ipad Backup Options for Students It is always a good idea to have a backup of your important photos, videos, documents and other files on your district issued ipad. Please note that your ipad will be collected in June so that the operating system can be updated. This process will completely erase all contents from your device. The following cloud storage options are recommended: 1. OneDrive a. All MISD students (5th - 12th grade) have account i. Username: first.last@mercerislandschools.org ii. Password: misd.student# b. 1 TB of Storage c. Can use Open- In to upload from Notability, GoodReader, Pages and other apps. d. No way to upload photos/videos at this time (coming soon!) 2. Schoology (IMS Students) a. All IMS students have account b. Can upload to Resources from the ipad - then transfer to a computer with a flash- drive c. Can upload photos/videos directly from camera roll 3. Dropbox a. No official MISD account provided, but can use personal/family accounts b. 2 GB of free storage c. Integrates with Notability, Good Reader, Pages and other apps. d. Can upload photos/videos directly from cameral roll 4. Google Drive a. No official MISD account provided, but can use personal/family accounts b. 15 GB of free storage c. Integrates with Notability, Good Reader, Pages, and other apps. d. Can upload photos/videos from directly camera roll There are many ways to back up documents, once you have decided on your method, you can then find the specific instructions you need in the following pages
Save Items from Apps to OneDrive Step 1: Download OneDrive for Business from the App Catalog or App Store Step 2: Sign- In Step 3: Open the App (e.g. Notability) and item to save, press the Share Icon, select Open In Step 4: Choose Open in One Drive for Business Step 5: Press Upload to OneDrive for Business
Save Photos/Videos to Dropbox Step 1: Download Dropbox from the App Catalog or App Store Step 2: Create an Account and/or Sign In Step 3: Press the plus sign (ios 6) or ellipses (ios 7) then Upload Here (ios 6) or Upload (ios 7) 1 Step 4: Select the album containing the photos/videos you want to save Step 5: Select the photos/videos you want to save and press Upload 1 If prompted, allow Dropbox to access your photos. This can be changed later in the Privacy tab of Settings.

Backing up Documents from Pages to Dropbox: Backing up your ipad documents to Dropbox 1. In order to back up to Dropbox make sure you have downloaded the app and that you have an account. 2. To back- up a document, go to that document and open it in the Pages app 3. Look for the tool that is shaped like a wrench 4. Select share and print to take you to the Open in Another App option 5. Select the format then choose your app the app you want to select is Dropbox 6. It will direct you to the Dropbox app. You may need to log in. 7. Then you can add a description and select which folder to place your document
Backing up your Notability documents: 1. To back- up a document from the Notability app, go to that app and open the document you would like to back up. 2. Look for the tool that is shaped like a square with an arrow and click on it 3. Select Dropbox 4. Select the type of file you would like to send and the folder in Dropbox before clicking on Send to Dropbox

To back- up Photos/Videos form your Camera Roll to Schoology: 1. Go to the Schoology app and log in. 2. Click on the three lines to access the main toolbar, then select Resources 3. Select Home 4. If you have folders set up in Schoology select the folder you would like to add your photos or video. Otherwise, the home area is just fine. 5. Click on the + symbol in the top right hand corner 6. A menu to your album will appear for photos and videos 7. Click on the Check Mark in the upper right hand corner to complete the back- up
