Enclosed is a copy of the Program's brochure listing admission requirements, application and other pertinent information. However, you will need to complete an application for admission into Malcolm X College. 3 MALCOLM X COLLEGE RADIOGRAPHY PROGRAM PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Radiography Program provides knowledge and skill development in the art and science of producing quality films for diagnosis and treatment of disease. The program is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. The program has demonstrated an 87% board passage for the past five years. The Radiography Program prepares students to become certified and licensed Radiographers. Certification is granted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists upon successful completion of the national board examination and Licensure by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the program uses the American Society of Radiologic Technologist s Curriculum Guide. Students are eligible for employment immediately after completion of ALL program requirements, certification and licensure. Employment will be prohibited by non-compliance of the ARRT Code of Ethics. Over the last five years, 87% of the graduates find employment within 180 days of graduation. The average salary for an entry-level radiographer is $22.00 per hour. Salaries increase based on education and experience as well as size and location of medical facility. Radiographers are paid higher salaries for certification in related modalities, such as: CT, MRI, Mammography, Interventional studies, Cardiac Catherization, and Ultrasound. Who Is Eligible to Apply Students 18 years of age or older and grades of C or better in Math 118 or higher, Health Science 102 or Biology 120 and a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale ADMISSION CRITERIA Current college admission application, program admission application, college transcripts transcripts (foreign, other colleges and out of district) must be evaluated for transfer credits prior to application for admission (see the Registrar s Office for evaluation), two letters of recommendation (typed on letterhead paper), one student essay (typed), and personal interview. Grade point average ranking will be a factor in determining admission. Math and Science course credit must be within the past five years to be used for admission credit. TUITION $89.00 per credit hour (total program credit hours seventy-five excluding prerequisites). $ prerequisites (fee varies based on student competencies) $2, st year (varies with completion of general education courses)

Application packets are to be downloaded from the website. Incomplete applications will not be accepted for processing for admission. You must make sure that the application package is received before April 9 th. Applications that are mailed before the deadline and received in the program office after the deadline will be considered LATE Applications will NOT be considered after the deadline date. Applications should be hand delivered between the hours of 8:00am to 4:00pm in a sealed 10 x 13 envelope (no binders/folders) FREQUENCY OF ADMISSION Once a year- beginning the first week of the summer term Classes are offered during the daytime only. THERE ARE NO EVENING OR WEEKEND CLASSES LENGTH OF COURSE / PROGRAM SCHEDULE The program is accredited for twenty-five months The student typically attends classes on campus two days a week and clinical three days a week for the first year. The day will begin at 8:00 am 3:30 pm on campus & 8:00 am 4:30 pm clinical The curriculum is two full calendar years. (including Summers) Students MUST follow the curriculum designed by the program. THE TWO YEAR CURRICULUM Applicants must: 1. Be admitted to Malcolm X College. 2. Be at least 18 years of age. 3. Submit completed application form with a $30.00 application fee. (Application will not be processed without fee - cash or money order
5 only) [NO REFUNDS] {Money Order should be made out to Malcolm X College} 4. Submit two letters of recommendation either from a past teacher, employer, counselor or minister, etc., on organization letterhead paper. (MUST BE TYPED) 5. Provide a copy of college transcripts. Send a copy to Admission Office and a copy to Radiography Office. Grades must be at least "C" to be considered for eligibility in all prerequisite class and the cumulative Grade Point Average on all transcripts submitted to the Radiography Program Office must be 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. All foreign students will be required to submit transcripts from all secondary institutions attended with certified English translations and U.S. course equivalencies. All transcripts (in district and out of district) must be formally reviewed and evaluated by the registrar s office prior to application to the program. 6. Submit an essay letter to the Radiography program stating why you chose the field of Diagnostic Radiography and Malcolm X College. (MUST BE TYPED) (minimum of one page) 7. Be interviewed by members of the Program's selection committee before acceptance into the program. Interviews are scored and ranked. 8. Complete with a "C" or better the minimal competencies (prerequisites). Other general education courses listed on the curriculum sheet must also be completed with a grade of C of better. GPA ranking will be a factor in admission. Minimal of cumulative 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale to be considered for admission into the program. Note: All documents MUST BE attached to the application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Completed applications are ranked and accepted into the Radiography Program based on: 1. Grade Point Average 2.5/4.0 scale 2. Interview Points Interview score of 180 points will be considered first. How to increase chances of being accepted into the program: UPON ACCEPTANCE INTO THE PROGRAM, THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS ARE NEEDED: Provide a copy of current Health Insurance. Provide a copy of recent Medical Examination. CPR Certification Background and Drug Screening (students must pass drug screen)
6 All students admitted into the program must complete ALL COURSES, general education and radiography, prior to GRADUATION. SEE COLLEGE ADVISORS FOR ADVISEMENT Physical Requirements Needed for Successful Performance in the Clinical Area A person working in the field as a radiographer may be required to perform many extraneous and laborious tasks. Patient care in the clinical area requires excellent communication and language skills. Therefore all students must be able to: A. Stand on feet for approximately 8 hours B. Push and/or pull patients with weights that may exceed 200 lbs. C. Communicate in English well enough so that you can be understood by others, and others can understand you. D. Execute both hand and pedal dexterity E. Give directions and respond to patient requests F. Operate portable equipment G. Critique visually a film H. Exhibit good hearing ability & is able to exercise good body mechanics I. Lift and carry various accessory equipment The following prerequisite courses are required as minimal competencies. 9 THE RADIOGRAPHY PROGRAM Malcolm X College offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radiography. The program is accredited by the Joint Review on Education in Radiologic Technology and qualifies graduates to write the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification examination. Graduates are also eligible for State licensure upon successful completion of the program. The curriculum consists of both didactic and clinical components. Upon completion of the two years A.A.S. Degree Program (Diagnostic Radiography), students will be able to: A. Write the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification examination. B. Become licensed by the State of Illinois, Department of Nuclear Safety. C. Be employed as a staff technologist in clinics, hospitals, physicians' offices and industry. D. Continue their education to earn a baccalaureate or higher degree in a four-year college or university. E. Continue Radiography training beyond the normal requirements in the area of bio-medical engineering, radio-pharmacology, CT scanning, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Special Angiography Procedures, Interventional Procedures, and Equipment Application Specialist.
