5 Cloud Computing Models Public Cloud *An environment which is dedicate to servicing multiple organisations * Maintenance/Management of this environment is the providers responsibility *Commonly referred to as Software as a Service (SaaS)

6 Cloud Computing Models Private Cloud *An environment which is dedicate to servicing the needs of a single organisation *Maintenance/Management of this environment is the client s responsibility *Commonly referred to as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

9 Public Cloud Is like a Serviced Office. *A single environment, occupied by multiple businesses *Each tenant has their own personal, secure office space *Owned, Managed & Maintained by the external provider

11 Things to be mindful of.. and consider.. * Data may be stored outside Australia *Public Cloud Providers offer limited liability over your data * Public Cloud Providers reserve the right to cancel your subscription at anytime * Less control over problem resolution * Emphasised focus on the internet connectivity at your primary business location

12 Step 1 Ask these two questions Are you comfortable with your data being stored OS? Can your data legally be stored OS? * The majority of Public Cloud Providers currently utilise geographically disperse DC s * Australian based users are generally serviced by Singapore * Google Apps * Office 365 * SalesForce

13 Step 2 Evaluate your internet The internet will be your lifeline! Is it up to the task? * 1-5 Users 5Mbps Down minimum (ADSL) * 6-15 Users 10Mbps Down minimum (ADSL) * 16+ Users 10Mbps Down minimum - Symmetrical Ethernet Service * Corporate Grade/Service Level Agreement? * Failover options 3G/4G/ADSL? Useful tools: (Benchmarks your Download/Upload Speed and Latency)

14 Step 3 Requirements Map A little pain, for long term gain! * List your Core Business Applications * List the functions that these applications perform * Identify who is responsible for performing these functions * Clarify how the assigned staff member performs these functions (Is the process automated through an application or is the process manually conducted via a Word or Excel document) * Identify your staff s current & future access requirements (Devices & Locations)

16 Step 5 Test Drive How does she handle? * Sign up for the free trials * Distribute access amongst management for review * Have management demonstrate the relevant elements to staff * Test, test, and test some more! * Discuss and compare feedback from all testers * Revision Are there any apps that are not performing?

17 Step 6 Review Hardware/Software Requirements Is it time for an upgrade? * Are your existing Workstations/Laptops compatible? * Evaluate mobile devices for external staff (Are Tablets/UltraBooks going to be a better option for mobile staff?) * Is Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) now a viable option? * Check you Networking Devices Modem s & Switches * Is your Anti-Virus suitable?

18 Step 7 Select a Cloud Integrator Technical Review * Discuss and review your choices and findings to date * Discuss and review potential road blocks (Internet Connectivity/Non compatible Applications/Existing Hardware/Software) *Evaluate potential solutions *Discus Solution Design (Is a Hybrid Model a viable option?)

19 Step 8 Cross Check.. Make sure all the pieces fit! *Confirm Governance & Organisational buy in *Finalise Solution Design All in or Hybrid/Cloud Providers * Order Hardware/Software upgrades (if needed) * Confirm the migration path/timeframes with your Integrator (Opt for a Staged Implementation where possible) * Place order/s with relevant Providers/Vendors (Don t forget your ISP if you are upgrading!)

20 Step 9 Implementation Get ready to launch! *Inform staff (and clients) in advance of the Implementation date (as this may result in temporary loss of access to core systems) *Conduct the migration over a weekend where financially viable) * Migrate Documents & s first where technically viable) * Arrange for your Integrator to be on-site for launch day (Post project support)

21 Step 10 Train & Educate Maximise your ROI! *Have your integrator provide training to staff before and on day 1 (Win over those nay-sayers!) *Follow this up with additional group training and education session (Lead by example show your staff how you use the new systems)
