Wallace Community College PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/ACCOMPLISHMENTS September, 2012-current Dean of Academics, Southern Union State Community College Responsibilities: As the Dean of Academics, I report directly to the president and represent the president at various functions during the president s absence. I provide fiscal and managerial oversight for day to day operations of the Academic Division for approximately 80 full-time and an average of 100 part-time employees on three campuses. Currently, I am mentoring the Health Sciences Division Dean. Southern Union has an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students and approximately 3,500 of these are credit students in academic courses. My responsibilities include the two broad categories of Chief Instructional Officer and Administrative Officer for the Academic Division. As the Instructional Officer, I am responsible for: Six Academic Divisions including Distance Education: My accomplishments include implementing Learning Communities on two campuses, a learning support center for student success, online student application process, reverse transfer agreements with three colleges, the implementation of a computerized student evaluation system as well a new adjunct faculty orientation program. Faculty and Staff supervision: I supervise six program directors, two program coordinators and four staff members. I am responsible for planning and coordinating all aspects of the academic programs. Additional responsibilities include chairing the Policy and Instructional Services Committee, representing academics on both the Executive and Administrative Councils, developing new programs, coordinating course offerings, and recruiting faculty. 2 Responsibilities: As the Dean of Health Sciences, I reported directly to the president and provided fiscal and managerial oversight for day-to-day operations of the Health Sciences Division (twenty-eight full-time and an average of thirty part-time employees on three campuses). The Health Sciences Division had 950 credit students and my responsibilities included the two broad categories of Chief Instructional Officer and Administrative Officer for the Health Sciences Division. The division now administers all tests on the computer and documents many student assessments digitally. I also implemented a new faculty evaluation system as well as technology for all classrooms in the Health Sciences Building. As a team, we implemented Children s Expo, a health and wellness opportunity for area elementary children which serves 500 children a year. As the Instructional Officer, I was responsible for: Five Programs: Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, Therapeutic Massage, and physical education courses. I developed two programs and one certificate program over the past two years. I implemented a digital system for all course and student evaluations. Faculty and Staff Supervision: I supervised four program directors, two program coordinators, and five staff members. My responsibilities included planning and coordinating all aspects of the Health Sciences programs. I had additional responsibilities which included developing policies, developing curriculum and course offerings. During this time, information sessions and a new orientation class were developed for incoming Health Sciences students. Health Sciences Admissions: I supervised program applications and admissions, clinical contracts, program testing, registration, clinical contracts, and clinical records. As the Administrative Officer, I was responsible for the functions of: Health Sciences Resource Management: I was responsible for budgeting, contracts, payroll, and department purchasing. During my tenure, one family donated $10,000 for nursing and nursing-related scholarships. Institutional Research and Effectiveness: I developed assessment plans, accreditation updates, surveys, state reports, and conducted data retrieval and analysis. Grant Writing: I wrote three proposals which allowed the Licensed Practical Nursing Mobility option, Nursing Assistant, and EMS programs to be offered on the Valley and Wadley campuses. 2
3 March, June, 2011 Interim President, Chattahoochee Valley Community College Responsibilities: As the Interim President, I had responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the college. During this time, I also served as the Dean of Instruction. During these four months the college underwent budget revisions related to proration in the state of Alabama. I worked to make changes to offer additional transfer classes on the Fort Benning Campus and the main campus as well as revitalizing the Troy University and CVCC partnership which had not been active for the past year. As Interim President, the Alabama Commission of Higher Education approved two new programs for fall 2011 implementation and the nursing program regained candidacy status for NLNAC accreditation which had been lost in Additionally, work was also maintained to meet the Commission on Colleges (SACS) reaffirmation visit scheduled for fall 2013 including work related to student learning outcomes and program outcomes. My responsibilities also included consensus building within the faculty and staff. September, May, 2006 Adjunct Faculty, Graduate Program- Georgia College and State University Responsibilities: I taught online and weekend courses for the graduate program in nursing and developed online courses for Nurse Educator track. August, 1999 May, 2004 Associate Dean, Academic Affairs for Instructional Design- Alabama Southern Community College Responsibilities: I was responsible for the Teaching and Learning Initiative for three campuses. I was also responsible for curriculum development that included new advances in technology as well as technology training for faculty and staff. I served as principal investigator in the management of a three million dollar National Science Foundation grant for the pulp and paper industry (which was a partnership with Auburn University). I also served as a project investigator for a USDA grant. I assisted in the process of the college receiving the National Science Foundation grant to become a National Center for the Pulp and Paper Industry securing partnerships with colleges across the nation. Learning College Initiative: My focus included development and training for staff, assisting faculty to develop learning activities and curriculum emphasizing learning styles and learning outcomes. I implemented an institution-wide standardized learning syllabus. Administrative Responsibilities: I worked with area businesses, the Perkins report, institutional management plan, facilities management, technical programs, and the academic and health sciences programs Faculty, Nursing- Athens Area Technical Institute (Athens, Georgia) Responsibilities: Instructor for pediatrics, adult health, critical care, and leadership. Faculty duties included student advisement, classroom and clinical instruction. Led initiative to develop program focusing on critical thinking skills for nursing students. 3
