IamfamiliarwiththeLakeQSumterareaandIunderstandtheimportanceofaccess,accountabilityand transparency,soihavealwayshadanopenqdoorpolicy.itisequallyimportantformetogetoutofthe officetointeractwithstudents,faculty,andcommunitystakeholdersdirectlyinordertounderstandand betteraddresstheirneedsandconcerns.asastandardpractice,ischedulelisteningopportunitieson campusandthroughouttheserviceareathataffordmetheopportunitytocollectvaluableinformation fromourcustomersandconstituentgroupswhichfostersthecontinuousimprovementprocess. Ihaveastrongrecordofsuccesswithregardtobuildingenrollment.Specifically,Iwasabletoincrease enrollmentatcollegeofthemainlandby19percentoverthepreviousyearafterexperiencingincreases ofonlyabouttwoorthreepercentpriortomyarrival.morerecently,whileoverallenrollmentinnorth CarolinaisdecliningIhavebeenabletoincreaseenrollmentbyeightpercent.Iengagedtheentire collegecommunity,revisedcollegeprocesses,alignededucationalandworkforcetrainingprograms,and updatedcollegestrategiestoaccomplishthisgoal.furthermore,atbothcollegeofthemainlandand RoanokeQChowanCommunityCollegeIprovidedtheleadershipthatledtothedevelopmentofOnQline and/orweekendcollegeinordertomakeobtainingahighqualitydegreeorcertificationmore convenientforstudentswhofinditdifficulttoattendtraditionalclasses. Itisimportanttohaveapresidentwhohasprovenleadershipskillsintimesoflimitedresources.Ihave providedthatleadershipthathelpedtokeepeachcollege,atwhichihaveservedaschiefexecutive officer,strategicallyalignedandfinanciallysolvent.ihaveconservativelymanagedoperationalbudgets from10to32millioneffectivelyandefficiently. DevelopingaworldQclasscommunitycollegewilldemandadditionalfinancialresourcesbeyond traditionalsourcesandihaveaprovenfundraisingrecord.whileservingaspresidentofcollegeofthe MainlandinTexasCity,Texas,andChancellorofSOWELAinLakeCharles,Louisiana,andPresidentof RoanokeQChowanCommunityCollegeIwasandcontinuetobedirectlyinvolvedwiththeCollege Foundationsandfundraising.Iwasinstrumentalinincreasingannualcontributionsbymorethan100, 000aftermyfirstyearatCollegeoftheMainland.Ialsomadethestrategicdecisiontoestablisha GrantsDepartmentthatincreasedgrantdollarsbynearly1millionthefirstyearofdevelopment. Additionally,IservedasBuildingCommitteeChairofa2.5millionnewconstructionprojectformy churchindaytonabeach,florida.iorganizedandledthechurchsuccessfullythroughthe unconventionalchurchbondmethodoffinancingandalsoprovideddirectleadershipandoversightfor theentireconstructionprocess.additionally,ialsoservedasanactiveboardmemberforthechildren s AdvocacyCenter(CAC)ofVolusiaCounty,Florida,duringwhichIprovidedBoardleadershiptopurchase anewfacilityforthecenter.wewerealsohighlyengagedinsomeofthemostsuccessfulfundraising activitieswhileiwaschairofthecac. LakeQSumterStateCollegeneedsaprovenleader,likeme,whohasdemonstratedsuccessfulleadership increatingthenecessarysystemsandenvironmentthatpromotechangeandbuildintegrityaswellas

3 inspiresandmotivatesotherstowillinglyparticipateinthatchangeprocess.wewillneedtobuilda collegeculturethatcelebratesdiversity,teamwork,andcollaboration,aswellasinculcatesitintoits curriculuminordertoproducestudentstrainedtomeettheneedsandchallengesoftheglobal workforce. 4 Michael Anthony Elam, B.S., M. Ed., Ed. D. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 2013 June Present President Roanoke-Chowan Community College, Ahoskie, NC. Roanoke-Chowan Community College: a small, single campus, two year community college providing workforce and liberal arts certificates and associate degrees. The college serves Bertie, Hertford, and Northampton Counties comprising more than 75,000 people with an operational budget of 12 million. The annual enrollment is 900 curriculum and 1800 continuing education students. President: Chief Executive Officer providing visionary leadership for college operations, budgeting, planning and college development. The president reports to a 13 member board appointed by three different governmental bodies & one student member; engage in community and economic growth initiatives with community stakeholders; advocate for the college with local, legislative, state, federal representatives as well as with local business and industry; collaborate with organizations and others to promote college and student success; work with college Foundation to provide adequate resources enabling the college to offer high quality programs and instruction February May 2013 System Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, Louisiana Community and Technical College System, Baton Rouge, LA Louisiana Community and Technical College System: the LCTCS has 14 community and technical public two year colleges that serve nearly 60,000 students state-wide. Central Louisiana Technical Community College: a newly formed multi-campus, two year, public technical college transitioning to a comprehensive community college offering academic and workforce training on six campuses spread throughout 13 parishes comprising Central Louisiana; an annual enrollment of

Director of Minority Affairs: Provided leadership for the college with respect to the development and implementation of the college s equity and affirmative action plans. Assisting the university in achieving its commitments under the Kentucky Desegregation Plan and assisting in the recruitment of minority faculty and students were primary responsibilities.
