Hosted Voce Self Servce Install Gude Step 1 Assemble your New Phones Remove your new phones from ther boxes and follow the ncluded nstructons to assemble the phones and then place them at the fnal nstall locaton. The boxes wll be labeled wth the phone number to help you dentfy ther placement. Step 2 Call EarthLnk Servce Actvaton Call n to the Servce Actvaton Department to connect your data/nternet servce by callng us at (877) 790-8678, opton 1. If you ordered EarthLnk Internet Access, an EarthLnk techncan wll walk your IT vendor through actvatng your data servce as well as connectng your phones and computers to the EarthLnk provded swtch*. more then the network would be consdered Dual Run. Sngle Run (One Network Jack) 1. Unplug the cable that connects your computer to the network from the back of your computer and plug t nto the LAN port on your new phone. 2. Connect one end of the suppled network cable to the PC port of the phone and the other end to your computer. Exstng cable to Ethernet Jack Provded Ethernet Cable If you have your own router or frewall, t wll need changes to the confguraton and wll also connect to the EarthLnk swtch. EarthLnk strongly recommends your IT vendor be present to make any confguraton changes to your exstng equpment. * A swtch s only provded when orderng EarthLnk Voce and Internet Step 3 Connect Hosted Voce Phones You may be connectng ether a Polycom or Aastra model IP phone. The port layout on the phones may vary, but all phones wll have a LAN port and a PC port To Ethernet Jack Dual Run (Two or more Network Jacks) 1. Connect one end of the suppled network cable to the LAN port of the phone and the other end to the voce network jack.* * If you have an exstng phone plugged nto the voce network jack you wll need to unplug that frst. Voce Jack Data Jack Dependng on how your offce network s wred, you may have one or more network jacks per desk. If there s only one network cable to each workstaton t s referred to as a Sngle Run network. If there are two or If needed, a power adapter wll be ncluded wth your phone. If your order ncluded a Power over Ethernet swtch you may not receve power supples as the phones wll receve power from the EarthLnk swtch after completng Step 4. 4

Connectng Panasonc Cordless Phones You can connect up to 6 cordless handsets to each Panasonc access pont or base unt. All cordless handsets share a phone number wth the devce to whch they are pared. The access pont or base unt can be nstalled on a dedcated LAN jack anywhere n your offce. Take note of the port on the EarthLnk swtch where the Cordless Access Pont s currently connected before movng t to ts new locaton. 1. Connect one end of the suppled network cable to the LAN port on the access pont or base unt. 2. Connect the other end to an avalable LAN jack. 3. Connect the Power Adapter to the access pont or base unt and plug the other end to an electrcal outlet. To nstall the handsets smply connect power to each handset by pluggng n the ncluded adapters to the back of the handset cradles. Hosted Voce Self Servce Install Gude Connectng a Conference Phone There are two ways to connect your phone to the network and a power source. The phone could be connected to a Power over Ethernet (PoE) capable network jack or wth an external Power Inserton Cable. The EarthLnk actvaton techncan wll gude you through whch method to use. Power over Ethernet (PoE) 1. Connect one end of the suppled network cable to the LAN port on the phone. 2. Connect the other end to an avalable LAN jack. Power va AC Adapter 3. Connect the Power Inserton Cable to an avalable LAN jack. 4. Connect the Power Adapter to the Power Inserton Cable. 5. Connect the Power Adapter to the wall outlet. Provded Ethernet Cable Provded Ethernet Cable PoE Enabled Ethernet Jack The access pont or base unt should be placed as close as possble to the handsets for the hghest voce qualty 5

Step 4 Now that your IP phones are nstalled they must be connected to the EarthLnk equpment. 1. Identfy the network cables leadng to your phones n your equpment room. 2. Dsconnect the cables from your exstng swtch or patch panel. 3. Plug the cable nto an avalable LAN port on the EarthLnk equpment To fnalze the changes to your network and restore Internet access, any remanng network devces (network prnters, WF access ponts, servers, etc) need to be moved to the EarthLnk equpment. If the network had Dual Runs, the data cables to each desk wll need to be moved as well. Adtran 3130 Step 5 Hosted Voce Self Servce Install Gude Analog telephone devces such as fax and credt card machnes wll have a correspondng lne n your equpment room where the EarthLnk router s located.! Connectng analog lnes may requre specalzed materals and tools. We strongly recommended that a certfed voce vendor complete these connectons. There are two ways to delver your analog lnes: 1. A tradtonal phone jack (RJ-11) 2. A punchdown block used to connect your nsde wrng to the EarthLnk lnes (66-Block) RJ-11 Jack RJ-11 s a telephone nterface that you may already have at home. It uses two wres and a RJ-11 jack to connect your telephone to your phone company. LAN Ports Adtran 6355 Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) Adtran 6355 Lne 1 Lne 2 Internet port to EarthLnk router If a cordless access pont or Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) was needed, they wll already be plugged n to reserved ports. These devces should always connect to those reserved LAN ports. Lne 1 Lne 2 DO NOT CONNECT TO THE ETHERNET PORT 6

Dependng on how your analog lnes are currently termnated n your equpment room, there are a number of ways to connect your equpment to the analog RJ-11 Port. RJ-11 connector 1. Dsconnect the cable connected to your exstng provder 2. Connect the cable to the approprate port on the EarthLnk equpment 66-Clp Wre Block 1. Dsconnect the wrng connected to your exstng provder 2. Termnate the wres to a RJ-11 connector 3. Connect the cable to the approprate port on the EarthLnk equpment Hosted Voce Self Servce Install Gude 66-Clp Wre Block Durng the PreInstallaton the EarthLnk techncan nstalled a new 66-Block and labeled each lne to facltate the cutover. These ndustrystandard blocks are used to connect your equpment to the phone company s wrng wth a par of clps on the 66-Block. 1. Dsconnect the wrng connected to your exstng provder 2. Remove the brdgng clps on the EarthLnk 66-Block 3. Secure ( Punch Down ) the wres to the approprate clps on the EarthLnk 66-Block 4. Attach the brdgng clps agan to complete the connecton.! Connectng analog lnes may requre specalzed materals and tools. We strongly recommended that a certfed voce vendor complete these connectons. If the analog lnes do not termnate n the equpment room you can move the ATA to an alternate locaton. Usng your exstng LAN wrng: 1. Dsconnect ATA from the EarthLnk router/swtch. Be sure to note where t was orgnally connected 2. Move the ATA to ts new locaton and connect the LAN wrng to the Internet port. 3. Connect the phone cable to the approprate port on the ATA 4. Retermnate the LAN wrng for the ATA to the EarthLnk router/ swtch n the equpment room 7

mel kb_l l h l h m ^ r pb Step 6 Test t out! Test network functonalty by placng an outbound call from each phone to ensure they are operatonal. Verfy you can surf the nternet from your connected PC (f applcable). Ensure you can place calls to local, long dstance, and toll free numbers. Hosted Voce Self Servce Install Gude Your Hosted Voce Techncan wll port your exstng numbers (f applcable) over to the new EarthLnk servce. Once portng s complete, place nbound test calls to each of your lnes to verfy they are functonng properly. Congratulatons! Your EarthLnk Hosted Voce Servce s now up and runnng!
