Deplyment Overview (Installatin): Truck Tracker sftware is cmpiled as a 32-bit windws applicatin, but it will run n bth 32-bit and 64- bit perating systems. It is intended t run n Windws XP SP3, Windws Vista, Windws 7 and 8, Windws Server 2003 r 2008 and higher perating systems. The minimum RAM required is 512 MB fr SQL Server, but mre is recmmended. Als a 1.0 GHz r faster prcessr is needed. The sftware is required t use Micrsft SQL Server 2005, 2008, r 2008 R2 database backend, which is cmpiled as bth 32-bit and 64-bit windws services. Yu can run the prgram using yur wn installatin f SQL Server, r yu can chse t have the setup prgram dwnlad and install a new instance f SQL Server Express autmatically. Truck Tracker sftware installatin is designed t be as streamlined as pssible. If yu d nt have required cmpnents, such as.net Framewrk 3.5 r SQL Server native client driver, they will be dwnladed and installed autmatically fr yu. Truck Tracker sftware requires all users t share ne instance f the database. Custmers with multiple users will nrmally deply the netwrk server installatin nt ne cmputer, and then deply the client nly installatin t the ther wrkstatins. Custmers with a single user will typically deply as a standalne system n ne wrkstatin. Yu can share the prgram ver a lcal area netwrk using UNC path r a mapped drive. If yu are using a shrtcut t launch the prgram, make sure the Start In path is the same flder as the prgram. If yu are using the prgram ver the internet with a remte site r remte users, yu shuld use a remte desktp service such as Terminal Server r Citrix server. The installatin will prmpt yu t pint t yur SQL Server t install the database. Lcal settings will be stred per user accunt in raming strage flders. Installing Minr Updates: The sftware can autmatically (r manually) check the internet r a shared flder n yur netwrk fr minr updates. These settings can be changed under File->Settings->Aut-Updates. If an update is available the prgram will ask the user if they want t dwnlad and run the installatin file. If the prgram is nt already installed n the cmputer running the update, fr example when running frm a netwrk drive, the update will ntify the user and the installatin will be cancelled. If the prgram is installed n anther cmputer (server) then yu will need t lg int that cmputer with administratr rights t install the update. Once the server installatin is updated, each client installatin will need t be updated as sn as pssible. The database will still be accessible t lder client versins, but there will be warning abut pssible errrs when using the prgram. Otherwise create a tech supprt ticket Uninstalling the sftware: Always make a full database backup file befre uninstallatin and stre it in a safe place. Using the installatin file (recmmended) Run the riginal installatin file When prmpted, chse Remve If asked t uninstall the SQL Server instance assciated with this prgram, chse Yes After the SQL Server is uninstalled, the prgram and services will be uninstalled Once the uninstallatin is cmplete, yu shuld delete the SQL data files flder Using Cntrl Panel Find the Truck Tracker prgram in the list and chse Uninstall. When prmpted, chse Remve and cmplete the uninstall wizard
Once the uninstallatin is cmplete, yu need t uninstall the SQL Server instance assciated with the prgram. In the Prgrams list, find SQL Server 2005 r 2008 R2 and chse Uninstall. Find the instance named (TRUCKTRACKER) and uninstall the database engine Press Next until yu finish the uninstall wizard. Once the uninstallatin is cmplete, yu shuld delete the SQL data files flder Lgging int the Sftware If the user gets the SQL Server des nt exist r access denied message, then either: The full SQL Server name in incrrect <CmputerName>\TRUCKTRACKER, r <IPAddress>\TRUCKTRACKER 192.168.12.100\TRUCKTRACKER SERVER1\TRUCKTRACKER if yu are using a custm sql prt (any prt ther than default 1433), make sure t add a cmma and the prt number after the full sql server name SERVER2\TRUCKTRACKER,5432 SQL Server nt installed prperly, nt running, r netwrking nt enabled? Lgin t the SQL Server machine (r standalne machine) Open the SQL Cnfiguratin Manager under the Start Menu-All Prgrams- Micrsft SQL Server flder Check that the SQL instance is installed (TRUCKTRACKER) Verify SQL Server service is running and SQL Brwser service is running The SQL Brwser service is nly required when multiple instance f sql installed If netwrking, make sure the TCP/IP prtcl is enabled fr the SQL instance Windws Firewall r ther firewall sftware is blcking inbund cnnectins. First turn ff firewall cmpletely and try t cnnect again. If it wrks after turning the firewall ff, then the firewall is the prblem. If it still desn t wrk then the firewall is nt the prblem. If the firewall is the prblem, turn it back n, and add exceptins fr the SQL Server and Brwser prts. The default prts (unless manually changed) t allw incming traffic are TCP prt 1433, and UDP prt 1443. Make sure the scpe is wide enugh and all advanced settings are allwing traffic thrugh these 2 prts. Make sure the SQL Native Client library is installed n the client machine attempting t cnnect. If the client gets the Lgin failed fr user TruckTrackerUser message, then: Run the server installatin again and chse Repair. This will re-map the sql server lgins t the database users. This can happen when they have SA mdule, r when they mve t a new SQL Server withut running the built-in restre functin. Enter custm SQL authenticatin credentials n the lgin screen. The custm SQL lgin requires VIEW SERVER STATE permissin and full cntrl f TruckTracker database. If user can t get in because they lst the admin passwrd: First try Manager/pass, try likely ptential passwrds, and see if anther user has admin access.
Otherwise, they need t stp sql service and send (email, uplad) the TruckTracker.mdf and TruckTracker_lg.ldf files frm the SQL Server data flder. Using SQL management studi, attach database t a lcal instance f SQL 2005 r 2008 (match the custmer) T reset the passwrd fr a user accunt, pen SSECUser table and clear ut the passwrd clumn and enter 0 in passwrd size clumn. Nw yu can send the files back t the custmer, they cpy them int the SQL data directry, verwriting the existing files, and restart the SQL Service If the client gets an errr abut Active Directry, then: Fix the AD path (query) under the user security settings. Using the Trial Versin When the user enters the sftware fr the first time, they will see a Welcme t Trial Versin splash screen and the prgram will run in Trial mde with recrd and feature limits. T get rid f dem data yu must manually delete each recrd, register the full versin, r reinstall the prgram. Activating a Full License Lgin t sftware Chse Help menu, then select Register Prduct Drag and drp the license.txt file nt the screen, OR: Enter the license details (case-sensitive) and activate sftware If yu receive a failure message, either: Activatin cde expired Reactivate license and try again They entered smething wrng Try registering the same license in-huse if it wrks, email a screensht t the user There is a bug in the prgram Create a tech supprt ticket, infrm custmer, and escalate t next level Dwnlading the latest minr versin update If aut-updates are set t check at startup (default) then it will check autmatically when the lgin screen is launched Otherwise, if yu can lgin t the prgram, then yu can have the prgram autmatically check fr, dwnlad and install the latest update Under File Menu chse Settings, select Aut-Updates and press Check Nw Under Help Menu chse Check fr Updates The update links are cded int the prgram and are publicly available.
Cnnecting t SQL Server ver netwrk Is the SQL Server accessible by ther client cmputers ver the netwrk?
