1 Chromebook Prent/Student Informtion 1 Receiving Your Chromebook Student Distribution Students will receive their Chromebooks nd cses during school. Students nd prents must sign the School City of Hmmond Required Use Policy to receive Chromebook 2 Returning Your Chromebook End of Yer At the end of the school yer, students will turn in their Chromebooks nd cses to the Medi Center. Filure to turn in Chromebook will result in the student being chrged the full $ replcement cost. The District my lso file report of stolen property with the locl lw enforcement gency. 3 Tking Cre of Your Chromebook Students re responsible for the generl cre of the Chromebook they hve been issued by the school. Chromebooks tht re broken or fil to work properly must be tken to the Medi Center s soon s possible so tht they cn be tken cre of properly. District-owned Chromebooks should never be tken to n outside computer service for ny type of repirs or mintennce. Students should never leve their Chromebooks unttended except locked in their hllwy locker. Generl Precutions No food or drink should be next to Chromebooks. Cords, cbles, nd removble storge devices must be inserted crefully into Chromebooks. Chromebooks should not be used or stored ner pets. Chromebooks should not be used with the power cord plugged in when the cord my be tripping hzrd. Chromebooks must remin free of ny writing, drwing, stickers, nd lbels. Hevy objects should never be plced on top of Chromebooks. b Cses Ech student will be issued protective bg for his/her Chromebook tht should be used whenever the Chromebook is being trnsported or not in use. Although the cses re reinforced to help protect the Chromebooks, they re not gurnteed to prevent dmge. It remins the student s responsibility to cre for nd protect his/her device. c Crrying Chromebooks Alwys trnsport Chromebooks with cre nd in School City of Hmmond-issued protective cses. 2 Never lift Chromebooks by the screen. Never crry Chromebooks with the screen open. d Screen Cre The Chromebook screen cn be dmged if subjected to hevy objects, rough tretment, some clening solvents, nd other liquids. The screens re prticulrly sensitive to dmge from excessive pressure. Do not put pressure on the top of Chromebook when it is closed. Do not store Chromebook with the screen open. Do not plce nything in the protective cse tht will press ginst the cover. Mke sure there is nothing on the keybord before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, or disks). Only clen the screen with soft, dry microfiber cloth or nti-sttic cloth. e Asset Tgs All Chromebooks will be lbeled with School City of Hmmond sset tg. Asset tgs my not be modified or tmpered with in ny wy. Students my be chrged up to the full replcement cost of Chromebook for tmpering with School City of Hmmond sset tg or turning in Chromebook without School City of Hmmond sset tg. 4 Using Your Chromebook At School Students re expected to bring fully chrged Chromebook to school every dy nd bring their Chromebooks to ll clsses unless specificlly dvised not to do so by their techer. If student does not bring his/her Chromebook to school A student my stop in the Medi Center nd check out loner for the dy or hve his/her techer cll the Help Desk to hve one delivered, if vilble. A student borrowing Chromebook must sign loner greement nd will be responsible for ny dmge to or loss of the issued device. The Medi Center will document the number of times loner is issued to ech student for not hving his/her own Chromebook t school nd will send reports to the principl s office for those students tht hve more thn one occurrence during the school yer. The principl will tret such occurrences s Level 1 offenses, which my result in disciplinry ction. The students tht obtin loner will be responsible for returning the borrowed device to the Medi Center before 3:00 p.m. If loner is not turned in by 3:00 p.m., the Medi Center will submit report to the principl s office nd the principl will work on retrieving the loner. b Chromebooks being repired Loner Chromebooks my be issued to students when they leve their school-issued Chromebook for repir in the Tech Support clssroom. A student borrowing Chromebook must sign loner greement nd will be responsible for ny dmge to or loss of the loned device.

3 Chromebooks on lon to students hving their devices repired my be tken home. A member of the Tech Support clss will contct students when their devices re repired nd vilble to be picked up. c Chrging Chromebooks Chromebooks must be brought to school ech dy with full chrge. Students should chrge their Chromebooks t home every evening. If Chromebook is ded during clss it is up to the techer s discretion to llow student to chrge during clss. A student cn obtin loner tblet from the Medi Center to use if device is ded. d Bckgrounds nd Themes Inpproprite medi my not be used s Chromebook bckgrounds or themes. The presence of such medi will result in disciplinry ction. e f Sound Sound must be muted t ll times unless permission is obtined from techer. Hedphones my be used t the discretion of the techers. Students should hve their own personl set of hedphones for snitry resons. Printing Students will be encourged to digitlly publish nd shre their work with their techers nd peers when pproprite. If student must print they cn use student desktop worksttion to ccess their file from Google Drive. Students my set up their home printers with the Google Cloud Print solution to print from their Chromebooks t home. Informtion bout Google Cloud Print cn be obtined here: g Logging into Chromebook Students will log into their Chromebooks using their school issued Google Apps for Eduction (GAFE) ccount ending Students should never shre their ccount psswords with others, unless requested by n dministrtor. h Mnging nd Sving Your Digitl Work With Chromebook The mjority of student work will be stored in Internet/cloud bsed pplictions nd cn be ccessed from ny computer with n Internet connection nd most mobile Internet devices. Some files my be stored on the Chromebook s hrd drive. Students should lwys remember to sve frequently when working on digitl medi. The district will not be responsible for the loss of ny student work. Students re encourged to mintin copy of ll work in Google Drive. 5 Using Your Chromebook Outside of School Students re encourged to use their Chromebooks t home nd other loctions outside of school. A Wi-Fi Internet connection will be required for the some Chromebook use, however, most pplictions cn be used

