Parent informational meeting Tuesday, May 5 th @ 6:30 pm in the OCHS Auditorium
Oldham County Schools & The University of Louisville
Program Overview The University of Louisville, in partnership, with Oldham County Schools will offer twenty (20) high school students the opportunity to earn college credit by attending classes on UofL s campus. These students are called High School Visitors (HSV). Benefits of the program are to: Develop a college transcript while in high school Experience college curriculum and instructional methods Shorten the amount of time required to complete a college degree Save money by paying less per credit hour than a regular UofL college student. Offer high school students the amenities of an UofL college student: free TARC access, free access to UofL s libraries, and free access to the brand new student recreation center. Ability to participate in high school activities during their senior year: prom, graduation, sports, clubs, etc.
Grades and policies Students who enroll in the HSV program must be fully prepared for the challenges of taking on a college level course. Students will receive grades based on UofL s grading scale. Professors will communicate the grading scale to HSV students on a regular basis. Under FERPA privacy rules, the instructor cannot communicate student progress with parents, only the student can access his/her grades. The final grades will become a part of the student s permanent college record. (Oldham County Schools are going to ask permission for the home high school and district to be able to access student grades for high school graduation and completion progress.)
Transferring Credits It is important to note that acceptance as a HSV student does not guarantee acceptance to UofL as an undergraduate student. Students enrolling in and completing a HSV course will obtain a college transcript. The grades will be automatically recorded on their student record at UofL. If the student wishes to have the credits transferred elsewhere, the student must contact the Registrar s office to request a copy of their transcript. The student should contact their prospective college or university for transfer credit guidelines. If the student wishes to continue education at UofL, the credits will automatically appear on the student s record.
Student Eligibility To be eligible for the HSV program, the student must meet the following requirements: 3.0 GPA 22 ACT or 1020 SAT A recommendation from their school s guidance counselor A recommendation from one current teacher An essay explaining why this program would be beneficial to them as a student Note: Currently each high school will be awarded 6 slots this first year of the program. Not all students will be accepted.
