Yes if you wnt to connect with the listed SSID. Click Next nd go to n. l If your network is not configured for Authentiction nd Encryption, the following screen will pper. To continue configurtion, click OK nd go to n. k The wizrd will serch for wireless networks ville from your mchine. Choose the SSID tht you wrote down for your network in step 9 on pge 17, nd then click Next. m Enter the Network Key you wrote down in step 9 on pge 17 nd then enter the key gin in Confirm Network Key, then click Next. 20

21 For Wireless Network Users n Click Next. The settings will e sent to your mchine. The settings will remin unchnged if you click Cncel. If you wnt to mnully enter the IP ddress settings of your mchine, click Chnge IP Address nd enter the necessry IP ddress settings for your network. If the wireless setup filure screen ppers, click Retry nd try strting from step k gin. o A connection result messge ppers for 60 seconds on the LCD. p Disconnect the USB cle etween the computer nd the mchine. Wireless setup is now complete. To instll MFL-Pro Suite, continue to step f on pge 29. Now go to pge 29 Wireless Network Windows Mcintosh 21

22 For Wireless Network Users Mnul configurtion from the control pnel (Windows nd Mcintosh) 10 Configure the wireless settings You must hve the wireless settings you wrote down for your network in step 9 on pge 17 efore you proceed. 22 (For DCP-7055W / DCP-7057W) On your mchine, press Menu nd press or to choose 3.Network, nd press OK. Press or to choose 2.Setup Wizrd, nd press OK. (For DCP-7070DW) On your mchine, press Menu nd press or to choose 4.Network, nd press OK. Press or to choose 2.WLAN, nd press OK. Press or to choose 2.Setup Wizrd, nd press OK. When WLAN Enle? is displyed, press to choose On. This will strt the wireless setup wizrd. Otherwise press Stop/Exit to exit from the wireless setup wizrd. The mchine will serch for ville SSIDs. If list of SSIDs is displyed, use the or key to choose the SSID you wrote down in step 9 on pge 17, then press OK. If you re using n uthentiction nd encryption method tht requires Network Key, go to c. If your uthentiction method is Open System nd your encryption mode is None, go to e. It will tke severl seconds to disply list of ville SSIDs. If list of SSIDs is not displyed, mke sure your ccess point is on. Move your mchine closer to the ccess point nd try strting from gin. If your ccess point is set to not rodcst the SSID you will hve to mnully dd the SSID nme. For detils, see Configuring your mchine when the SSID is not rodcst in the Network User's Guide. If your wireless ccess point/router supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup, Selected ccess point supports WPS. Use WPS? ppers. To connect your mchine using the utomtic wireless mode, press to choose Yes. (If you choose No, go to c to enter the Network Key.) When Strt WPS on your wireless ccess point/router,then choose Next. ppers, press the Wi-Fi Protected Setup utton on your wireless ccess point/router, nd then press to choose Next. Go to e. c d e Enter the Network Key you wrote down in step 9 on pge 17 using or to choose ech letter or numer. To delete the letters you hve entered, press Cler. For exmple, to enter the letter, press or until it ppers. To enter the next chrcter, press OK. For more informtion, see Entering Text for Wireless Settings on pge 27.