4 while not connected to the Internet. Students re bound by the School City of Hmmond Acceptble Use Policy, Administrtive Procedures, Chromebook greement, nd ll other guidelines in this document wherever they use their Chromebooks 6 Operting System nd Security Students my not use or instll ny operting system on their Chromebook other tht the current version of ChromeOS tht is supported nd mnged by the district. Updtes The Chromebook operting system, ChromeOS, updtes itself utomticlly. Students do not need to mnully updte their Chromebooks b Virus Protection Chromebooks use the principle of defense in depth to provide multiple lyers of protection ginst viruses nd mlwre, including dt encryption nd verified boot. There is no need for dditionl virus protection. 7. Content Filter The district utilizes n Internet content filter tht is in complince with the federlly mndted Children s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) nd filters ll internet ctivity while on cmpus utilizing School City of Hmmond Internet connection. 8 Softwre Google Apps for Eduction (GAFE) Chromebooks semlessly integrte with the Google Apps for Eduction suite of productivity nd collbortion tools. This includes Google Docs (word processing), Spredsheets, Presenttions, Drwings, nd Forms. All work is stored in the cloud. b Chrome Web Apps nd Extensions Some web pps will be vilble to use when the Chromebook is not connected to the Internet. 9 Chromebook Identifiction b Records Users The district will mintin log of ll Chromebooks tht includes the Chromebook seril number, sset tg code, nd nme nd ID number of the student ssigned to the device. Ech student will be ssigned the sme Chromebook for the durtion of his/her time t School City of Hmmond. Tke good cre of it! 10 Repiring/Replcing Your Chromebook. Tech Support (TS) Clss All Chromebooks in need of repir must be brought to the Medi Center s soon s possible.

5 The Medi Center will nlyze nd fix the problems they cn nd esclte the issues they cnnot fix to the Technology Deprtment. b. Vendor Wrrnty Chromebooks include one yer hrdwre wrrnty from the Mnufcturer. The vendor wrrnts the Chromebook from defects in mterils nd workmnship. The limited wrrnty covers norml use, mechnicl brekdown, nd fulty construction. The vendor will provide norml replcement prts necessry to repir the Chromebook or, if required, Chromebook replcement. The vendor wrrnty does not wrrnt ginst dmge cused by misuse, buse, or ccidents. All repir work must be reported to the Medi Center. 11. No Expecttion of Privcy Students hve no expecttion of confidentility or privcy with respect to ny usge of Chromebook, regrdless of whether tht use is for district-relted or personl purposes, other thn s specificlly provided by lw. The District my, without prior notice or consent, log, supervise, ccess, view, monitor, nd record use of student Chromebooks t ny time for ny reson relted to the opertion of the District. By using Chromebook, students gree to such ccess, monitoring, nd recording of their use.. Monitoring Softwre 1 Techers, school dministrtors, nd the technology deprtment stff my use monitoring softwre tht llows them to view the screens nd ctivity on student Chromebooks. 12. Approprite Uses nd Digitl Citizenship School-issued Chromebooks should be used for eductionl purposes nd students re to dhere to the Acceptble Use Policy nd ll of its corresponding dministrtive procedures t ll times. While working in digitl nd collbortive environment, students should lwys conduct themselves s good digitl citizens by dhering to the following: 1 Respect Yourself. I will show respect for myself through my ctions. I will select online nmes tht re pproprite. I will use cution with the informtion, imges, nd other medi tht I post online. I will crefully consider wht personl informtion bout my life, experiences, or reltionships I post. I will not be obscene. I will ct with integrity. 2 Protect Yourself. I will ensure tht the informtion, imges, nd mterils I post online will not put me t risk. I will not publish my personl detils, contct detils, or schedule of my ctivities. I will report ny ttcks or inpproprite behvior directed t me while online. I will protect psswords, ccounts, nd resources 3 Respect Others. I will show respect to others. I will not use electronic mediums to ntgonize, bully, hrss, or stlk people. I will show respect for other people in my choice of websites: I will not visit sites tht re degrding to others, pornogrphic, rcist, or inpproprite. I will not enter other people s privte spces or res.
