They are written to give teachers instructions and ideas on how to make use of the technology available to them in their school and/or classroom. What is Music Room Tech? Music Room Tech is a collection of resources which can be used, separately from, or to complement the Music Room and The Interactive Music Room series by Bushfire Press. General Aims of Music Room Tech To provide teachers with interactive printed and technology resources for use with devices and IWBs in the music classroom. To develop skills in, and the understanding of, Musical Elements, combined with the General Capabilities of, Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, Critical and creative thinking. The Rationale of Music Room Tech Music is a vital form of expression for students today. Technology has been closely linked with music from the very start and now it provides students with the ability to create their own music in school and at home. National Curriculums call for ICT to be taught throughout the curriculum and what better place to do this than in the music classroom? Music Technology can assist in the physical and intellectual development of the student and helps with confidence, self-esteem, social interaction and identity.

3 Overview A new way of classroom organisation and have changed my teaching and revolutionised the management of my classroom. I distribute charts and printed resources via QR code hyperlinks of my files so students can download them directly onto their ipads. I no longer need 5 CD players for group work. A QR Code delivers the music track to a student s ipad. Concert practice can now be done at home via an Explain Everything file or Book Creator epub with the music track, score and lyrics all in the one document and downloaded via QR code and. Strict internet browsing rules are negotiated by saving images to dropbox and saving websites as PDFs then uploading to dropbox, again delivering to students via. QR Code stands for Quick Response Code. The codes work like a product bar code directing you to information when scanned with a QR code reader. This Document shows how to save files to dropbox and create QR Codes for these files to deliver them to your students. I-nigma is the QR reader app I recommend, it is simple and easy to use with students. can share files between devices and computers. Students upload their ipad assignments to for teachers to download and assess. Teachers upload templates, music tracks, videos and photos for students to open in apps. On your computer, files can be uploaded using a syncing folder or by logging into your account in an internet browser. On your ipad, files can be uploaded directly from apps that allow files to be saved in.

4 Classroom Set Up: two different models Your school set up, ie school owned set vs 1 to 1 BYOD may determine how you set up Dropbbox in your classroom. In my case I have both. A school set of ipads in the junior grades and 1 to 1 in the senior grades. My students do not have personal addresses. Therefore my students cannot create individual dropbox accounts. Thus I use a class dropbox account for students to log in and to upload files. To access different accounts simply go to settings (the cog), sign out and sign in again with the different account. A class account 1. Download free app onto all ipads. 2. Create a dropbox account with a class school address or create a free account such as yahoo. 3. Open class inbox and verify account. 4. Students can now log in to the account and upload files for you to access. NB. Ensure when students log in that they do not allow their photos to be synced to dropbox. Individual student accounts 1. Download free app onto all ipads. 2. Each student creates a dropbox account with an individual address. 3. Open inbox and verify the account. 4. Students can now log in to the account and upload files. 5. To share files with the teacher see the following methods, Shared Folders or Sharing Files.

5 Classroom Set Up: Shared Folders If students have their own dropbox account, invite them to share a folder created in your own account (or they can share a folder with you). Shared folders allow both parties to upload and share files directly with each other as these folders appear in both accounts. To create shared folders, on an ipad, 1. Select the 3 dots. 2. Select create folder. 3. Name your folder 4. Slide the folder across to the right. 5. Select share arrow and invite people to collaborate. 6. Type address of the person you want to share. Select invite. 7. The person invited now logs into their account on the internet, not in the app. Go to the Sharing tab. Click on the Shared folder invitation. 8. Select Accept, the folder will now appear both on the internet and in your app. Everyone sharing the folder can now upload and download files in the folder.

6 Sharing Files: from an ipad 1. In the working app, select your file/project to upload, select the Share arrow, you may be asked to choose a file type. 2. Select Open in Select. NB each app will be slightly different in the number and order of steps to achieve this. and sharing a file in. 4. Select Save. (NB. You can change the folder by selecting Choose a different folder ) 6. To share the file link, select the file, Share arrow and Message, Mail or Copy Link. 5. Wait for document to upload. 7. To download a uploaded file, select the file, Share arrow and Open in....

7 Sharing Files: from computer using syncing folder 1. Put the file into the syncing folder. 2. Wait for the green tick to appear. 3. Right click on the file. 4. Select Share link. 5. Paste the link into your message or . NB. Any file uploaded on an ipad to the syncing folder account will automatically download in this folder on the computer. Sharing Files: from computer using a web browser 1. Select upload. 2. Choose files and wait for them to upload. 3. Hover your mouse over the uploaded document and select Share. 4. Type address and send or select the url link, copy and paste into an To Download a file select it and select Download.

8 in the classroom Teacher posters If your students do not have dropbox or on their ipads, you can still share files uploaded to your dropbox account via a QR Code created with the file link. Print these QR codes as posters and stick them up around the room for students to scan and download the content. These are some examples of the content you can deliver to your students via QR codes using a shared link from : 1. Providing charts, information documents or websites saved as word/pages/pdf files. 2. Website urls. 3. BLM/Templates using pages, Explain Everything, Book Creator. 4. Music files. 5. Video files. 6. Performance Practice eg combining music files, charts and lyrics in Explain Everything or Book Creator. Student created posters 1. Research a topic 2. Present the information in Pages 3. Use to create QR codes on your poster to take your audience to a) Youtube clips (copy and paste the URL address) b) official band websites (copy and paste the URL address) c) listen to a song or watch a video saved in your dropbox (itunes link or link) d) a google maps location (copy and paste the URL address) e) itunes link to an album (itunes link) f) the answer to a question (in text form) Display these posters around the school so other students & parents can interact with the students work.

9 Creating : Computer 1. Upload your file to syncing folder and copy the link. 1. Or upload your file to via a web browser and copy the link. 2. Go to Check, paste the shared dropbox link into the space provided for the URL. 3. Choose your colour. 4. Click Download QR Code, it will download to your Downloads folder. 5. Print out your QR Code or insert into an app such as Pages to create a poster.

10 Creating : ipad 1. Upload your file to app and select uploaded file. Select the export button above the preview window and select Mail. NB. Copy link does not seem to work for this exercise. 3. Go to Check, paste the shared dropbox link into the space provided for the URL. 5. It will download to another browser tab. Hold you finger on the image, Save Image. 2. Highlight the link in the message section and copy. 4. Choose your colour and click Download QR Code. 6. Print out your QR Code or insert into an app such as Pages to create a poster.

11 Downloading a file from a QR Code or a link Scanning a QR Code with i-nigma app: 1. Open app and point your camera at a QR code. 2. Click go online. General instructions to download a picture image: 1. Scan code and go online or click the link. 2. You will be taken to a shared dropbox link. Wait for the page to load in your browser. Select Download. DO NOT click Save to my dropbox 3. Touch and hold on the image, select Save Image. The image will now be in your Camera Roll ready to insert into your project. General instructions to download a Pages/Word or app file: 1. Scan code and go online or click the link. 2. You will be taken to a shared dropbox link. Wait for the page to load in your browser. Select Download. DO NOT click Save to my dropbox 3. Select Open in Choose the app you want to open in. General instructions to download a PDF: 1. Scan code and go online or click the link. 2. You will be taken to a shared dropbox link. Wait for the page to load in your browser. Select Download. DO NOT click Save to my dropbox 3. The file will load in your browser. 4. Touch the document and Open in will appear in the top Right corner. Select Open in ibooks. General instructions to download a music track: 1. Scan code and go online or click the link. 2. You will be taken to a shared dropbox link which will load in your browser. 3. Press play. NB. You cannot direct download a music track into an app.
