1 1 Dear Consortium Co-Chairs, I am writing to apply for the USASBE doctoral consortium. My name is Alexander Gloss and I am a doctoral student in industrial-organizational (I-O) psychology at North Carolina State University. While I have not had the opportunity to participate in any other doctoral seminars on entrepreneurship, I did serve as a co-author of the United Nations Development Programme s report on the private sector s role in poverty reduction (see my attached CV). Co-authorship of this report required me to help craft multiple chapters on the importance of organizational behavior and entrepreneurship to global development and I worked alongside several top scholars from the business and organizational sciences to achieve this. Attached to this letter I am including a short biographical sketch and my current CV. In addition, below is a list of four pressing issues that I have begun to and/or hope to address in my career as a scientist-practitioner in I-O psychology: 1. Research: What is the effect, if any, of socioeconomic development on the nature of adaptive entrepreneurship? 2. Research: How translatable are research insights into entrepreneurship in a formal economy to entrepreneurship in an informal economy? 3. Research: How translatable are research insights into opportunity-based entrepreneurship to necessitybased entrepreneurship? 4. Research and teaching: How can entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics be engendered in disadvantaged populations through the use of information and communication technologies? Please let me know if I can provide any further materials. Kind regards, Alex Gloss -- Alexander Gloss Doctoral Student IOTech4D Lab North Carolina State University Skype: alexandergloss
